To me it`s still one of the best mics I still use. I`m going to purchase another one. I make sport videos and love this mic even after 10 years. The battery last me very very long.
I'll really agree to disagree. Obviously you have some new brand almost nicer and cheaper. However, as a user that has this mic for 20year (the first version), and as a videomic mini owner, I will say the mini seems to offer a better sound straight of the bat, however, I have more information recorded with the Videomic Rycote which allows me better adjustment, and the field recorded is more directional. I keep using it as a B-Mic without shame. Also the battery last very very long, I recommend USB charge 9v battery. That being said, the announced price is what's clearly outdated. for a new filmmaker budget I would recommend the Boya for directional or Ulanzi for lapel.
Here's something that's often overlooked. Powered vs camera-powered, most cameras have terrible preamps so cranking up the gain with a non powered rode mic (go, video micro, etc) you'll introduce a lot of hiss/noise. Setting the powered VideoMic to a gain of 0 and turning down the gain on camera is a huge benefit. So with that being said, I think the NTG or Video Pro is probably the only "upgrade" from this in Rodes current lineup
Nice to find some recentish video about this. Considering buying it used after spotting it for quarter of the price talked in this video. How do you think it compares to newer mics around the 20-40€ price point?
You're hugely mistaken if you claim that Videomic Go sounds better than Videomic. At least version 1 of Videomic Go is totally unusable for me. No bass and equivalent Noise of *34* dBA SPL.
can u make a low price , medium price, high price series with monitors, headsets, microphones? cause i love ur explanations and i wonder what u think about products with high or low price
I recently purchased this mic brand new for $42. I didn't know it was a 10 year old mic. This microphone will arrive at my house in a few days. This mic I shouldn't bought in 2023, but I'm going to stick with it for a while. Thanks your explanations.

You can have two rechargable 9V batteries like I have. Although I use them for different things
what's your mic setup though?

I picked up a Rode Videomic today for $20. For that price, even if it IS outdated...I'll get some value out of it.
❤❤❤

what microphone are you using in this video (not the rode) for your recording? sound is really good :)
I'm using the Samson CO2. A fantastic budget pencil microphone. There's a review on my channel about it if you're interested.
This doesn’t seem like a fair video. You’re mounting it 2 1/2 feet away, no shotgun mic is going to sound good from that distance.
Yeah the hiss/noise is awful with this mic. People deserve better.
Thank you:) I hate this mic and I needed to hear someone elses opinion i order to purchase a much better mic.
go it today for 13$, it only misses the battery door.
It's really infuriating to watch a video shitting on a product and not recommending alternatives.
