I’m excited for this Mulan live-action film mostly because it doesn’t look like a shot for shot remake of the animated film like The Lion King was. We might actually get a new cinematic experience with this retelling.

Yeah she's pretty but bad acting skills. I can see this in this video, she seems kinda timid and not charismatic. The opera mulan was charisma personified so this is a downgrade.

No, they took out the Captain because they found it inappropriate for someone to have a love interest with their boss. And they also replaced Mushu with a Phoenix, which, as a real live Chinese person, I am completely fine with that, because the way they portrayed dragons with Mushu, just didn't work with us.
This movie is based on the original story! Disney added a talking dragon in the cartoon. In the original it was a phoenix cause its about yin and yang type thing.

The Phoenix is going to be the Guardian for Hua Mulan. I feel the true villain is going to be Gong Li's character for sure. Jason Scott Lee is highlighted as the villain but Li's character is the ultimate mastermind. Even the other cast members such as Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Ron Yuan, Hoon Lee from Warrior that airs on Cinemax as well as Nelson Lee from the upcoming Stargirl for DC Universe and CW fit there roles perfectly.

What I liked about the Jungle Book remake (the only I like so far), is that they went back to the source material and expanded on the story rather than trying to "fix" or do a straight remake of the movie. It seems like that's what they're doing here. I'm irritated enough with the lead actress that I'm on the fence about seeing it in theaters but the movie does look interesting.

Agreed. The original movie is great. No redemption needed. If the Chinese can't tell when a movie (an animated one no less) is not to be taken seriously and is meant to be silly fun, that's their problem. Some of these changes are just unnecessary.

This take is not based on the Disney one. It's based on the original tale. The original tale didn't have Mushu in it.
The cartoon is okay, but this is way better as it's closer to the real story....which is an excellent story.

I don't think the mythology of the Chinese phoenix rises from ashes. That's the Greek phoenix that does that.

That is correct. She was basically encouraged to fight in her father's stead in the original story. Makes a much more badass story, if you ask me.

Its an actual take on the chinese folk tale than the animated version that disney made which flopped in china. So not including "mushu" and "shang" is the best way to redeem themselves.
mu shu is a Chinese takeout naming one of their revered mythical beast in chines culture, was an insult to them. So no.
Agreed. The original movie is great. No redemption needed. If the Chinese can't tell when a movie (an animated one no less) is not to be taken seriously and is meant to be silly fun, that's their problem. Some of these changes are just unnecessary.
