one tip, I have the same camera ( the 5x7" version, but a iii), when 'assembling' the camera, push the track BACK!!, there is a GAP between the 'storage rail' and the track, if you don't press the latches and retract the rack, the standards dovetail base may miss or be cocked as it slides on, damaging the system, it is quite finiky, and any dings can affect focus movement ease of operation; just remember, WIDE track position for wide lenses, or for assembly/disassebly operations. Also a note on the camera back, I have the same one, but mine fits onto the reducing frame for my 5x7" you Can't fit a 120 film cassette in this one, except the horesman/toyo 'there and back again' style (has a big bulge on one end, the rest resembles a double_dark holder); as this is what is termed a SPRING back,
NO graflock bars!!, so ALL film holders MUST fit between the glass frame and the camera back, Also the Polaroid holder 504? ( takes the FP100-C) can't fit either, there is a 'duck bill' on the roller end, this "fowls" the safety dugout in the back plate, ie: the holder can't sit flat on the light seal!!- have to be sure of what holders fit in!!

Very nice video review of the camera!
I actually have an option of purchasing one of these cameras at a great price. I'm a little concerned that the T III cannot interchange parts with later models (from what I hear) but it really looks like a nice camera. I would really need to know how to look the camera over to determine if it needs servicing or bellows but I'm still interested. The one I'm looking at has several film holders a viewfinder and three lenses. The 90mm & 150mm and one larger lens that are included. Again, I would need to see the condition of all components.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this 🎞📷 I have a Linhof Super Technika III Rangefinder camera with the 4x5 back and 120 film backs for it which makes it more versatile than shooting with 4x5.

Next stop may be something like a 9x12 camera from 20s or 30s with x-ray film developed at home.
You can use Caffenol for developer too. Have fun!

I’m looking at monorails and hopefully will find something versatile and affordable to do all kinds of experiments with different obscure films and so on, maybe even some positive paper who knows!

I have a Graflex roll film back that fits on mine. I haven’t used it but seems to fit snug.

Nice video. I have one just like this one. Bought a film back by mistake and of couse had to make it work. Easely fix so I got myself a 6x7 film back that I enjoy very much. Cheers

yes, you can get a roll film back (called : super rollex), but there are TWO versions, one with the circle ring on the back (fits this older camera), the other is the one with a plate, this afixes onto the international fit back in place of the ground_glass, aka using the graflock bars. these are in two formats (56x72mm and 6x9) the 56x72 is a 70mm film holder!!- carries this in two cassettes like 35 mm ( akin to the Nikon 250 & 750 backs that fit the F2 35mm cameras); SO yes be careful what you order, some backs are designed to fit only an aero technika, or other specialised camera in the lineup.

Calumet C2 sits flat under the ground glass. 6x7 and works great.

also for hand held or press use, you can take that plate off (locks in each corner, only apear when you turn the back 45 deg. ) and fit a super rollex film holder (120; 56x72 format), NOT the cine rollex!, this takes 70 mm film in cartridges (like the cannon and nikon 250 bulk backs), so don't get this by mistake. these have the requisite ring, to which the corner locks grab this back. this acts quazi like the grafmatic holders, but a bit more bulbous.

This was fantastic! Love your work in general, and I'm hoping to get into 4x5 someday. Maybe when I'm tired of 120 film, but that might be a little while off.

also you forgot to mention the back rotates, yes, but if you pull out on the corner plates the 'format back' (the plate which holds the ground_glass and sandwitches the film holder) can be removed, and a super rollex 72 mm film back, or the plain 6x9/6x7/6x6 120 roll film backs can be interchanged, called a reducing back, also the 6.5x9 can be interchanged from the tech 70 also some backs from the Technikardan monorail series of cameras, their backs can fit this system as well.

I’m pretty sure I forgot a lot of things haha! I only had this camera for a week or two and since it was my first LF I was mostly busy ruining exposures 😅. The owner didn’t know much about it nor did he have a manual.
I tried looking for one online with no luck. I found manuals for a few different versions that were very similar but non seemed to match it exactly. So anyway I’m just happy I got to use it and manage to make a video about it to remember 😊

@@CrunchyFingers I guess not, because version 3 has no Graflok back

  • @larrymccormick3226
    @larrymccormick3226 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't think that has a Graflok back on it, but you could get a Calumet C2 6x7 back that will fit flat under the ground glass .

Linhof started using a Graflok back with the Technika III version 5 (the very last Technika III version before the Technika IV) only this Technika III version 5 is compatible with for example the Lomography Instant Fuji back, Linhof Rolex 120 film back or similar products from Horseman or others. Technika III version 4 or older need effectively a flat rollfilm back that slides in place of a regular flat film cassette.
Technika III lens plates (all versions) are also smaller and non compatible with plates of Technika IV and more recent.
The front hole behind the lens plate is also smaller than Technika IV and non compatible with fat modern lenses.
The workaround to mount my big Fuji SWD 90mm 5,6 lens on the Technika III version 5 is to unscrew the rear half of the lens, then mount the plate with the front half, remove the back, screw the rear half of the lens from the camera back (tricky to do because the metal thread is extremely fine and fragile), mount again the back. With this setup you no more can close the camera nor take the lens off without the reverse procedure to take off the lens.

Rollfilm will fit in this Technika,
There a lot of insert-rollfilm brands.
Use a cable release to make a photo.

You are not limited to 4x5 sheet, they make a 120 roll film back for this.

It fits only beginning with Technika III version 5 and more recent Technika's. Version has no more the flat front lid but a pyramidal with the tripod base screw on top of it
