    This is Jupiter from Holst's The Planets Suite.

    I think the whole of Holst's The Planets Suite amazing, Mars and Jupiter especially. It was integral in the founding of modern orchestral pieces like the soundtrack of Star Wars and its ever-expanding list of sequels and TV shows.
    The poem's author John Maghee was a soldier in the Canadian Army, who died in a training exercise in December 1941, weeks after Pearl Harbor. A fine poem used many times, especially by Ronald Reagan after the Challenger Disaster.

    I think the music is "Jupiter"--but that is all I remember.

      @@arejayseeottawa thank you. 😊. I remember it being mentioned elsewhere and only remembered the title.

      The melody ALWAYS reminds me of that rugby song "World in Union", though Jupiter (or Thaxted) almost always is in 3/4. World in Union is in 4/4.

    Does anyone have the KABC sign-ons? Does anyone remember when they would have instrumental music playing over the color bars before returning to the air?

    • @wmbrown6
      @wmbrown6 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They alternated between color bars and the 1963 B&W test pattern with the 'abc' circle logo at center, from what I recall (and this, from a New York boy).

      @@wmbrown6 I remember around this time, when the carrier came back on, the test-pattern with the abc logo was the first thing we saw and Len Beardsley’s voiceover was over it before the 1K tone, then the color bars followed after with Beardsley’s voice over then instrumental music

    I find it weird how We Americans share a British Patriotic Song, Even Our National Anthem isn't even American. Very strange.

    • @jasonnstegall
      @jasonnstegall ปีที่แล้ว

      The UK and the USA make up the 7th (and final) Biblical World Power. (Daniel ch. 7 and Revelation ch. 17, among others). That, in part, is why both official and unofficial National Anthems share similar trademarks.

      @@jasonnstegall Funnily enough, Monty Python's theme was from John Phillip Sousa's Liberty Bell.
