  • How early do boba shops open where you live? I'm usually up early, so I've grown accustomed to making my own drink at home. I love the smell of fresh tapioca pearls cooking as I get some early morning work done. Today, I'll be showing you how to make a classic black milk tea with boba. We'll start with the hot version, then go over the small adjustments for the iced version to make it just as refreshing and creamy.

☕How to Make Authentic Black Milk Tea Boba
    1. Cook a fresh batch of boba from raw tapioca pearls. 20 minutes of cooking followed by 10 minutes of resting produces the perfect chewy texture.
    2. Use Red Jade black tea loose leaves. They are harvested from a tea plant unique to Taiwan, and have a naturally sweet fragrance.
    3. Use Taiwanese black sugar powder. It has a more complex molasses flavor that gives the tea a caramelly taste.
    4. For the iced version, increase the sugar, evaporated milk, and steeping time. This ensures that the milk tea won’t taste diluted as the ice melts!
