Well said, Matt! It's not just your channel - it's endemic on YT and other social media - the amount of negativity is astounding. Just know that there are many more of us that support you and appreciate what you do!
If someone has shortcomings it's acceptable to point them out. If someone criticises Jeremy Corbyn, and someone else criticises David Cameron, who's making a valid comment, and who's indulging in negativity and hate speech?
@@Three-Chord-Trick Completely acceptable to point out someone's 'shortcomings'. What's not acceptable is to do it in a degrading and upsetting manner for the pleasure of that person.
Excellent as always please keep up the great work👍👍. I remember the DM4 from the late 70’s but at the time I actually preferred it’s smaller brother the DM5. I did however pick up a pair of DM4’s around ten years back and they grew on me, so much in fact I had the cabinets pro painted in gloss black and renewed the grill cloth. Absolutely wonderful, but due to having just too much stuff I sold on, regretted it since!
Well Matt, I just wanted to say I really enjoy your videos, I've learnt a lot from them and you even inspired me to buy my own measurement mic to muck around with my own speakers. Ignore the haters, they're probably just jelous anyway. I think you do fantastic work. Great work on the DM4's, looking forward to part 2 on the Rogers LS3/5a's
It's a funny thing with the Coles tweeters. It was quite common to have open circuit coils on brand new units. At first, I thought it may be amplifiers oscillating that could burn them out, but they never had any sign of burning. We always put an ohm meter across them prior to selling them. Funny the things you remember from all those years ago. Watching your channel is like a flash back in time. I've sold most of these speakers in my shop.
Have the DM4 and DM2 , your channel has helped and inspire me to fix many speakers worth saving , there is an endemic of negativity every where it seems , Now more than ever a good sound system can offer a magical retreat from the onslaught , Just want to say thanks .
I absolutely love watching these videos, helps me with my understanding, and personally learnt loads, and I hope to get myself a few projects in the future. All I hope is that the couple of twats do not put you off as I personally I would really miss not having the channel it's bloody great, thank you Matt.
I really appreciate the effort you put into making these videos, learn a lot and enjoy your friendly, direct style. I'm sure they must help with developing your market too....at least I hope so. Cheers Matt.
Your channel and the information you provide are absolutely fantastic. I really appreciate you responding to my comments about the Celestion Ditton 25's and I got them done in the end, took 20 minutes - ha. I know where you're coming from though. I work mainly with cassette machines and also R2R. My colleague, who does R2R full time (Iain Betson of Reel Resilience UK), has tons of comments when it comes to certain brands of machines, particularly the Revox brand. The "audiophile" community are a really gatekeeping bunch sometimes and being quite young in all of this, can be quite intimidating! but I don't let it bother me. It's even funnier when the kind of people commenting on these issues are normally mid-aged men going deaf. I had the B&W DM4's for a couple of years. My first vintage speakers you could say. I restored mine to a decent degree but the drivers you added look fantastic. I just found that the DM4's lacked soundstage, as many vintage speakers probably do. My Dittons really fill up the room and everyone that listens to them say they are fantastic. If I ever get a chance to grab a pair of 66's in the future I'll make the swap!
Well if it’s any consolation, I just spat my tea laughing at your rant! I’m in awe of all the people making helpful videos across the YT universe, it’s one of the first places I turn whatever new thing I’m trying to sort out. A colleague and I were supposed to launch our channel a couple of years ago, but each of us moved home a few times so we’re only just getting round to it now, but we’re DREADING the comments we’re bound to get. It really is a tiny percentage of toxic douchebags, but they sour what is otherwise such an amazing resource.
Quick question, I have the DM2's early version with the open port at the bottom. I'm making a new baffle. Do you think it would make a difference if I copied the later version with the better looking baffle cut out? Thanks
I recently purchased a pair of these...I love this speaker and want the best from it...what fuse should i buy to replace these fuses...do you have a link?...also do i need a gasket between bass driver and the wooden cabinet...the foam has disintegrated...I don't hear anything from the super tweeter(top driver)I have a multimeter but how do i use it to check if the super tweeter is working? i'm a newbie with multi meter...I'll buy a new super tweeter if i know mine is bad?
Are they 4 ohm woofers? What is interesting with these speakers is they measured pretty flat but do not use any resistors. So driver sensitivity must be very well matched. The DM4s sound quite lean and a tad bright by BBC inspired standards.Drier and more neutral perhaps.Best with a warm sounding amplifier. Also not really valve amp friendly -possibly due the the 4 ohm load.
Thanks for the videos, I find them quite informative and interesting as I have quite the vintage speaker collection. Question...where did you either acquire or make the large green geometric mat with the angle indicators? Looks very useful for testing speakers off axis. Thanks.
Thanks for watching. The green mat came from ebay. The one in the video is part of my router bench. I also have a massive A0 sized one I use on my work bench. There a craft cutting mat so very durable and have useful measurements set out on them

hey Matt...I read others using Dot 4 brake fluid so I was thinking of using on my Spendor S100 rubber surrounds to the drivers...remove my drivers and apply a coat to both sides and the let sit for an hour and wipe off...what do you think?...Is it better than a rubber restoration fluid...I of course don't want the glue from the cones to seperate...so I would be very careful...❓

It seems that some people take what should be a hobby or a profession and make it a part of their internal mental world. Unfortunately some of these individuals have problems and that spills out into this arena. The anonymity afforded by social media allow them to let loose their destructive and angry emotions on the ‘safe’ targets of others in the same anonymous space, or in this case poor Matt.
