Switching puzzles are my favorite part of model railroad operations, particularly when they're integrated with a nice local run. We have a couple timesaver-esque puzzles on my club's layout and I always try to snag one of those locals during operations.
When I was a kid we had an O scale Lionel train set up on a 4 x 8 plywood sheet with an oval-ish layout with an extension for a coal dump mechanism. When I was in high school my mom through them all out.
My grandfather had a reasonably large (5 ft x 4 ft) OO gauge layout that folded up against the wall, like a foldout bed when not in use. All the track, buildings etc were glued to the base board. Trains, wagons etc were stored in a cupboard underneath. It was a good space saving idea.
This looks ridiculously fun to play. I've never had the time for stuff like this, in fact my only model is a Chief Mk5 from tamiya, but heck...i might give it a go!
This was a wonderful surprise! I have an Inglenook on my layout as well. I look forward to seeing the Timesaver in action next. You will have very lucky house guests, though I wonder how negotiations with your wife went.
They didn't. She went to Vegas on a business trip for three days, I knocked out all the sawing and drilling when she was away. As far as I know, she still knows nothing about it, she's not looked in the room
Well this is a fun surprise. First time I learned about this kind of game was back in the 80's reading about John Allen's HO scale masterpiece, the Gorre & Daphetid.
It’s amazing how far model railroads have come as far as space accommodation. N scale shelf layouts have become so popular with good reason. Probably best that its been done after the thing-go-in-mouth stage of the little one though 😂
I do this in real life everyday. I actually find the “puzzle solving” part quite enjoyable. Im always trying to find the quickest way to get done due to a sense of pride. (Plus im guaranteed 8hrs so if i get done sooner its free money lol)

To combine my love of n scale layout TH-cam channels and military history channels is mind blowing.

Having been playing the recent game Railroader which can have a lot of switching involved, this seems like a very pleasing game to play.
Cars and coffee is out. Chieftain and Trains is IN.

Neighbor had setup in the garage. Small area for yard. Then it ran up to line that travelled around along high up on the wall around garage then back.
If you're looking for a game that might scratch the itch of a model railroad, then I'd recommend Railroader which is in Early Access.
Huh I might make this in trainz 2019....
