One thing that I've noticed is that if you're willing to work with the mechanics and not try to do meta hack and slash, you run into a lot less of the physics and balancing bugs.
I saw a few video about real medieval sword fighting et parry technic, and I'm amazed that you succeed to recreate them in this video game, looking good ! I can wait to see you post more about that game, I could watch you fight for hours, keep it up lad !

I have always found stabbing with the alt key really ineffective, Like I'll stab and armoured portion of the opponent, and the sword will just slide along rather than penetrate. Even stabs when Half-Swording don't feel too effective either. I still love the game, and can't wait till it releases fully.
It's kind of awesome that the game is intuitive enough that I've already learned a lot of these lessons. Since understanding how passive parrying works, I've developed a lot in terms of actually fighting in this game instead of just flailing around. Also I'd definitely like more info on polearms. It's what I'm weakest with by far.
If you have the cutting edge against the neck with a polearm let go of the attack button and rapidly move your mouse away and to the right, it will cut their throat, this is easier for polearms to do as well
okay, so I had asked on a short how you got such clean lines in your attacks, my issue was leaving the passive parry area to wind up my attacks causing all sorts of strange behavior. staying in that box makes everything so much cleaner. thank you :)
I'd love to see how this HEMA-like play stacks up against other styles in PvP (if it ever comes), it has a high skill ceiling. For me, I don't lose often (at any tier but fists) using a hit and run style. Lots of passing swipes while feathering sprint, big circular swings that fade away, attacks on the feet, and only closing to stab or use half-sword to club (or both using the half-sword backhand as a stab). My goal is to stay out of the kill zone in front of them, maintain distance, and swing wide while feathering the sprint but _never_ square up.
The problem is the playstyle wouldn't net anything in PvP and be more of a hindrance. I would be totally content with more advanced AI. Currently, you can pretty much walk all over the NPCs with half decent footwork and an understand of parries. Except for the odd hit to your legs because the AI loses its balance mid swing.
That’s what I love and hate about the game. When you first start the controls are jenky and the more you play and learn and practice you get a surprising amount of control. Just wish I could rebind the alt stab button but I’m sure I will be able to when the game actually comes out/playtest is updated
I always play as the unarmored townfolks, cause one swing can kill in that scenario. And I feel that out of all the AI, the longsword AI is one of the most aggresive and lethal. No matter how well I try to block and dodge, they alway nick and slice at my arms or legs and then rush in for the kill, its quite disturbing honestly XD Not even using a shield helps
@@antonintresl1761 The problem with the longsword AI is that it seems like they lose their balance when swinging, which causes them to fall forward slightly during swings, which then hit your legs. That and their weird overhead to underhand combos. The AI just need a bit of work after self balancing is tweaked.
@@OVRDTH Pommel to the noggin knocks out heavy armor pretty good. I tend to let them get the run up for momentum and I just take a few steps forward left and rotate right and their movement into my pommel does the rest. Grappling from halfsword in a pinch is also really effective if you have your measure rushed, pommel behind their head, rotate and step right and keep twisting and you'll wrench them off their feet.

I mean, rarely should a stab penetrate any armor. Ideally stabs should be aimed for armor gaps.
With the exception of some polearms.
This is super interesting. It reminds me a lot of Exanima and that's one of my all time favorite games. I'll definitely be keeping up on this

clicking left mouse twice will also launch a stab attack similar to using ALT but you don't need to thrust your mouse upwards
Yeah, no one really uses it and overall offers less control.

you can also stab from half sword by right clicking then using your left click like normal and pressing alt!

True! Despite it being the name of the game, I don't use the alternative grips much considering I mostly play in and around tier 5.
