  • Let us look at Tanzania's Dar es Salaam bus rapid transit which is a bus rapid transit system that began operations on 10 May 2016 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Dar Es Salaam transit system consists of 6 phases and the construction of the first phase began in April 2012 by the Austrian construction company Strabag International GmbH. Construction of the first phase was completed in December 2015 at a total cost of €134 million funded by the African Development Bank, World Bank and the Government of Tanzania

      Hey Jessen, relax!!!
      Ha ha ha haaaaaa.
Be optimistic. I'm speaking from TZ. You actually have that political will. You are setting an example in other EA countries in infrastructural development. Your high level of democracy makes competing opinions loudly audible and this is highly constructive in any development process. It shouldn't in any way be interpreted as 'lack of political will'.
Remember in the sector of academics we (in TZ) entered into the so called "competence based syllabus system" about ten years before you. In the meantime you were watching and debating vigorously amongst yourselves, lastly when you made up your mind, you became much more competent such that we are now learning from you!
Let's keep the spirit of learning from each other and accelerate our move towards the federation. We are on the right track and certainly we will soon be there!

Dar es Salaam, it is the new Bogota, the BRT is a short to medium term solution but never a long term solution, there should also be an elevated or underground metro because sooner or later the brt will collapse. What a pity that the Government of Tanzania changes the subway project proposed by the Indians for the BRT, but remember that cheap is expensive, look at Jakarta that ate the story of building BRT lines and ended up collapsing and had to build a subway

    • @ThisIsAfrica

      No pals!!
I beg to differ. You all sound too negative in your thoughts. You long for perfection and that not achievable anywhere in the world.
I'm from TZ and I always see Kenya in a positive attitude. Multitudes of infrastructural development there! You have the metro trains, the express way (actually the only one in Africa), and now BRT is almost complete.
Be optimistic. Yes we have issues in EA, real issues so to speak! Corruption, ufisadi, wizi, you name it. But I think we are working on that.
I see positive development everywhere in EA. Truly everywhere! I see construction of modern airport in Burundi, I see the aviation industry taking new shape in Uganda, I see SGR projects in kenya and TZ and plans for their extension in Rwanda and Burundi. I see modernisation of see ports everywhere on the east African coast: Zanzibar, Mombasa, Lamu, Tanga, Dar and Mtwara. I see DRC joining us! I see signs of political stabilization in South Sudan. Too many of them to list them all here!
On East Africa, towards one African! 💪

      Hapana Ali,
Be fair to your own self! There are many good things that we (your neighbors) are learning from you.
