    I've made this cake three times and I'm making it again but I'm going to try a bunt pan.. I love the recipe and I refuse to tell people where I got it lol. Happy holidays...

      Usualmente lo mas que lo dejo es unos 4 dias en la never lo más. Hay personas que lo ponen en el freezer por más tiempo.

    OMG, I'm not a lemon/lime cake lover, but this looks very yummy. Question, have you tried it with selfrising flour? or is cake flour and self-rising almost the same thing?...just wondering

    You can use basic buttercream and you can add some lemon extrsct if you want more lemon kick to it

      I haven't done it in vanilla but I know the key to this cake is the combo of butter and vegetable shortening. It gives the best texture ever. Let me know if you try it before I do. I have been working on some low carb/no sugar recipes to share..lol

    Keep in mind..both are fats but react very different. Butter gives flavor while shortening will give a different texture.

    high ratio shortening has more fat that makes everything taste better. I know fats are no good but specially with making buttercream, it makes a more smoother and less grainy flavor

      You can use a basic flavor or you can use some key lime flavor buttercream. Cream cheese also goes well with it and raspberries.

    My first try was self rising but I didn't love the outcome as much as I did with the cake flour. But cake some cake flours do come self rising. They are just more difficult to find.

      Well..the reason why it uses shortening it's because it gives the cake a velvet texture. You can exchange it with butter but it won't be the same the same texture.

      +Shenequia Kilpatrick The zest does give a lot of flavor. Just make sure not to use the white part. And yes, you can use green if you want.

      Of course you can add green color. The zest adds flavor so it's a bit important!

    •Milk (just under one cup)
    •1 Tablespoon white vinegar or lemon juice
    Preparation:
    1. Place a Tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice in a liquid measuring cup.
    2. Add enough milk to bring the liquid up to the one-cup line.
    3. Let stand for five minute. Then, use as much as your recipe calls for

    Haven't tested it with butter yet, but the amount of shortening is very small. You wont be able to taste it.

      Yes you can double it but make sure it will fit in the mixer you use.

      Edna, if I was going to make this cake in a 12 inch would I still only need to double the recipe or triple the recipe.. Yes, its for an order that I have for Thanksgiving.. I said up above it was for a 10" but its for a 12 inch. Thanks Edna for all that you do.. love you

      I do 2 batches if you are working with a 4 or 5 quart mixer you might have to bake them separately unless your mixer is bigger or you have 2 of them

    For those of you who made this cake, about how long did you bake it in the oven?

      That really depends on a lot of factors and that is why I never give a set time. Every oven cooks a bit different and the pan you use might change the time too. I used 8 x 3 and the oven was set to 325 and it took between 60 to 70 minutes to cook. It never is an exact time.

    I like to put a small pan of water in the bottom of my oven as it preheats and leave it in there throughout the baking time to ensure a good result IMO. Just for cakes😊

      If you live in the USA, you can try Philsbury company. They sell big bags of cake mix. You can try also wholesale companies that sell to restaurants. Most of them do require a company tax number.

      @@Cynthiagotho3s For recipes that require shortening it's mostly used to give stability and strength to it. Especially if you live in hot humid areas. Butter is the other fat you can use instead of shortening but the buttercream will melt easier and might not hold as well as shortening.
