This is timely, given that I just started trying to play with this last night. :) This answered _one_ question: you're using a Mac. I'd love to know which version of Ruby, etc - because I am Very Much Not A Ruby Guy (haven't used it in years) and the instructions as written don't actually work with Ruby 3.3 on NetBSD (not a huge surprise, NetBSD's a little weird) _or_ ruby 3.2 on Ubuntu 24.01. I guess I'll try it on my mac next, though a _little_ more info would be lovely...
Hello, I've recently learned about TRMNL and love the idea however I have run Ethernet drops throughout my house and would prefer to connect the screen via Ethernet and power it via PoE - then I would not require a battery (less toxic waste) would never have to charge it and would not have to connect the device to WiFi, making it more secure. Is there any plan on an addon piece of hardware that would enable data + power via PoE rather than battery + wifi? Please, and thank you very much
thanks for checking us out. no immediate plans for PoE but will share this feedback with the team. you are* able to leverage TRMNL with WiFi only (local network, no internet) already however, which you saw demonstrated in this video if that helps.
I am so impressed by your product. It is absolutely awesome. I hope it will evolve into something bigger. Onyx Boox it too lazy to upgrade Android on his new devices. I think you can compete with them in near future. Let me explain which exactly I would buy but can't find on market. I hope that such feedback will be valuable for you when you will think about next iterations of your product. - eink screen - that I can connect to computer and display as a window by (scrcpy) - that I can connect to computer and recognize as external screen by xrandr - that I can use to read books - that has apps (plugins) like your device - that have installed os like android, chromium os or linux - that can be connected to keyboard and used as laptop I know that all these requirements are impossible to meet now, and you produced something much simpler, but this way, how you achieved this gives me hope, that in few years your products will do revolution on market of eink devices. I wish you the best.
web server: github.com/usetrmnl/byos_sinatra
firmware: github.com/usetrmnl/firmware
Really cool that you've also opensourced the server!
I mean it is "A server", as you will have to develop the plugins yourself
@@bblz9171 Yes. That's ok and reasonable
Great you guys make this possible! The choice is everything users want^^
Would be cool If you OS the plugins too :P
Do I have to disassemble TRMNL to flash the firmware or can I also access the buttons on the PCB through the housing?
I can’t wait to get my hands on device

Sure thing. One of our team members created this (side project) which can help you set up Ruby on Windows or Linux:

Awesome, can you Dockerize it?
thanks for the support. full Docker image is in progress, otherwise Docker instructions already live.
