;__; I was so upset at the ending (its been a month and I'm still raging). After I read the raw of the last chapter I was like..... I gotta vent in the only way possible for me - by editing!!
So I made my own ending, in a way.
In my head it makes sense. This story ends with Suzume and Shishio having a normal relationship, and as was wanted in the middle of the manga, they're honest with each other. And (I had no room at the end to put this tho) but lets assume that after Suzume graduates they get together for real....
Because I sure as hell don't believe (and didn't see at all) Suzume getting over Shishio.
Of course there are so many ways you can interpret the manga, like from Mamura's pov or shishio's...but I swear we know more about Shishio than Mamura =_= I totally did not expect Mamuras backstory to be shoved in the last chapter..why didn't we get this earlier.
I could go on and on but I've already done it countless times ohmygod.

I honestly hated how the epilogue tried to push someone on him like some sort of consolation prize. It actually would've been easier to see him alone.

The fact that ppl were hating on sensei saying, “if he truly loved her, he’d wait till she grew up” and “he’d make time for her no matter what”.... like guys!! He loved her but he was a grown-ass adult not to mention teacher. He couldn’t do whatever he wanted (I can’t imagine the guilt he dealt with when they dated-ish). He wanted to be with her so badly but he had to hold himself back cuz of his position. At the end of the day he’s also human... we want to be with people we love n their love was just pure... no other words #shizume4eva

Shishio would have much more of a chance if he didn't lie when she asked him if he loved her. He should have been honest and said yes but we can't do this because of our age gap and because you're my student. He should stop flirting and leading her on but she would probably have stuck with him because she knows the reason now. Treat her like a normal student like everyone else. Then they get together when she is 19. She only decided to move on and give up on Shishio because he said he didn't love her. I'm not convinced he likes that manga author at the end. Seems like he's trying to get with her just to move on because you can see he still has the sushi necktie Suzume gave him when after the 6 year timeskip. when mamura and suzume were together it was all cute but it didnt actually get me excited all they did was blush and it felt like another cliche love story of 2 highschoolers

I wish it ended happy like that. The thing is, I feel SO DAMN BAD FOR SENSEI, BUT I'm really glad the manga ended the way it did because 1. it wasn't cliche. 2. I didn't expect it (forreal, i guess im slow cuz everyone else expected it xD) and 3. Mamura in the end deserved her more.

Yes. I completely agree! In the end the biggest obstacle of the manga wasn't overcome and that really bothers me about the storyline. The reason why it didn't work out between Shishio and Shizume was because of society barriers and that was never resolved... It's like Mamura was an escape route. (Also I have a feeling the mangaka was told she HAD to end it at this point, so she had to rush the ending..and Mamura happened to be the most popular at the time) if the manga was given more time I think a Mamura ending would've settled better with me, if we were given a chance to see more of Mamura and Suzume's relationship building, and a clear pivot away from Suzume's feelings for Shishio (and even Shishio moving on?).
But seriously, with this amount of time left to publish the manga I think a Shishio ending would've been better (especially after Mamura says to her face - you STILL love him!! =_=) but nope, popularity and society barriers won in the end. (I'm not degrading her choices, I'm just suggesting I expected better). And in the end Shishio loses everything, sigh, what a tragic character.
yea and in addition to that most people seem to hate Shishio....just why? Aside from confronting someone's ship he doesn't have any reason to be seen as such a bad character.

I shipped those two so hard and when I found out the author ended up having suzume choose mamura, I cried... I feel like along the way of this manga, more and more people began to favor mamura, so of course, when the endings finally came, the author was sort of "forced" in a way to make mamura be the "chosen" one, which could also explain why the ending felt extremely rushed. I believe that the author actually planned for suzume to choose shishio during the middle of the manga because there was so much life and color between the two of them while I feel like there was only awkward/shy/realization between mamura and suzume. But with shishio and suzume, there were conflicts, breathtaking moments, heartaches, struggles for the fight of their love, happiness, confessions, etc etc. but of course, the author was forced to swerve in her direction of the plot to satisfy the growing mamura fandom. It really sucks for her to have submitted to the majority because there could have been a much deeper meaning to this manga rather than the message I got when suzume chose mamura, which is that you gotta choose someone your own age and not fight for something you cared so much for by letting it go. I do think mamura is a good character, but he makes this manga so dull and it loses some important messages such as fighting for something you love and going against society by doing what makes you happy.
Ok, I hope you enjoyed my little spiel. I just got so pissed off at myself for becoming too engrossed into some stupid love triangle with characters that aren't even real ...... ;_;
I agree with you SO MUCH. I've just accepted that if the Manga was serialized as a josei (Manga for older audience) it would have been suzumexshishio endgame. I totally agree that she changed the ending. No matter what she has to say to us, either she changed it or shes a poor writer. She is definitely not a poor writer, she just left things open for so long. I can kinda understand it from her perspective though because she's mangaka who needs fans and profit and she needs to stay in business, she has to cater for the fans who are buying the magazines. I hope she writes a josei for another magazine someday. she's better at mature relationships.

I know this was a year ago but I have to say it xD. I am a Shizume shipper (forever T_T) and I feel the ending was definitely rushed in some way but not with the main love interest. Shishio and Yosano's relationship brought both of them too much pain and problems, on dates whilst with Mamura, she was way more relaxed. The mangaka did a good job of building up the characterisation of Shizume to create empathy (TOTAL DESTRUCTION) for the audience when they realised it couldn't work out. It's about moving on. There was always a distance between Shishio and Yosano that couldn't have been fixed.
I get what you mean about the deeper meanings behind it but the manga is in fact extremely realistic, which can be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. So, upon reading the ending I had to suck it up and accept that Mamura was a better match for her, he was more mature than Shishio and someone Yosano could really fall back onto without worry.
BUT DARN IT I STILL TEAR UP AT READING CHAPTER 47;;;; AND I CAN'T ACCEPT SAMEJIMA X SHISHIO IM SORRY
I'm a Mazume shipper, but I just have to say that the manga can be interpreted very differently. Even though you think the manga ends up proving that social barriers and age difference can't be overcome, to me, it teaches that you can move on no matter what, even if it's difficult, and that love isn't about receiving but giving. Suzume herself said that Shishio was her daytime shooting star, but she also said that she will be Mamura's. Shishio taught her how someone she loves can make her happy, while Mamura taught her how making someone she loves happy can make her happy. It's only about a person's preference of pairing. It's how I interpreted it, and loved how Mamura and Suzume evolved. I just felt the need to explain why I ship Mazume ^^'
The author is right to choose mamura to be her true love..because majority in japan is against a teacher and student relationship even in some other country they have strict regulations when it comes to teacher and student relationship.
I am so glad I'm not the only one who thought that the ending should have been different. Even though Mamura changed his personality, Sensei was always such a nice guy with Suzume and the others since the beginning, I really think the ending should have been better, and that the endgame should've been Chun chun and Shishio, I actually cried when a knew that Suzume would end up with Mamura, I don't see what's so special about him, don't get me wrong I like Mamura but u could really feel the connection of Suzume and Satsuki
Now I'm going to just pretend that Sensei and Chun chun end up together at the end so I don't cry

@@nhatthanh4070 yes, that is true, there are lots of ways to look at the situation, but in my opinion if she really wanted to be with him she would've understood that everything he did was to protect her and at the end Shishio couldn't take it anymore bc his love for her was bigger than everything else. Honestly I think that if a longer period of time had passed after what Satsuki said to Chun Chun I would understood the situation more, but it actually wasn't that long. But I mean what can I say she's her own girl, lol she's not even real but anyway ¯\_( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)_/¯
And it really depends on rather u empathize more with Satsuki or Mamura, and u probably already noticed which one I "prefer"😅(I like both but..)

6 years later....and my heart burn so hard when I’m thinking about the end it’s make me feel cry again and again, I feel so so sad for him, he really deserved better, I really can’t understand, why she chose Mamura, I don’t hate him, but she just fall in love of him in 5 chapter ... it’s look so illogic, she was in love of Shishio since 70 chapters .... ( sorry for my English) and I think Suzumé’s uncle is largely responsable..., the weeding scene make me feel so bad, like suzume is happy, but Shishio look so nostalgic, when he say « you look happy » and full of regrets, im sur he is happy for her but I can’t be ok with this end .... and I really really hate the story with the neighbor, when he kiss her 😭 it’s maybe égoïste but I just want suzume happy with Shishio and Shishio happy with suzume, and not with another person 🙁the name of the manga is « « my daytime shooting stars » not « Mamura » or something like that, it’s so illogic ....

Harumi Chikako i know how u feel.. this totally broke my heart into pieces 💔.. why does have to end like this, i thought at the end when she went to the hospital she did it because she was very worried about him cuz she loved him soo much 😭 but, she rejected him... and also i feel very disappointed at the extra chapters where there is this girl who became shishio's neighbour, i just dont want them to like each other. and the sushi neck tie, he treasured it which was friggin sad.... and also when shishio saw chun chun a few years later and said "you look happy!" to her, that was very hurtful.. ik he probably was very sad
I've seen people saying the author had planned to make Suzume to be with Mamura in the first place, but honestly they didnt show much of the relationship building between the two and instead focused more onto Shishio and Suzume. While logically, I think Suzume choosing Mamura who could let her go for her happiness even though it's not him is great, there was already a lot going on between Shishio and Suzume that I can't help but root for their relationship.
Some people interpret the manga as first love don't always work, and how you can always move on to someone better. And it is true that while with Shishio, their relationship is vague and unsteady, with both sides having to hold back because it's a forbidden relationship. But I feel like they could've make it work if they got more character developments. They were both unexperienced, because despite Shishio having a relationship before, it was one where it didn't last long enough to make him "adult" enough for Suzume. I wished the surrounding characters could've helped their development too.
Also, the ending with Mamura felt way too rushed. Suzume and Shishio haven't really broke it off, but somehow Suzume is already with Mamura. I was thinking that maybe the heartbreak would've made it so Mamura and Suzume would have more developments before getting together but nope. The author also tried to tell us that Suzume's feelings had started to change after their break up but it really doesn't feel that way. And most of all, Mamura felt like a second choice and not the one the author wanted Suzume to end up with. I think he was very outshined by sensei in the manga.
All in all, with the way it is now, I just can't genuinely be happy with the ending because seeing sensei is painful. I do have second male lead syndrome at times, but it just doesn't work out for this manga.
I can't accept the thing that chun-chun is with mamura!

I feel really bad for sensei I mean when he lied to her nd said that he didn't love her anymore nd afterwards he sits at the bench nd says "I do" nd also when he saw yasano nd mamura going home together nd says "seriously" it just broke my heart to see him getting hurt like this but even when they were together their relationship felt heavy ( if u know what I mean) like both of them were a bit uncomfortable as in yasano in a disguise nd shishio felling guilty as yukichi is his long time frnd nd also their "forbidden" rltn nd also I really felt bad when even after 6 years he treasured the sushi tie but yasano threw the box given by him after a week they broke up nd also I feel bad bcoz tsubomi hurt him too nd then yasano as well (not intentionally tho) I think he is the kind of guy who give thier all for love u know I really liked his personality as well nd also felt bad when it was so easy for yasano to move on nd it took him a lot of years to do the same nd even in the end I couldn't picture him with the manga editor😅
Everything aside I think that yasano nd mamura's rltn felt "light" (u know) nd i really like mamura as well he is kind nd loves her truly so I can't say it's wrong of them to end up together but even so I feel bad for sensei
O nd also in the end when shishio said that if she really did love him she would have never gotten out with mamura in the frst place(something like that) and said it was a loosing battle .it just really hurt me to see him like that .he really did love her😭 he is such a sweet person

that ending wasn't logical. I know love is never logical and I shouldn't compare the "loves" but I will regardless. Comparing the way Suzume acted while being in love with Shishio with the way she acted around Mamura, it should be clear who she loved more. That is the reason why I'm so mad, I barely saw any indication of her having feelings for Mamura, it looked more like pity tbh... and besides, I always thought of mamura as a jerk. I never thought he was actually kind. I didn't like him one bit.

Whaaaa Mamura is totes kind. He's just not good with de ladies. Suzume kinda taught him or helped him get used to being around his and therefore Mamura truly deserved Suzume. But on more serious terms, Shishio Sensei did have a good relationship with Suzume, but I still ship her with Mamura because I don't know why... They have a more fun relationship I guess.
If you're still angry I suggest you watch Kaichou wa Maid-sama to help all that anger wash away😊😊 I love Usui Takumi and Ayuzawa Misaki!! The perfect match! It's not really a love triangle too, mainly based on them two, so you don't have to worry about the relationship swaying hehe.

I'm always in two minds about this end. Btw, I'm rooted for Sensei. He's really complex and realistic character, maybe the most one in shoujo manga that I've ever seen.
First, I understand why suzume chose to be with mamura, cause in real life it's rare that we can get back to the one hurting us. That makes this manga more realistic to me, to some extent. Mamura is a good guy, always thinking for Suzume.
But the part of me still want Chunchun and Sensei be together, cause they are really perfect match. Sometimes I relieve myself that in the end Sensei find Samejima(she'cool, i like her than Chunchun), but seeing him hurt for 6 years make me like... uwww. Why the author has to make him suffer that much ( it should be 2,3 years, not 6, really ridiculous). Btw, though I get Suzume's decisions but I think that she doesnt love Mamura as much as Shishio. Their lovestory seems kind of lame, with Suzume trying to do some couple things with Mamura. The end was kind of rush, btw. And I hate that some fan of Mazume just hated sensei cause he broke up with Suzume, though it's not his want and he also hurts himself. If Shishio's decision was narrow-minded, why not talk about Yukichi, when he does not give Shishio any chance to prove his love and forces him to break up with Chunchun. In my opinion, it's also a false decision ( though it because he is trying to proctect his daughter). Sorry if I was getting aggressive
I really love your comment - thank you for your thoughts. Even after all this time, I honestly think that the mangaka left it open (even for herself) until the very final chapters. If we weren't supposed to care so much about Shishio lying about his feelings, we wouldn't have been so roped into his story, and even with his ex as well. We honestly shouldn't have known or cared as much for Shishio, because the writing would have needed to be geared more towards Mamura. I understand Yukichi's concern, and I don't blame him to be honest, its perfectly believable the way he acted. Have you watched the live action? I think the live action handled the storytelling better actually. You can see that there is a swing towards Mamura pretty early on. I was fine with a Mamura ending with the live action. The manga ending just kills me haha xD

I legit thought thats where the manga ended but then there was another chapter that came out a while after and I was like okay (because mangaka usually draw them at their wedding and stuff) but no. It wasn't over and completely ruined me ;_;

wow 6 years ago- i read this manga last month before 2021, and its really bothering me i can't accept the ending- this is too much.

Since only the people here might understand my feelings, i'd voice out my thoughts once and for all. Had yukichi didnt interfere with shishio and chunchun, everything could have ended up fine. i know the set up isnt really good for shizume but if yukichi just considered shizume's feelings, they could have waited for the "right time" and conquered everything in the end. I have nothing against mamura but it really feels like he isnt THE ONE. Shishio is Chunchun's daytime shooting star and that's what made up the story so i dont get why Shishio has to be the losing person in the end. Sorry for saying this but to me it seems like chunchun just chose mamura coz everything's comfortable and easy with him unlike with sensei with their age gap and all. Chunchun clearly loves sensei more than mamura so why does it have to end up like that 😭😭😭 and i also hate the fact that when sensei told chunchun that he didnt love her, chunchun just let herself get broken without thinking why sensei would say that AFTER EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED, AFTER SENSEI TOLD HIM THAT SHE'S ALSO HIS DAYTIME SHOOTING STAR.
And to all the people saying that mamura deserved chunchun more because sensei hurt chunchun, well bitch sensei just did that (EVENTHOUGH IT'S OUT OF HIS WILL) because he thinks that it's the right thing to do for chunchun (although it's not THE BEST for both of them). He's probably thinking that if he was to continue dating chunchun that time and quit teaching, chunchun will follow her and he will end up controlling chunchun's life like that. Ofc he didnt want that to happen because he wants chunchun to enjoy her youth more than anyone else. In the end it was sensei who got more hurt by the decision he thought was the right thing to do. I will not invalidate chunchun's pain, but it's just that sensei felt the biggest suffering out of all of them and yet he has to be the one left alone, chasing chunchun who chose to move on instead of facing the feelings he still have for sensei. Im still sad and i dont think i could ever get over sensei's heartbreak. He found his own love after 6 years of sadness but it's still a shame that shizume didnt happen. It was shishio who chased chunchun from start til the end, and i will never shut up about the fact that he deserved chunchun more because chunchun loved her more and that's the truth (im sorry mamura)

It still hurts so much to know that this ain't the ending. This was beautiful! A perfect escape for fans of Suzume and Sensei. At least Sensei has found a new girl to develop feelings with. Ahhh, I love you Mamura but really, Sensei was the BOMB.

In starting when I read this manga.. I must hv been the craziest fan of SHIZUME but as time passed by N Sensei only trying to protect himself from any kind of discomfort or spoilage in his reputation made me Loose interest in him !! I feel that in this manga reality is shown where the girl eventually falls in love 2nd time N moves on .. ! If only sensei would have been little quick N confessed his actual feelings she would have ended up with him .. Bt I'm happy for Mamura N stil love this video .. ^-^

only watched the live action and liked it but im pretty sure the manga gives much more details and i could root for the teacher. from one side it’s good that it wasn’t cliché but idk who in the manga deserved her better.
I agree, I think the live action did a better job at setting up mamura as the endgame. It's paced better in that way.
Wish that there could be a second or continue of the story where suzume grows up and the relationship between her and mamura ended because she still likes sensei :'(

I feel like I've seen or read this manga before so I read it and currently on chapter 60- when chunsuke rashly run to mamaru's house; and I feel like she will really end up with Mamaru. The time when chunsuke ask sensie if he loves her(He lied that he never love chunsuke), I was so angry to sensie but i understand why sensie did that,maybe because of their age gap or how will the society view that kind of relationship. Seeing this video (uploaded 4 yrs ago 😮) it makes me feel sad. Ugghh! I hate this. But am gonna still continue reading this manga. Suzume and I are kinda same. I had crush to my Professor- he is a prof. in my department and teaching major subjects. Since my major course is in line with my prof. teaching probably we will see each other again. He is still single. 4 yrs is our age gap. I made him as an inspiration in my study. He also wear glases and he's also an anime lover/otaku. I love his calm eyes which makes him cool. But he doesnt know my name. Well, i think he doesn't know most of the student's he handle and i think he's not interested in names at all. He's interested in your scores in quizzes and exams, that i'm sure of. Well, I just admire him but I hope it will not go farther cause when I look him in the eyes and speak to him- I can't find words to describe why my heart beat so fast. Maybe it just normal. Hahaha

I love this AMV. I do think 15/16 is too young so I just imagine her to be 17/18 in the story. I wish Shishio didn't lie about not loving her. I wish he was honest and said yes he loves her when she asked. Then say but we can't do this because of our age gap and because you're my student. He should stop flirting and leading her on but she would probably have stuck with him because she knows the reason now. Treat her like a normal student like everyone else. Then they get together when she is 19. She only decided to move on and give up on Shishio because he said he didn't love her. I'm not convinced he likes that manga author at the end. Seems like he's trying to get with her just to move on because you can see he still has the sushi necktie Suzume gave him when after the 6 year timeskip. Even her last date with Mamura at the aquarium, her mind was still searching for Shishio

I had a similar experience with a boy, he was kinda mu first love too, i confessed to him on Valentine's day to which he ended up being speechless, the next day came he acted like it was nothing.
In the meantime i had a boy bestfriend who knew bout my crush ,he helped me confess and comforted me after i confessed,coz IT WAS MY FIRST CONFESSION.
Me and my boy bestfriend were kinda close, we're on thay level of telling each other our secrets,whispering into each other's ear,and other things.
Days after the confession i moved on with life,and kept being friends with my boy bestfriend...
The last day of school came.(In the school bus) Some of my girl bestfriends forced my crush to tell them his crush, i was there when that happened, I was ready to accept that I wasn't the one, i bowed down my head and tried to block the conversation out.
Then the school bus came to a stop at a 7 eleven, we were celebrating the last day of school there. When we were inside, my boy bestfriend started acting strange, in the middle of the food stalls there i stood alone with him, I was looking for some decent delish food to eat, the space was narrow,i continued with my business when i had enoush with the unusual silence,i spoke the first syllable of hello when he suddenly hugged me ,it caught me off guard.
