      @vikkipink1288 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +24

I think part of it is because Japan does encourage working as much as possible and to do that realistically you need to be able to rest as much as possible when you can. In America the way the working class is treated is beyond bizarre. I guess it’s because of the whole notion that as long as you work hard enough you won’t be poor which just simply isn’t true. For some reason the upper class hates anything that might make it seem like service workers are being “lazy” aka why we are forced to stand all day when working at as a cashier, bank teller, or front desk at hotel even though it makes absolutely no sense and does nothing but needlessly wear out employees. I had so many responsibilities working front desk at a motel and the fact that I wasn’t even able to sit down while checking people in made me so angry. There was absolutely no reason the counter needed to be that high up. My feet would be killing me by the end of my shift. There were so many more things I wanted to do to make the place nice but I was getting so worn out from never being able to sit down that I just couldn’t do it so it’s actually just holding people back from being more productive. It’s so stupid.

So over the past year I've built up a lot of experience trying to nap or at least rest in all kinds of places (as a treatment for chronic fatigue) and I would be all over their nap rooms but the giraffe nap - only if the other options were taken 😅. I usually bring ear plugs and/or earbuds for white noise but it's very thoughtful of the café to provide it! Oh, and my tip for anyone needing some quick rest would be - do take some deep breaths at the start and don't get hung up on actually falling asleep. Rest is still rest!

As a Resident, I do 28 hour shifts 6-7 times a month. And the caffeine nap is actually a thing that works surprisingly well for synergistically increasing your energy. You basically drink a cup of coffee and then immediately take a 20 minute nap before the caffeine hits. Now sleeping vertically...I'm afraid I don't have much experience with that

That's a pretty novel idea. I can see it working anywhere in Tokyo because the majority of people there are well-bahaved and keep to themselves. Put that sleep pod in any North American cafe and you've almost flushed your money down the toilet. I've never been able to nap, not even as a little kid. I'd be the one fidgeting on the blanket, bored, waiting for the other kindergarten kids to wake up so we could get back out to the playground. Never been able to sleep on planes sitting up, no matter how long the flight was. But after I turned 65, I suddenly HAD to take a nap after work for a few hours. Now I have a two hour nap nearly every day - not vertical, in bed with lots of pillows, and a white noise machine to drown out outside daytime noises... and my cat cuddled up next to my shoulder because he loves napping too. Still can't sleep sitting up, but after a lifetime of insomnia, I'm at last getting enough sleep....

The second one looked like a futuristic escape capsule. I think size doesn't matter (to me, as long as I can get out 😅) but details like sound, temperature and lighting would. The whole point is to shut down as quickly as possible. Those sleep rooms looked amazing!

Damn. I googled coffee nap and I'm surprised. I've been doing that for more than 10 years before knowing it was a thing; it is common sense, it takes caffeine around 20 minutes to kick in so a quick 20 minute nap before you feel the awareness inducing effect of caffeine is amazing and makes a world of difference.

I guessed the price exact haha but I think I’m just familiar with the price of relaxing type items, for example massage chairs 😂
You definitely have to do a capsule video especially since there are so many different kinds of them in Japan .

Im the type when im tired I can sleep almost anywhere lol, when I was in the military, I'd put the toilet seat down & take a 29 min nap in the bathroom, then in my car when I was able to drive on base.....when ur beyond tired u will be surprised where u could sleep.
I remember falling asleep on the ride back from training & it was about 30 of us sitting back to chest in a truch & most of us were knocked out sleep & snoring, I've fallen asleep laying front down in the snow in the woods with ny weapon & head propped on a log....my buddy woke me up because I was snorig....thats how I jnow I was tired, it was freezing plus I dont usualy snore, THANKS FOR THE VIDEO❤

The only time I've ever slept standing up was on a crowded train home from London, I was leaning against a pillar and just happen to fall asleep. It was a family trip so my mother was with me and she thought is was hilarious.

This would be so cool to have in the office. I tend to squeeze in some power naps during my lunch break, just putting my head on the desk, but these pods look a lot more comfortable 😂

I have a kotatsu at home (Australia) and have started using a folded blanket as a pillow ON the table top to nap. So I sit at it and lean on it :)
Caffeine naps are better than caffe or naps alone in terms of feeling refreshed :)

I used to nap on my way to college while standing up on a train, I could go in and out of sleep every few seconds, and my body would sweat a lot. But even though it's not really a proper sleep, it does help me feel refresh and become more alert through the day. My college is 2 or 3 hours long trip from my home (I forgot exactly because it's been some time ago), it's in another city. Thinking back it was crazy how I can endure 4 or 6 hours of trip every week days for 4 years.

I hope one day we'll have sleeping machines like in Judge Dredd. Just go in for ten minutes and you're completely rejuvenated. If I had to chose any of the options in that cafe, I'd pick the room with the couch. I'd probably sleep for four hours since I love sleeping on couches.

Lol I went to this cafe with my friend before they set this up.
Gotta make a return just to take a closer look at it! 😂
Also, when I was still studying, I used to watch office workers just taking naps in cafes and thought it was pretty funny.
Now that I'm working in Tokyo, I understand why they do it sooo well. I wish I could take naps due to exhaustion from work.

I think I’d have to be rrrreally tired to sleep in the pod. There’s been times where I could have taken a cat nap on a breakroom table at work but yeah I have a hard time drifting off sitting up. As far as caffeine goes I’m one of those people that is super sensitive to it. If I have one cup early in the morning I feel like it’s still working when I’m trying to sleep later in the evening. 😆 Also, Norm, I love your organized tool wall in the studio! That caught my eye haha Nice job on the studio! 😃👍

ok ngl not having stayed in a capsule hotel is missing out on so much! There are some that are pretty old and...meh, but I've stayed in quite a lot of different ones and they're usually super cozy and much more chill and sometimes even more luxurious than you'd think. I've never gotten claustrophobic in them, and even if you're in a room with 20 other people it's usually super quiet. You've GOT to try this, I love me my capsule hotel every now and then when I'm traveling Japan ^^

Not sure I could sleep in one of those pods... but on my last trip to Japan, I was traveling alone and often became really overwhelmed and exhausted, so I would seek out cafes so I could just sit and recharge for a second. It would have been nice to be able to get more-or-less out of the public eye for 20 minutes to gather my composure, plan out my next steps, and generally just rest my body for a moment xD get some noise-cancelling headphones and just be in a different space for awhile
but OMG VIRTUAL BOY! I have a US version with quite a few games, but they are SO EXPENSIVE here. I'm very curious to learn how easy/expensive it is to find VB and other retro game equipment and games in Japan

Reminds me of the many many times I've fallen asleep at my desk. I suspect I'd be a natural in a sleep pod like those. Just without the caffeine, which seems to me to be directly opposite to the idea of slowing down and napping.

The first thing I thought when I saw this is how grateful Japanese women of childbearing age must be for such nap pods.
When “That Time of The Month” would strike (I couldn’t predict the day) - the pain was crippling, especially when I was an adolescent. The rapid hormone shift also made me dizzy - which made it dangerous to travel. What I needed was to take medication - and take to bed for an hour or two until my body stabilized.
Except in the U.S., if you’re out in public …there’s nowhere to safely rest in a dignified manner.
Japan is at the vanguard of recognizing and enhancing the well-being of the public. I’m heartened to see their innovative approaches to addressing human needs beginning to be adopted across the globe!
