One tip - use normalization because all video cuts are with different volume. You missed some quite good G5s. Also this note vs note comparison doesn't show at all their real singing skills which is more important than just the quality of several notes. Their dynamics, transition, connected registers, musicianship and so on. Both are great singers. SoHyang is more skillful and she can do more impressive vocal acrobatics, feasts with her voice and more touching ones as well. Also dynamics from very soft and quiet moments to very powerful ones is much more present in SoHyang singing. She constantly use very big voice dynamics - at one moment is so soft, quiet and soothing and in the next moment she is up there belting with full power and again down very soft and again up there. This is a very impressive and captivating way of singing. It's also very hard. Very few singers pay so much attention to the dynamics and their voices must allow such huge difference and control. Many voices lacks capability to produce very quiet and soft sounds because under a certain power it turns just into a whisper. Every voice is limited to certain point. SoHyang voice is capable of such huge dynamics and she use it non stop in almost all her songs. Quite impressive. Their head voices are developed very differently and this is very important register. Son Seung Yeon needs a lot of work here which also can improve her vocal range. Son Seung Yeon is limited because of that and she avoids songs which heavily rely on head voice. They both are amazing but generally SoHyang is better vocalist without a doubt.

It's clear to me that Sohyang's control of the dynamics and her heavenly head voice give her an edge. Meanwhile the power and fierceness of SSY's tone sure sets her apart. It's particularly noticeable for notes below F5 to me. Enjoyed the compilation to listen to these notes side by side since I am not good enough to isolate them in their performances. Music is not really about competition but fun to compare.
That's just your opinion and others will have theirs too, some more valid than others. But what's undeniable is this, just take note of their AGE GAP. Sonnet Son has time on her side to be where Kim is today. Cheers.
Well written Nikalsson ! I agree on all points, and will add that SoHyang also is vocal agility if that is the right words. Listen to Faith and you will hear what I mean. Fluent runs without missing a note. And not necessarily up to the high notes. Actually they are not the most pleasing to my ears. Maybe that is what you call vocal acrobatics? Could be the same.
I love Son Seung Yon, I just love her beautiful belts and powerful voice. This might just be a personal preference but I just prefer a stronger sounding voice. She gave me chills in Winter Story, since then, she’s been my fave. I’m not going to lie So Hyang has a very powerful voice, she’s truly amazing.

Yeah I agree, I found that comparison of Sohyangs performances on KOMS and Son seung-yeons performances, I found that Sohyangs were just more profound and iconic. But son seung on immortal songs also has some incredible performances. They’re both some of the best singers there are right now.
Both of them are very good and shine in their own way. But technical wise, So Hyang is superior! Her support, resonance, dynamics, breath control and emotion are unbeatable. Every note sung by her is just effortless as if it naturally flows out..
I love both of them. They are great singers who have their own auras. But when some comments here saying SSY sounds like straining to hit high notes, I guess she sounds clearer and smoother in tones compared to SH. Indeed SH can reach higher notes, but I think SSY has more beautiful tones. Don't get me wrong, I love them both. In the last fifty years or so ,SoHyang is in my top 5. There is no order all 5 are generational singers! She might be the best at making us feel the song and It doesn’t matter if it’s in a language you understand, you feel what she sings! Also her arrangements are so, so Amazing! SoHyang all the way! Laura Fabian is very close in the way she delivers the emotion of the song, next would be Morrisette Amon! All Super Stars!
