A video showing some of Zato's ordinary/useful combo options, with real-time fightstick input display and transcripts included. I won't say Zato requires complicated inputs (as can be inferred from the not so frequent movement of the fightstick display), but the way Eddie works is definitely not 'traditional' as many people may be accustomed to the very concept/stereotype that fighting game moves are consisted of quarter circles, half circles, and sometimes charged motions. But, as the great Master Yoda would say, "you need to unlearn what you have learnt." And that is what makes Zato really fun to play with.

I main Zato in strive. I’ve been trying to learn him in Xrd, but watching some of his combos makes me need a smoke break lol.
thanks man,im starting in guilty gear and i was having troubles with zato, this video helped me a lot
Hey thanks for watching. Glad that it helps.
But starting straight away with Zato? Man, you must already have solid fundamentals!
:O
xDD no,i didnt understand the game itself totally but for me zato is the funniest character to play in this game, and for me it seems to be the hardest character as well @_@
Difficulty doesn't matter as long as it's fun LOL
Btw the game has some wonderful tutorials that can help you learn all the mechanics and some.
sure, when i aws in the first tutorial i didnt finished it cause i was too hyped for the fighting itself xD,sad that GG didn't have a big community like Street Fighter 5 and Tekken 7 :/,for me this game is the best of this generation.
YEA! Isn't this game amazing. Game is not easy to learn, but I'll take depth over accessibility on any day.
And a patch is expected after EVO Japan.
Ah yes, my favorite gay vampire with a buff ghost. Oh wait a minute, wrong series.

It’s alright. I’m 99% sure Zato was based off of Dio in some way. Venom even vaguely resembles Vanilla Ice
@@ShadowknightEX Yee true
@@ShadowknightEX He has the same voice actor as DIO from the anime

Tandem attack, like in HFTF... and the character's pretty similar too. Not to mention they both have the same voice actors.
I Am a beginner in fighting games, I supose that this is little by little, the pacience is the key.
Sorry for my english, I Am spanish.
Do what you think is fun and enjoy the learning process.
Why is zato considered bad in rev 2. Always seems like his tools are insane to me. He such a cool character and fun
He got some nerfs on the recovery of Invite Hell and unsummoning, which gave the opponents more gaps to escape his pressure and also made him much worse when Eddie is not available. I think there was increase in the size of his hurtbox during some moves as well, but the recovery nerfs seemed to be the major problem.
I started to play GG again and I am struggling to do the combos that involve Eddie
It's not easy to train for that muscle memory of holding and releasing buttons. To start with, I recommend practicing block strings by alternating 5P 5K 5S and Eddie's Traversing Attack. If you got comfortable enough, turn the dummy's defense to random and see if you can confirm into a dust or something.
Fucking brilliant man, thanks
how do u do dead mans hand without messing up ur inputs?
Two interesting things about 'Dead Man's Hand' (214D) are:
(1) it can be used regardless of Zato's movement/condition, and
(2) Zato can un-summon Eddie before the animation of 'Dead Man's Hand' fully ends even when Eddie's bar is emptied.
In Combo #8, I entered 214D during the dust homing dash. Since Zato is stuck in the short animation of dashing, 'Dead Man's Hand' came out without Zato doing an accidental raw dust or such. And because the animation is quite long, I was able to retrieve Eddie after 5S 2S.
In Combo #10, I pressed D the moment after entering 'Break the Law' (214K). The game still recognizes the 214 command of 'Break and Law', so the huge hand came out as soon as Zato went underground. And staying underground prevented Zato from doing a raw dust move.
So the idea is to input 214D while Zato is busy with some other moves or when a dust won't interfere with what Zato is doing. For example, like in Advanced Combo 10 of Zato, you can do 214D when Zato is recovering from a Blitz Shield attack. Or while you are doing a gatling string that ends with 2D or j.D, you can input 214 before that 2D or j.D (like if you are trying to end an air combo with j.K > j.H > j.D while Eddie is crawling around, you can input j.K > j.S > j.214D instead and retrieve Eddie when Zato lands).
I can't seem to get that cross up at 0:30. Are you doing something particular with the air dash?
Hmm I didn't do anything special there. Might just be a spacing issue. I believe you can also jump over the dummy for the cross-up.
Is it true it's better to play this game with the hotbox rather than a controller?
I'm. Planning to buy xrd 2 but when I read that I got somewhat discouraged.
I know a few Zato players who play with a gamepad. A lot of players in the US use gamepad too.
Kono dio da
thank you for the combos!
I started learning zato (with pad O.o) but I don't understand why after j.416S (in combo 13 and others) Sol falls in the ground... when I try to do the aereal special Sol sticks to the wall far away from the ground. I have the same problem with advance challenge 8 (RC after throw in the corner like in combo 16). I think is a problem of timing between the Eddie's special and Zato. Any advice would be very appreciated :)
Shadow Gallery (j.426S) has two hits. The combo is timed such that Eddie's [S] attack hits the dummy after the 1st and before the 2nd hit of j.426S (what makes the dummy stick to the wall and slide down is the 2nd hit of j.426S). The suggestion I can give is to slightly hold on to S a bit after inputting j.426S and then release S.
Thanks for watching~ :)
thank you for the quick answer! :)
I really hope there are people still playing this awesome game in Europe on ps4 because yesterday I went online but lobbies were dead (except Japanese lobbies)
Yea I sure hope this game gets more love. It definitely deserves more for the depth and fun it offers.
On a side note, I wish ASW introduce more characters or stuff as well. It seems Team RED is entirely occupied by DBFZ now...
What about the button layout? Is it Zato spé?
Anyway thanks, real good stuff.
Button layout is at the bottom right. That's just my usual layout.
@@YXiao Yeah but is it like an official button layout available on cabinet? Or did you use it to play Zato specically?
Thanks for answering btw
@@IMangame
I use this layout for all characters. There's no "official" layout, though for the arcade version the layout can only be chosen from 5 preset types. www.dustloop.com/wiki/index.php/GGXRD/Controls#Arcade_Layout
@@YXiao oh too bad yours isn't one of them. It seems good for Zato since you can easily hold all buttons.
Did you start using it because you were a BB player?
@@IMangame
Actually that was a habit carried over from when I was still playing KOFXIII on a computer keyboard. I find it more conducive to use all fingers especially when I have a regular character like Raiden with hold-button charge moves.
If I were to play GGXrd in the arcade I would probably use the Type-C layout.
Sao todos universais?
The rhythm would differ a bit based on the target, but they are quite applicable.
Are they work on last patch or its just me retarded? I couldn't chain even 1 and 2 combo ((((. (Pad player, p k s on shoulders. H = x, D = o)
His combos have been the same throughout other than in a few extreme case.
@@realhero4356 Oh yea that's a trait of GGXrd. Every character has different weight, defense modifier, hurtbox size, etc., so you need to make a lot of adjustment in combos and also approach them differently in match-ups.
Are they hard?
Zato requires insane execution because you have to control Eddie also which is his pet so yes some of these are incredible hard. But starting out focus on the beginning combos and also try and find your own that work for you. That the great thing about guilty gear it very free from you can make up your own combos and still do well. The hardest things to learn in guilty gear is not the combos it the neutral. Guilty gear had a very wierd neutral game with RC AND Yrc but super fun even when learning and getting owned. You will see alot of people do diffrent combos and end things in there own setups really neat to see people make the character there own. Very rare to run Into 2 people who play the character the exact same way. it why GG is an amazing game
