- Today I'm sharing an in depth look at our 2020 morning basket! This morning basket was inspired by Ambleside Online's 2020 enrichments as well as the a need to meet the kids in the morning in a light, engaging way.
We have 3 kiddos and 2 are active members of this morning routine, our 1st grader and our preschooler. Starting off the day with a "circle time" sort of method helps to prepare the way for a productive day.

So glad I stumbled across this! I'll be starting AO year 1 with my oldest next year (and will also have an almost 4 yr old and 1 year old in tow!) and I plan on using G+C with my younger two when they're ready! Thanks! I got that idea from my Piano Teacher from when I was a kid. Every lesson would always begin with a quick 2 minutes of note flashcards. It helped me so I figured it would help my kids too. : )

Christina I love this video! I'm a catholic homeschooling mom of 7 year old twins! I need to check out your blog and find out where you got your menu covers and wonderful print outs. I've been doing a mix of Gentle feast curriculum with salt and light catholic minimilaist homeschool this past year but I spent more this past year than I want to for 2021-2022 school year. There are so many good free resources out there and I JUST found ambleside and I'm so excited that its a free resource!! We cherish our biblestudy and Cathecism in the morning and our poems, etc too! Much love to you and your family. I need to email you to find out your opinions on the Spanish resources out there...Im half Mexican and cant speak Spanish but I want my twins to learn it!!!
I’m so sorry for my delay in responding. It’s been a hectic month around here. I’m so glad you found my channel! I’m happy to help in any way I can. I jumped head first into Ambleside Online and absolutely loooove it! I have spent quite a bit on other curriculums for my boys who are younger and love that Ambleside is free and has so much support!
As for Spanish, we are going pretty light this year. I want to find something a bit more structured for next year but for now we are doing the basics by doing Spanish worksheets and going over vocabulary, doing Duolingo and using the Spanish book I show in this video. She has learned quite a bit, but truly there’s nothing like taking an hour of your day and just speaking In Spanish. It’s tough to be consistent with it so I put an alarm on my phone to remind me. Hope that helps!

You have explained this so well!! I do have a few questions 😅 like how do you schedule everything tho? I know you said you don’t do all your morning basket (seperate days for composer, art etc) how long do you take on them? My kids are newly 8, 5.5, 3 and 1 and it’s chaos every morning 🫠😅

And I believe I downloaded the prints directly from the Ambleside Online website and then sent them to print at FedEx. Other places to consider are 8x10 matte photography prints. I think I would've preferred those so that the color would've been more vibrant.

I can relate. It took me a few months of lots of research and combing through all of the posts in the FB AO community and the forum and then breaking down the weekly schedule into a daily one so that I felt secure enough to dive head first. Honestly, going with AO was the very best decision I made this year for us! Dive in and ask all the questions, you won’t regret it!

What do you do for “Trial and Triumph “?
We switched out Trial and Triumph for the religion schedule on the Mater Amabilís curriculum. I had to tweak it a bit so that we could focus on advent during the month of December but it wasn’t too difficult. If you’re interested in my schedule send me your email amd I’ll send it to you.

It’s a little taller than 8.5x11 but honestly it’s so much better that it’s bigger because then you can switch out the pages quite easily. I’ve since bought more menu holders to fit 8.5x11 pages and I returned them because it was too difficult to slide the papers in and out.

Great video! Do you have a template you used for your weekly schedule?
I don’t have a template written out (yet! That’s a great idea though and I’ll edit the post to include it as soon as I make one.) what I do is figure out what from my daughter’s AO enrichment schedule I want to tackle that morning (I.e. hymns, folk songs, composer or artist study) then I add other items I know only take about 5 minutes or so and I add them to our morning rhythm: new prayers, math skills like skip counting or counting backwards, poetry recitation, nursery rhymes, Spanish flash cards, etc. everyday is a bit different but at least I have all the 5 min work in this one place and we always hit them at least 2xs per week.

The morning basket itself was repurposed from a Christmas basket that was given to us with goodies in it a few years ago. I’m sure you can find a beautifully sturdy one in TJ Max HomeGoods or in Target. Ikea has some pretty good ones too although I’m not sure if they have them lined like this one.

Yikes! Those art prints do not seem age appropriate for those little ages. Also, do the faces scare your littles?
It's definitely a whole lot of art for little ones, but they really took to it and it's amazing to see these art pieces through their eyes. They see things differently than adults do. Learning art history and appreciation this way has definitely changed the way I look at all sorts of art now.
Dear momma, I like many of your ideas, but not the unbiblical ones. Mary is not part of the Trinity or co-equal with God or to be worshipped at all. Also, the book of Hebrews shows that only Jesus is our priest. Christians pray directly to God! Also, Psalms 7:11, and other verses, show that not everyone is a child of God. Please, read your KJV Bible to see these things.
