Paula Carline is accused of maliciously wounding Felicity Carline, her husband's ex-wife. Felicity Carline says that she had an awkward relationship with Paula whom she felt had been unpleasant to her. One day Felicity was buying drinks in an off-licence when she encountered Paula. She was making her way to the exit with her arms embracing a number of bottles when Paula threw a packet of nuts at her that she had forgotten to take with the rest of her shopping. This was an aggressive act that caused her to fall where she was badly cut by glass, causing serious injuries...

Trivia for "Crown Court" (1972)
The jury was composed of ordinary lay people (not actors) chosen at random from the electoral roll of Manchester where the Granada TV studios were located. Only the jury foreman was an actor - this was needed to comply with Equity rules on speaking parts only being given to Equity members. All the episodes of a given case were recorded on the same day and the jury was given thirty minutes to reach its verdict, based on the evidence that it had heard. For many stories, two endings were scripted and rehearsed to match whichever verdict (guilty or not guilty) the jury happened to return.
The theme tune to the show was "Distant Hills". It was released as the B side to Simon Park Orchestra's UK Number 1 single "Eye Level".

Rodney bewes, and Lynda la plante, went on to write , TV series called Widows, so brilliant as actress and writer , thanks for these uploads, b7bb7
IS that barrister the bloke from the likely lads?
I spent many an afternoon wagging it from school watching this.
I remember it too. Came on five days a week. Twenty years ago,Granada Plus showed them.
Same here
I used to love Crown Court - thanx for sharing this
When you hear that theme tune, you know instant justice is getting thrown down.
The QC is in Dr. Who! In the Peter Davidson episode with the Daleks.
Zooumberg,
Yes you are right it is Rodney Bewes who was in the (whatever happened to) the Likely Lads; and the pilot original series.
I grew up with this-my dad used to watch it at lunchtime when he came back from the hospital for lunch to open his tin of mulligatawny soup....:-)
+Sara Sen Life was different in those days aye
yes Freedom Rules -funny to think they were good TV memories-even though we only had 3 channels on our TVs then! (in the uk) so sometimes the kids would watch adult stuff as there wasn't much in terms of programmes to choose from.... :-)
+Sara Sen My heart used to sink when I heard the music. I hated this program. I love it now though. How our tastes change.
+Zooumberg Exactly!
Alison Lee
Alison watch Six Days of Justice, It's like this but it focuses on the magistrates courts.
Great acting
@bryonyrocks The thrown peanuts started a chain of events. She fell against the wall, a shelf came down and she ended up covered in broken glass, all bloodied.
She was in hospital for 3 weeks.
Not JUST a packet of peanuts being thrown.
lol that old trumpet instruments intro
There could be a counter claim on the store keeper under Civil (not Criminal) for negligence due to the outlay of the shop and the trip would be as a result of the bad lay out of the shop and the placing of the shopping baskets on the trolley.
There was possibly malice in throwing the nuts as hard as they did; but equally the fall could made her thrown the nuts as she fell, but with less force. I would have thought an open veridict.
my mum used to watch this when i was very young, and for some reason i remember an episode where a girl was blinded because she either fell/hit some lights at a concert.can't find it on here though!
this could in part become real, about time to!
Lynda La Planters! Thanks, LOL.
Ahh cheers mate I thought so.
Total internal reflection in glass in the door would allow her to see behind, like a mirror.
Both Felicity Carline and Mr Reed, the defending QC, have played ghosts - she was in Rentaghost and he was one of The Ghosts Of Motley Hall - I believe his character was called Fanny!
That would depend on what your research project objectives were. If it was concerning court procedure, then this program is very accurate indeed. If your research was for TV programming, then you have to remember that this program was originally screened 30 years ago
@gurgless Yes, he did very well. He worked his way up from the factory and started his own business and then did a law degree as a mature student and became a barrister. Terry would have struggled to compete.
Lynda Marchal went on to write Prime Suspect as Lynda La Plante.
45' .. Fulchester! That's where Viz is based!
Yes, it's Rodney Bews.
mrs carlyn is a quick change artist or bad continuity lol
teresa webster amazing! Plus new hair do too! lol
Where's Basil Brush? Under the rostrum?
Boom! Boom!
Lol yakkity yakkity Crown Court yakkity yakkity Peanuts
Bob Ferris became a barrister then.
Why are the defence and prosecution barristers stood in the wrong places?
Pretty sure how this will go. Because of the victim's "primness", victim-blaming will dictate the cross-examination AND the verdict. The louder and brasher defendant will get the sympathy. This isn't a spoiler as I could well be wrong - hope I am.
Is it Lynda La Plante? Or is it Lynda Planters?!
+pix046 very good
It's Lynda La Plante!!
WTF? Is that Rodney Bewes playing the magistrate??
YUP !
I'm half expecting James Bolam to interrupt him at some point.
mistofoles He is playing the barrister. I only remember him in The Likely Lads!
this stuff was dry when i was a child, and it's still dry. I work for a real court and we have more life than this. Thanks for the relived tv memories though.
The Defendant Paula Carlisle, later appears in the Proffesionals as one of two women in a gay marriage, and one ends up killing the other.
+Christopher Richarards I don't think Paula appears in the professionals in that role, but it really looks like her (In Everest was also Conquered?). I know Paula Carlisle appears in the professionals as the kidnapped girls mum in The Acorn Syndrome episode. Just a bit of trivia, anyway. Thanks Christopher :-)
Boring....
