I think your review is 100% spot on. Value is obviously subjective, but the convenience of the Aiden combined with the quality of cup makes this completely worth it to me. I’ve been really happy with mine, and don’t regret the purchase at all.
I have an Aiden, overall I'm happy with it and the review is spot on. Most of the time I'm making espresso, but 3 days a week I commute to an office with a long early morning commute and was tired of doing a pour over. I found the machine to produce just about the same quality with the benefit I can schedule and have my brew ready so I can walk out the door before I hit the road. I'd say the carafe for a small batch is for sure a heat sink issue if it's going to sit for a while. They even recommend brewing single serve into their very well insulated move mug, probably for that reason. Overall though I'm quite happy with the machine so far.
Aiden has been fantastic for me so far. Makes incredible coffee which is all that matters in the end to me. The app was finally updated today which is a relief and agreed on that point. I don’t brew single serve into the carafe so haven’t experienced that struggle
Had mine for a month and it has been a very positive experience - I drink lots of filtered water coffee and it replaced a precision brewer and a v60. The key benefit is something you referenced in your video - the quality of the coffee. “Pour overs” are better than what I (not an experienced barista) can get from a v60 For small batches - I just brew 350ml directly into an ember mug. (No problem with temp even when set as a scheduled brew) It’s great to be able to reduce variables to just grind size (and bean choice). Then I was able to get into the variables such as number of pours / temperature / duration etc thanks to many helpful recipes available online. Has really helped improve quality of cups. Large batches just seem to work very well with little tweaking.
My wife and I are on our second one. Both of the units will not connect to the internet. This 2nd one actually might be able to haven't tinkered with it enough to double check. It did pop up on my router for 1 sec and 1 sec only. First unit the lid kept pinching and getting stuck. It also developed an issue where it would say add more water when it was completely full. Was able to bypass that by clicking the button. Both units have seemed to cancel out my custom settings for "my brew" at random times. So I must check that the settings are saved periodically. That being said. It looks good and it makes great tasting coffee. Much better than our moccamaster. Overall happy with it assuming the app gets more functionality and customer support continues to help. Maybe Gen 2 will be better.
If you would, I'd be interested in your comment about the coffee from the Aiden being much better than the Moccamaster. I've been looking at both and since you've used both I'm curious about the differences, good and bad. Thank you.
Update, 2nd unit has now connected to the internet since an update was sent out. Main difference to us is a better tasting cup of coffee and more customization for your brews. I think the way the moccamaster disperses water is flawed and there are no actual settings you can adjust. It was nice at first but really loving the brews from the Aiden in comparison.
We got our pre-order last month. I like espresso-based drinks, but my wife is all about her filter coffees, and I pre-ordered for her birthday. After her first few sips, I asked if it was better than the pour-overs I’d make for her. “*Oh* yeah.” 😅 Is it better than our local cafe? Closer call, but she actually prefers the Aiden using the same beans. She’s super happy with it, and I can’t even imagine balking at the price compared to my espresso machine or even just the ridiculously priced accessories. Honestly, I don’t know what it costs to bring something like this to market, but I’m surprised it’s not priced higher.
Thanks for the review Spro! Didn’t realize I could use an Orea or other small brewer inside the batch basket. Did you try any others and like the results?
Same question! Tomorrow I am testing this with my Stagg X that does fit. Since I have bigger, 2-cup cone=shaped brewers, the don’t fit inside my bigger Aiden basket. I wonder if they may fit if I don’t insert any basket, but it's unlikely the Aiden will brew without one.
Fellow (if you're reading): you had me until the flimsy plastic, finicky clickwheel, and non-functional app were revealed! I don't think I'd mind the issue with the cold carafe (I'd swish some hot tap water around in it to warm it up before starting the brew). Spro: thanks for yet another fantastic review! This one seems quite frustrating because they've laid all the groundwork for it to be an excellent premium brewer but they haven't done the final polish to make it into a truly premium product
App has just been updated and allows you to modify and make profiles now, although controlling the aiden is still not complete so you cant start a brew from the app. But the main issue of making profiles and sharing them is now a lot easier with the app.
I've been brewing on the Aiden since early September. I decided to purchase one to save time making coffee in my morning routine and so I have an easy way to brew large batches of coffee when desired or when family/friends are over. So far I really have been enjoying the coffee from it. I've noticed personally that the batch brews tend to taste better than the single serve brews. I've also been grinding courser since Aiden tends to have higher extraction, which has helped for clean and sweet brews with little to no astringency/bitterness. My only concerns tend to be the same as yours regarding longevity. There is a lot of plastic and sometimes i've experienced the user menu lag or freeze up. I also made a mistake of forgetting the lid of my carafe once which almost flooded my brewer, so there's still potential to make a mistake, even with the guided assistance. The extended warranty does ease my mind though and considering the price I got it for, if it lasts three years it's still worth it in my mind.
I replaced my Moccamaster Cup one with the Aiden and an Ember mug. I find I get better tasting brews out of the Aiden using the presets. I now have been experimenting with different roasts and have never been happier.
Interesting... I have the same moccamaster and really like it. I'm nervous that something like the Aiden would be prone to failing due to all the electronics where as the moccamaster doesn't have any of that
I want it. But I'm happy to wait for a version 2, their updates usually improve on the product significantly. If this is the baseline, I can't wait to see how they improve the device.
I'd love to see your comparison with the xBloom Studio. I have an xBloom (well, I'm currently trying to sell it...) but I think they're an interesting pairing.
Great review!! Can u please answer 1 question: Does Aiden coffee taste significantly better than a Moccamaster? MM is great but usually tastes like a good drip coffee - good but hardly great (no matter what I attempt to tweak with the variables mostly grind size). It seems Aiden tastes more like pour over - is this true? taste is my deciding factor with deciding an Aiden purchase. Thank u
The price is only a bit of a turnoff because without the app being functional, Fellow has essentially released a BETA product. All of the lead up to its release included all of this talk about an app where you could upload and share custom recipes and such. And a few months after its release…the app basically doesn’t exist. Wait for Gen 2. Ode Gen 1 wasn’t great either.
While I'm not ready to get the Aiden quite yet (I'm often a "wait-for-V2" kinda guy) I see a real benefit of going all-in on the Fellow ecosystem here. By getting an Aiden, Ode, and subscribing to Fellows bean subscription, Id appreciate being able to utilize the custom brew profiles made by people who know more about coffee than I do, to be able to try lots of different kinds of coffees while consistently get the most out of them without all the trial and error
Like every Fellow product, just wait for V2 so they work out all the issues first. I have a Fellow Ode G2 that I use daily and really don't like it - more or less put up with it. I highly doubt the Aiden (even V2) would be any different. I have a moccamaster and it's not perfect by a longshot, but I don't want 8M bells and whistles that can get in the way of me getting my cup in the morning. I'm in IT and when I saw this come out I just shook my head.
You reviewed both the Sculptor 064s and the df64v. I´m looking at one of those two to supplement my Niche Zero. Price wise they´re the same. I plan to put other burrs in and want to use them both for filter and espresso. My concerns come mostly down to burr-alignment and the longevity. For the df now in there 2nd gen and with EU-voltage supply, I heard stalling isn´t an issue. But alignment could be better on the 064s, right? I would use them mostly for light to medium roast, as I said to supplement the Niche. Would be nice to hear your or someone else´s experiences with one or best both of them. Ty!
get the df64v. The sculptor has bean retention issues. I had a 078 and ever 2-3 brews, one bean/fragment got stuck somewhere in the auger/grind chamber, and it was very difficult to knock down, resulting in varying retention. You are gonna regret getting the sculptor and no reviewers mention this as they don't use it long enough (I think maybe Hoffmann did)
The Aiden in Sweden just now costs about 450 USD. It's an expensive device even by Swedish standards and it doesn't even come with a grinder plus, the way it's built makes it very hard to justify that purchase. I would've happily paid for this if it included a grinder.
the carafe was one of my reason for getting this, vs glass ones. let down that it doesn't retain heat as much as my old Braun coffee maker steel carafe. otherwise, its been great
The value proposition for the cost is not that great for me. I don't mind doing the pourover itself and I can also get a drip assist or a hoop/pulsar brewer if I want more consistency/automation. I also only make 1 coffee at a time. I think if I did batch brews, then I would buy the aiden.
Do you actually use third wave minerals? I have a CPAP that requires distilled water and I hate buying jugs for it all the time. If I did it for my coffee and espresso too the gallons I'd have to buy would be insane. Seems like making my own distilled water isn't really efficient either and I'm not sure how to make it convenient enough to actually do. Would love to do it but can't figure out the logistics.
I do. And what an improvement! But it depends on your local water. I’d seen various coffee ‘Tubers talk about water and ignored it as them being a little snobby. Then I visited family in another city, where they happen to have an outstanding roaster. Bought some excellent coffee and loved brewing it. Until I got home. The coffee was very flat. I whined (almost literally) about it to my wife, who noted that the water at home is super (descale your showerheads bi-annually or they seize up) hard vs where we visited. Immediately started using distilled water without additives and noticed an immediate improvement, then tried TTW and noticed more. Demineralized/reverse osmosis water will work just as well. Fortunately, where I live, demineralized water is available in 18 litre (water cooler sized) jugs and both the large jugs and 5 gallon TTW sachets are half price (per litre) vs 4 litre jugs and gallon sized sachets. Now, if you happen to live somewhere with excellent (or even good) brewing water, straight out of the tap, it would be a total waste of money. But since my tap water is crap for brewing, and the coffee I buy STARTS at $80CAD per kilo, not treating my water would be a waste of the money I spent on the coffee.
I started making my own distilled water with a small distiller, and most recently purchased 2 5 gallons of distilled water delivered, because its humidifier season , pretty cheap
I was thinking about it, but issues with the machine and it not detecting water even though the water tank is full. I'm not sure if this is a common or rare thing, but its enough to make me hesitate on purchasing. Primarily, this would be used as my work day morning coffee. It would be useless to me if it didn't brew before i got up. No reviewer has mentioned this so maybe it takes longer to occur!?
i love the styling of fellow products, but they had to replace 3 ekgs before we got one that worked for more than a few months, all with different fail points. the current one (black) has a finish that's now flaking off. the thing has basically been babied since we're afraid of another failure...gets used 2x/day and wiped down/hand washed. disappointing to the point that we'll probably steer clear even if we like the look and feature set
Other reviews have essentially agreed on one thing: makes very good small batch pour over and is no better than any other high-end batch brewer for batch brewing.
Can’t get a good pour over taste with the Fellow Aiden and the Fellow Opus grinder. Tried everything, and the taste is always off. Going back to ceramic cone.
@@alinilisil9614 I got these from rafaceramics.com They only do periodic drops of ceramics when they have enough stock so I’d recommend joining their email list if you want to get notified when they are up for sale again.
10:29 One man's time synch is another man's time suck. That huge sucking sound emanating from my coffee bar is time being sucked away from me with the ritualist performance of coffee brewing. It's great on the weekend but not so great during a work week.
I don't drink filter coffee, ever, and living in Spain I know very, very few people who are not expats or coffee nerds that drink it. I have a v60 for rare occasions where a friend who does want filter coffee comes over. That said, I enjoy your videos so I'm here waiting for the next one! Thanks for the upload and enjoy your Holiday next week!
Thanks for the review. I'm not in the market for an auto-brewer, but I think I'd be more interested in the xBloom. Congrats on whatever TH-cam shiny object you have in the back! 😉
@@alexlazaridisf.7276 when it comes to espresso I tend to agree, at least to a point. But I like start a filter coffee at hot, and taste it in layers as it cools, and I don’t think I’m alone on that.
We’ve had to have two units sent to us after the water fill tank error. The fact that the two units failed into the same way means there water pump sucks for this thing. Until they fix it and acknowledge that they made a rushed and faulty product. Don’t buy this. No mater how good of coffee it makes, you will be spending all your time sending warranty claims back and fourth.
Dear Imperial system lover, would you mind adding some text over the videos to show how much the very valuable Fahrenheit translate to the lower-level world-wide used Celcius system? Love ya

I still convert grams to ounces in my head when ordering things, lol.
I think this is very much a v1 product, they've kept costs down using the same screen and dial from the kettle. A more fleshed out v2 or a premium version will likely get a purchase from me as it takes out my flaws of inconsistency when brewing. At the very least a functioning app should have been ready for launch
It seems crazy there's no hot plate, even just to warm the carafe. i think we all get that constantly heating coffee is bad, but it seems like a huge miss for scheduled brews.
Purchased this recently and returned it for the heat loss on coffee alone. No hot plate and a dodgy kettle especially for scheduled brews was a big downside. Fellow's suggestion was to "preheat the kettle" which is a bit crazy and unrealistic most of the time. Let's see how v2 is.
I am perfectly content with all-manual Hario switch - why overcomplicate things and ingest plastic? But I also brew my espresso in all-manual Flair 58. I would not give up the pleasure of ingesting fresh aroma while I am slowly brewing a cup of coffee. It is like a meditation - so why take this away? I don't need another robot in my life !
@@timecodebreaksseriously? The handle of my Kakita is also made of plastic. These are trace amounts as compared to any brewer entirely made of plastic.
@@makspyat If "ingesting plastic" is an issue for you, trace amounts are trace amounts. It seems like a weird line to draw that some trace amounts are okay and some are not. That's why I asked.
What on earth is really a "high-end" brewer? What im quite sure of, is that the Fellow brand is NOT. They may have an actual design line, and that beats all other brands. But should it cost three times more than all other gear?
Based on your review and others, Aiden is flimsy and plasticky yet makes good coffee with plenty of brew options for fine tuning. That said, I'll pass until Fellow improves the build quality.

Cheap chemical laden plastic everywhere !!! Sorry, this isn't healthy. Cancer is on the rise, not on the decline, and when are consumers going to question the consumption of plastics in their bodies. Don't forget too the potential dangers silicone tubing carrying hot water into the brew head. Fellow is an unqualified success, which makes the Aiden all the more disappointing considering the amount of R&D money that went into making this machine. At $365, I highly doubt the Aiden brews coffee better than a $30 Proctor Silex.

Thank you my friend. ☕️
Thanks for the info, as always!
What’s that cup you’re using in the video?
I am wondering the same
Does anyone know what the drippy blue cup that he uses is?
@@alinilisil9614 I got these from rafaceramics.com They only do periodic drops of ceramics when they have enough stock so I’d recommend joining their email list if you want to get notified when they are up for sale again.
Good info in the review but the visuals are too dark. I still don’t really know what this machine really looks like!
If I had the counter space, I would order it.
The omission of a hot plate is super aggravating. I’m half way to sending it back and getting a Moccamaster simply because of the thermal instability.
please add a metric (& celsius) units in your review for the rest of the world
And they've released the new app version
Thanks for the review. I'm not in the market for an auto-brewer, but I think I'd be more interested in the xBloom.
Congrats on whatever TH-cam shiny object you have in the back! 😉
Love the coffee, fully agree about the build quality, very disappointing.
If apple made coffee gear😂
Robbing it of its heat is good. Cooling down leads to more flavour.
Love ya
He does have it listed in the video.
Set Point 210F/98.9C
Aiden Peak 201.4F/94.1C
Kettle Peak 207.9F/97.7C
I suppose he missed it with the in cup temperature but...
146.7F/63.72
124.7F/51.5C
As an American living in Europe (on and off with a combined total of 14 years) I still can't visualize Celsius, Kilograms or Kilometers so I feel your pain. I still convert grams to ounces in my head when ordering things, lol.
Imperial measurements…
SO 19th century!😮

Why would you want to ruin good coffee with a heat plate?
Nothing is build to last nowdays....
I don't need another robot in my life !
isn't the plunger piece at the bottom of the glass hario switch that the coffee runs through also plastic?
@@timecodebreaksseriously? The handle of my Kakita is also made of plastic.
These are trace amounts as compared to any brewer entirely made of plastic.
@@makspyat If "ingesting plastic" is an issue for you, trace amounts are trace amounts. It seems like a weird line to draw that some trace amounts are okay and some are not. That's why I asked.
What on earth is really a "high-end" brewer? What im quite sure of, is that the Fellow brand is NOT. They may have an actual design line, and that beats all other brands. But should it cost three times more than all other gear?
Please don't say 'on accident ' unless you say 'by purpose ' too. My ears!!! My ears!!!
Just got the Aiden Wednesday. So far I like it.
Hard pass
