College is worth it if you don't overpay for it. (I walked away from college with very little debt because of scholarships and grants.) I think college made me a very knowledgeable and dynamic software developer and it really is helpful having someone talk you through something in different ways until you understand it. I also love the experiences I got to have while being an "adult with training wheels".

I hated school with the white hot passion of a thousand suns. ADD I suppose. I somehow managed to end up working in IT and engineering. I make $80k, not bad not great. Wife and I are content, kids raised, house paid off. A few minor bills, new roof, some medical since I just beat cancer.

All my siblings make their living with their hands. I went to college because I didn't have those skills. My ROI on my undergrad and graduate degrees has been well worth what I paid. I also "own" my degrees free and clear; I paid all my student loans off years and years ago.

Good job, Ken. It would have been easy to put a bunch of people up there saying "It was awful. Never do it. IT's for the elite" but you were intellectually honest on this. You're right - it's not for everyone, nor the only way and we need to ask questions but higher ed isn't worthless.

You have access to way higher paying jobs with (a good) degree. Certain fields will lead to being a high earner no matter what. Can you be successful without a degree ? Yes. But that route can often be longer and harder. A degree is a verifiable credential. It’s good to have.

that was true for my dad and his generation
im 30 and out of all the friends i have who went to college the last 7 years.....only 1 is outta debt from college. So technically none of them are better off then me after several years of being out of college. And almost all of them make the same or less money...so was kinda pointless

I’m supper iffy on degrees. Especially if your family never helped build a savings account to help pay for your college. It’s no fun graduating college and then getting a job that barely pays enough to cover your bills and seeing a large chunk of your paycheck going to student loans. At that point you don’t have any money to put toward things you enjoy, it’s all going towards making lenders filthy rich. There are jobs that require book smarts and then there are jobs that are street smart and I’d take street smart jobs over a huge amount of college debt any day.

It fascinating to me to see how peoples brains work and how they justify things that they don’t have actually being helpful anymore. Like I have a degree in fashion design and I make 15,000 and it paid off???? My ROI number must be too high but it seems like there’s better money at the fast food place at the corner??

Going to college to earn a piece of paper from a prestigious school to impress others and not being mindful of cost...not worth it. Going to college to actually learn something that you can apply to advance your career AND treating it as an INVESTMENT...1000% WORTH IT! I hate it when people blindly bash college...

*YES PAY FOR A DEGREE IN CASH* *PAY FOR ANY QAULIFICATION OR AS MANY THINGS AS IS POSSIBLE IN CASH.* *BETTER TO BE FREE FROM SLAVERY OF DEBT*
*COLLEGE / A FOUR YEAR DEGREE DOES NOT HAVE TO BE THE ONLY WAY. SEARCH THINGS OUT WELL BEFORE MAKING A DECISION.*
*THE TRADES, AND ASSOCIATES, ETC, ARE EQUALLY AWESOME OR AS GOOD, DEPENDING ON YOUR LIFE PATH AND WHAT YOUR JOB FIELD REQUIRES*
*ANY LEARNING SITUATION IS MORE THAN JUST THE EDUCATION. YOU LEARN OTHER SKILLS THAT ARE TRANSFERRABLE. YOU LEARN ABOUT LIFE AS WELL*
*EVEN IF ONE DOES NOT EXACTLY/DIRECTLY WORK IN THE FEILD STUDIED, THEY ACTUALLY TECHNICALLY DO, BECAUSE THEY ACQUIRED OTHER SKILLS IN THAT IS ALLOWING THEM TO STILL FUNTION IN THE OTHER FIELD*

Honestly no I don't think it is. Got a degree in network engineering and it took me no where. All the tech places want people who already have experience, send jobs overseas or hire visa workers for less. No company wanted to give me chance or offer training programs and internships were basically trial runs before hiring. 3 years of my life wasted for nothing. So no I don't think it's worth it.
