Why don’t you guys turn the draws around and move the handles instead, so they are on the plain side of the draw if that makes sense easy to do. Love the room xx
Literally came to the comments to say the same thing. I love the look of the natural wood with the wood shelf, and that could fix it all (if the cabinets open backwards).
You need to plug the wall when drilling and putting in screws- otherwise overtime it’s going to come off the wall. Also to drill into brick or into plasterboard requires different drill bits xx
Helpful DIY tip when using an electric drill if the hole is too large/unstable buy assorted raw plugs to plug the hole then the screw will fit perfectly into place 😊
Omg, the part where James can't remember the name of the bird was hilarious and reminded me SO MUCH about my high school English B2 oral exam (as a foreign language) where one of the tasks was to describe what's happening on the picture (very similar to 1:19) and I panicked a little because I just couldn't remember the word "an ostrich" but after like a minute of using "a big black bird" in every sentence, I had a moment of revelation and almost screamed "AND BY THE WAY, THE BIRD IS CALLED AN OSTRICH". The examiner was amused because it was really obvious that I forgot that word but finally I got 100%. Also, the room looks AMAZING and I love watching your vlogs
When screwing anything into the wall, make sure to use a stud-finder. Drywall won't hold screws in the wall without also using drywall screws. But, even when you use drywall screws, you can't put anything heavy in. Studs are really the only thing you can use to hang anything with any weight to it. Great makeover - it looks fantastic!
I think the bedside cabinets would look awesome two tone black and white as in the the frame and the top white and the draws matte black as then the lamps won’t clash as much then , loving what you’ve done with the house , we actually viewed your house in 2010 and decided that it would be too much work but wow it has changed massively and looks amazing and I’m sure with the work you have planned it will be exceptional!! Good luck with everything 🙂
Think you guys done a fantastic job on the guest room. I like the wood side tables it brings out the wood shelf and door to room also brings out the natural texture in the throw rug love all the touches
The bedsides don’t even need functioning drawers! They look so good just like that.. sorta contemporary and the timber softens everything! Love you guys!! Xxxx
Invest in a stud finder for the walls; you should be able to find one at any hardware store. This would help you find exactly where the wood is behind the wall, and prevent drilling into nothing and causing a hole that needs to be fixed later. Also, did you pull the drawer out completely of the side table? The wood on the back of the drawer is probably plan, and if you're lucky, you may be able to just turn the drawers around and only have to reattach the knob.
Sheetrock anchors will keep the screws from pulling back out of the wall. If you are hanging heavy objects, you need to make sure your screws are in a stud behind the sheetrock. Get some sheetrock anchors for the other rooms to save yourself from loads of frustration and repair work later. I love the room! Beautiful.
Get yourselves a good DIY book and some masonry drills with specific wall plugs for the walls, and this will help you tremendously. If you get some filler for the holes you drilled, one big tip, get the filler in a large squeezy tube. You push the tube in the hole so air does not get trapped and the filling will not fall out. Best of luck in the future an love the house.
If you guys are still iffy about the side tables you could opt to return them and buy two more of that shelf you got under the mirror and just use another shelf as a side table! Maybe put a cute basket or something underneath if you wanted some sort of storage.
I think you should keep those side tables as they are and turn them the correct way round. The little black handle detail with the neutral wood goes perfectly in my opinion and it will look gorgeous! Especially with the wood shelf with the black rails you have under the mirror, it will all tie in perfectly! 😊 Xx
When drilling into brick, use a smaller drill bit & use raw-plugs that way the screws are in the wall secure, tap raw-plugs in with hammer very gently, (make sure you measure the screw / raw-plugs on the drill bit & mark it so you get the right debth) if you have a plasterboard wall then use a tiny drill bit to do a guide hole for the drywall (partition)screw to go into , then screw the "real" screw into it , that way you know its straight & strong. Also there are different drill bits for each texture ie wood, brick, plasterboard bla bla bla , so you might have been using the wrong drill bit & that's why it snapped. Also if you want them lampshades in every room but different colours then just buy the white ones & spray the outside of them to the colour you want, The room looks great, you have done a great job
Yay your video went live when I was on my break. I’m on night duty 🙃 Love me a Jarys home vlog 🙈❤️❤️ I would do those besides in white rather than black. I think it’ll be too heavy with the lamps on top. White will keep it light and then the lamps add the contrast 😊
If you find you are drilling holes too big and the screws don’t fit try putting “wall plugs” also called “rawlplugs” they go in the holes to give the screws something to screw into if that makes sense, hope that helps for any future home stuff x
Love your videos. So look forward to each one. I love the room as it is, everything goes together so beautifully. I personally wouldn’t paint the bedside tables as the natural wood ties in with your shelf wood. If you painted the bedside table then your creating another colour of furniture. The wardrobe colour with the natural wood of the bedside tables and shelf work together, add the colour black and it screams 😱😱 opposites. I’d definitely think a bit more before going ahead. It looks gorgeous. Thank you so much for your show, you add a smile 😊 to my day xxx
*Where did you get your old elephant bedding from? Dunno if they’d do it any more though. But I love elephants. Elephants were my nan’s favourite animals & she passed away when I was 5. So there’s not much that reminds me of her. But elephants is one thing. I just got an adult & baby elephant ornament for my room. I’d love that bedding too as a set for when my ones in the wash. My rooms grey. But curtains & bedding is yellow with a large black, grey & white floral design (nicer then I made it sound lol! I got it from Next. But I don’t think they do it anymore.) but that elephant print bedding would go with my grey walls.*
Suggestion, when you drill a hole, first put plastic dowel the right size and then screw! It will hold much better as simply screw! And there are many different drill options for different type of walls! You just need the right one!
Hilti hammer battery drill for hard walls.love this vlogg, always great idea's.....love the tall wardrobe, very efficient for a small space, and with an ottoman bed gives you lots more storage. Big LoveXx.
OMG, drill holes and use raw plugs!! Little plastic or metal plugs (depending on the type of wall) that go in the drilled holes that you can then screw into, makes it much more secure
We did shelves too but for our bedside table because we have drawers under our bed. Please be careful when screwing in the wall because if there is an outlet under it and you hit the electrical box you could get electrocute yourself. Oh and for the record when you drill you are supposed to use a drill bit to make a bigger hole than the screw because you are supposed to put an anchor in the wall first and everything I bought for my house came with the screws needed. I dont like those end tables but they will look good black.
Such a beautiful room. You guys have really good taste and I love everything about it. Camera seems fine to me no shakiness and couldn't really notice any difference. Just love watching you two as I was more interested in what the two of you were saying and doing and wasn't paying attention to the camera performance lol. ❤
The hard section of the wall might be a chimney breast and the plasterboard bit might be where the alcoves may have been filled in to make the chimney breast flush. If the room directly downstairs has a fireplace, you could start tearing up the walls... You might discover brickwork from a fireplace that would look great with your little mantle from etsy and the mirror above it
I think the bedside tables should be painted a grey color. I think that would look amazing. I think black would make the lamps blend too much. I can't wait to see what you paint them. Your house is beautiful.
Hi sweeties the room looks fantastic your bedside tables I would paint just the front of the doors before you paint them all over because it might be touch and the old you can add to but can't take away but amazing job xxxx keep smiling p.s you need a hammer drill
For the bedside tables you should try painting just the design black, like paint the lines. Or paint the drawer fronts and leave the frame wood grain. The transformation came out great btw!!!
Guys 😂❤❤ You're making me giggle hahahahahaha, James, you both kill me. Ooh, hey- for bedside tables: thrift!! Try thrift second-hand shops and see if anything sticks out at you! Guys, even if they're slightly different but you put similar lamps on them it works great! Ohh you did find some!! Looks great!!
Lmao 😂 Ostrich, Jamesys.. y’all are supposed to use a level and find the stud (inside the wall) to screw into that will hold the shelves, etc. But this was fun to watch lol 😂 there’s no instruction book 📚 for new home 🤕 owners is there? Looks like you figured it out xoxo 😘 best wishes to you and your families for 2020 and beyond!
Loving the vibe of the room, natural tones with the harshness of the black. Why don’t you guys undo the draws and just swap out the back plate with the front? Allowing you to have a plain front. X

Great idea! :D

Kristy Kroll I love the natural wood touches too looks so good!

James is talking about an ostrich ! 😂
@Olivia P me too xx
I was literally yelling it at the screen 😂
I think black hardware/handles on the interior wood doors would look GORGEOUS. Especially if Carys likes the black vibes 👌🏼
I spent aaaaages trying to find "weird" sized furniture and the best place I found was Wayfair! Dunelm/Ikea prices can be ridiculous! X
Yup wayfair and hayneedle

Pattern, textures, and color accents make this room so beautiful! Great design skill guys. I love it! 👍

Love !!! You should bring that wood bench in there and lay one of the throw blankets on it
James has me crying with laughter from that "bird opening"
James’ ringtone gave me a heart attack, thought someone was calling me 😂😂
Just checked to see if this happened to anyone else! My heart haha
Think you guys done a fantastic job on the guest room. I like the wood side tables it brings out the wood shelf and door to room also brings out the natural texture in the throw rug love all the touches

My boyfriend and I have moved into our first house, theres still loads to do and this has given me so much inspo 😍 looks amazing!
This came out at the exact right time
I literally searched for a good video for yearssss
Yayyyy😁🥰💕
A wallpaper would look great on the mirror wall!!
Love you guys 💚

Once the tables are painted black the front will look fab and completely tie in with the room!! Good idea xx

I’m excited for the 5 year plan video but I will never get sick of your house videos!!!!
For brick walls you need a masonry drill bit. Also for plasterboard walls you should really use rawl plugs (adds extra stability) x

I'm sure you did but did you put raw plugs in the wall before stewing in the screws xx
Love every single one of your videos! So down to earth and real. Some of my favourite youtubers since I going your channel over a year ago!💖
If you find you are drilling holes too big and the screws don’t fit try putting “wall plugs” also called “rawlplugs” they go in the holes to give the screws something to screw into if that makes sense, hope that helps for any future home stuff x

I love it😍 I can never visualise what things are going to look like together but you smashed it!!
please update us on the bed side tables after their painted cause I’m so interested to see the before and after 🤩🥰

There are 2 by 4 finders so you won't make holes. Love your place! Hugs to you both from Oklahoma, USA!
Definitely reverse the drawers, the way they are now look great.
Hilti hammer battery drill for hard walls.love this vlogg, always great idea's.....love the tall wardrobe, very efficient for a small space, and with an ottoman bed gives you lots more storage. Big LoveXx.
I think that the wall with the mirror and shelf would look amazing if it was all Matt black!! Like a feature wall!
OMG, drill holes and use raw plugs!! Little plastic or metal plugs (depending on the type of wall) that go in the drilled holes that you can then screw into, makes it much more secure
I would only paint the drawer front black, snd leave the main carcass of the drawer unit wood. Xxx
I love the wood look of the end tables 😍
Loving this room! Especially the mirror and shelf area 😍 love you guys and your videos 💜
Where did you get the carpet from in your spare bedroom only I’m re-decorating my bedroom and luv the carpet😍xx
……..and now James’s room is Baby Ambers room! 👏🥰

Spin the drawer around and put the handle on the opposite side!!!
Hi guys loving the house vids 😊😊 loving the style, hope your all well....p.s carys i love your mickey hoodie 😍😍
The room looks very nice! Good job Carys!
I’ve been waiting all day for this!!😍😍😍 can’t wait to see you transform your house ✌🏼✌🏼
OMG i loveeeee those tables!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
It looks amazing and love the touch of wood with the bed side tables 😍😍
I think the shelf/mirror location is perfect! Guests will be able to take advantage of the natural light from the window! :D
Where is the mirror in the bedroom from? Dont know if I missed where it was said but I need it! 😊
The room looks stunning!! So excited for more
I think the bedside tables should be painted a grey color. I think that would look amazing. I think black would make the lamps blend too much. I can't wait to see what you paint them. Your house is beautiful.
You could get a really small table for where the plant is and put the plant on top
You should paint the side tables gold to match the gold on the lamps.
WoW!!! The Room looks so nice!
Hi sweeties the room looks fantastic your bedside tables I would paint just the front of the doors before you paint them all over because it might be touch and the old you can add to but can't take away but amazing job xxxx keep smiling p.s you need a hammer drill
Love love love the transformation, this is amazing♥️
Please tell me you used wall plugs for screwing in the wall 😬😂 I love the bed throw! 😍
He is the cutest...you both are!
wow it looks so good! Where r your black jeans from?x
Love it! The room turned out great!
Hahaha the ostrich intro was hilarious. 😂‼️😂
I love the room, it literally looks like a hotel room 😍 you’ve made the best out of it, it’s already awesome 😍
The room looks so good! Nice work ☺️👍
my suggestion is to paint the beside tables drawer fronts the matte black
Yayyy, first comment! Missed you this weekend, I love your videos! xxx
James explanation of an Ostrich or Emu had me in stitches 😂❤️
these are my favorite types of videos!!!! I love your home videos! super fun and I love seeing your individual style(((:
looks like a hotel room!!!!
My walls are all brick and it’s a nightmare!! We have a hammer drill, and then just use that and raw plugs for the brick cx
❤️❤️❤️ Love your videos look forward to them so much :)
i need moreeee vlogs!!! love you guys’ videos sooo much !!!!
For the bedside tables you should try painting just the design black, like paint the lines. Or paint the drawer fronts and leave the frame wood grain.
The transformation came out great btw!!!
Didnt u use rawl plugs in the wall? It doesnt look like u did. 🤔🤷♀️
Ostrich!! I so wished I could tell you though the screen! 😂😂
Mila looks pretty happy with her new room! 😆
Loving the theme that your going for guys!! ❤❤
Ikea do good choices for black furniture x
*Is he talking about an Ostrich? In cartoons they ride them because they’re the fastest birds/runners.*
Such an enjoyable video 😊 doing great guys 💕

Room is gorgeous!!!! Keep the vlogs coming 😘
Love love love the house vlogs 💖🏘 bedroom looks super 😁
U can make that bed side table work by staining and putting new knobs on the other side
Loving the vibe of the room, natural tones with the harshness of the black. Why don’t you guys undo the draws and just swap out the back plate with the front? Allowing you to have a plain front. X
The bird James was talking about at the start , I think it's a flamingo 🐔🐦🐧 love you 🥰😘 x
he was talking about an ostrich
You need wall plugs before putting in the screws otherwise they will fall out either straight away or over time xx
Love the room transformation so nice xx
James was taking about an ostrich 😂😂 you two are adorable ❤️❤️❤️
