  • Dar es Salaam bus rapid transit is a bus rapid transit system that began operations on 10 May 2016 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The transit system consists of 6 phases and the construction of the first phase began in April 2012 by the Austrian construction company Strabag International GmbH. Construction of the first phase was completed in December 2015 at a total cost of €134 million funded by the African Development Bank, World Bank and the Government of Tanzania. The first phase of the project has a total length of 21.1 kilometers with dedicated bus lanes on three trunk routes with a total of 29 stations. The entire system is operated by The Usafiri salama Dar es Salaam Rapid Transit (UDA-RT) under the surveillance of the Surface and Marine Transport regulatory authority (Sumatra).Currently, the route is serviced by a fleet of 140 Chinese built Golden Dragon buses, providing express and local service for 18 hours daily from 05:00am to 11:00pm.

Keep up the Good work African Tigress!! I'm Nigerian 🇳🇬 and This video brings sweet memories to me! I've been to this same Stations. I really Enjoyed my visit here! The country has got a lot of differences to Nigeria where I come from. The power supply there is 24 hours as long as you've got your prepaid Units loaded LOL...Food is cheap and nice and the People here are always willing to talk or assist You with Whatever You need to do. I stayed at a hotel close to the stations In Mzimbazi.....Very busy place to live in!! I'll be In Kariakoo Hopefully For the Easter holidays this 2022! Loved visiting Sinza, Kunduchi Beach, Mzimbazi, and many other nice places I had the opportunity to see! Forgot to add that Tanzanian women are Really pretty!! There are nice pubs such as Elements, etc....It's a lovely place to visit for anyone who wants to experience East Africa in a new Dimension. I'm however angry I never went to see the Mount Kilimanjaro I've always read about as a Kid in textbooks while growing up but I guess il do that this coming Easter when I visit again! Karibu 🇹🇿🇹🇿

We had these busses long time ago, thousands of them, all over the city Of Dar Es Salaam, since independency day at the time of the Father of the nation “Teacher, Julius Kambarage Nyerere’s (Kingdom)”, But after he left the sit for others, everything went crumbling down! That time it was called “UDA” means “Usafiri Dar Es Salaam”! After Nyerere left, it Became bankrupt, after being badly managed by corruption and destroyed! Sad story really 😔!
But fortunately it was revived again to this upgraded system called “BRT” means “Bus Rapid Transportation” under His Majesty “Dr John Joseph Pombe Magufuli”
So, it was there before, it disappeared, and then, thankfully it came back again 😅🙏🏽🇹🇿

I do not think "overtake" is the right word. JPM did not implement BRT to compete with Kenya or any other country. He did it coz of the challenges of movement in DAR and TZ. He is responding to the needs of the pipo. In terms of caring for the pipo JPM indeed is ahead and invests in the masses. Kenya on the other hand is led by kleptocrats who think only of themselves and close friends.

Here in Trinidad and Tobago we have a very similar means of Transport, its called the *Priority Bus Route* its like an alternative to a Train system and it is so convenient. There are buses and a form of smaller bus we call a "Maxi Taxi" or just "Maxi" and they each have one of 6 (red, green, yellow, blue, black or brown) painted on them. Each colour represents a different destination so that's how you know where its final stopping point/station is. Its quite coincidental that we both have something like this and our flags are of such similar designs 🤣 and both our countries' names begin with a "T"! Lol, Go on Tanzania!!!! Love from T&T.
