I give John Ford credit for always depicting Confederate soldiers as historical accounts record. Ragged, wearing butternut and blanket rolls. He does perhaps play up the “red neck “ stereotype but his Civil War depictions do seem to match the historical record as attested to at the time. Russ Tamblyn in “How the Wet Was Won “ is further evidence of Ford’s historical representation of the Confederate Soldier as fairly accurate to accounts of the time.
Unfortunately, John Wayne did not respect minorities. One of the greatest actors of all time Kirk Douglas did not agree on any social issues with Wayne because Wayne had a problem with fairness for all people. Wayne stock has dropped dramatically because of this. In contrast Clark Gable, a superior actor and person, respected all races and promoted equality. John Ford also is known for his looking down on people of color. Ford is really an average director anyway. Cukor, Wilder, Norman Jewsion are superior directors.
Boah... This uninformed, twisted, untrue nonsense from TH-cam University you write makes me think that you lie intentionally, out of bad will or hate or just evilness. Your statement is wrong in so many ways I don't know where to start or if it even makes sense to reply. The truth is much more complex.
Denver Pyle and Strother Martin, GREAT!

One of my all-time favorites. I watch this great, fun movie at least once a year.
'See what I told you about up North!'
Underrated John Ford movie.
That's riiight...... Best line in the whole movie.
Strother Martin is a treasure!
Denver Pyle is a fine actor too. They were great in this scene.
"You are welcome sir!" is something I always strive to use as a reply out of respect.
