I've been bowhunting nearly 50 years and harvested many mature bucks. What has helped the most in recent years is putting out cameras and letting them collect data for 6 months plus over a couple of years. Then, I look for seasonal movement trends such time of day, bedding locations, and changes in travel locations. For example, one camera showed that one really impressive rub was done by 9 bucks of all sizes in one 8 hour period and not visited again for nearly a week.
I bow hunt public in a big woods, no agriculture, mountainous area. Very few opportunities to drive and look around or glass areas because the topography and forest cover blocks you, mostly it's all the trees. Still trying to figure this phase out. It hasn't worked out yet, but I might walk very slowly near thick stuff and then glass. When I see a buck with a doe, then I can setup on the ground for their possible exit routes.
Awesome video great clips from some of your best sitdowns. Btw i think many many decent hunters still holding a ticket needed to hear these insights this time of season
So I have this traveling spot I've been sitting a few time during rut and I keep seeing little bucks like 2year olds 4pt and 6pts .. why am I only seeing the little ones where are the bigger bucks and why are they not traveling this same travel as the smaller bucks ??
Oh yeah, hunted all weekend and didn’t see one buck. Previous weekend I seen a ton and missed a giant (misjudged yardage by 11 yards). Hopefully this weekend I put a big boy down with the 7mm. Good luck on opener
Lol I'm in New York and hunt in Pennsylvania also.. it's all done lol 0ct 21 it was on fire in Pennsylvania and new york. I've had more big bucks on camera this year in New York cause of the snow last year...
Here in SC I have a few new bucks coming in... I'm hunting does bedding now. Don't forget... in a week from now, the bucks will return to their summer bedding.
I’ve noticed big bucks that are in areas with plenty of does don’t have to compete for does they come to doe bedding areas and push the doe back to HIS BEDDING Area and will do so until he has to search for a doe out of the area and it’s in a spot where there’s not a lot of trees ~Ron
Absolutely 💯 % I live in a tiny state and the doe to buck ratio (as seen on cameras) if you don’t find his specific bedroom location, it’s not normal to see big deer cruising. Younger ones yes! Hearing a mature deer work a doe in heavy cover and you hear them taking steps in a small space
Here in the north east Massachusetts area I, and other friends have seen very, very little rut action, the bucks have disappeared from cameras have not seen any of them on food floods no idea what’s going on anyone have an idea
@@M4RK3D91 ya it’s been very weird I’ve had 7/8 shooter bucks on camera pretty consistent up until 3weeks ago and they’ve all disappeared & this is on private land
I suppose everyone has a method to their madness. I know I sure do. I'm very methodical on why and how I approach each phase of the rut. Anymore if I haven't killed one prior to our Indiana gun season, I reposition alot of my cameras into areas I assume pressured bucks will move into, and let them run during the gun season. After gun season is nearing an end, I start checking those cameras and put a new plan together. As far as lockdown, I try to key on extremely isolated, small patches of cover in the middle of nowhere. I have stands hung in these areas just for that purpose. But, everyone has their methods
Historically I’ve seen the most overall buck movement early nov but I’ve always seen/killed my bigger bucks 12th to 22-23rd

Hunting in va, I've seen way more chasing around Thanksgiving . Have hardly ever seen deer chasing early November

Always interested to hear what strategies guys are using this time of year. Great video.
some of my best hunts are right around nov14-18 i just love November. I see more deer in November around the 10-15 than 1-10 most years ( in Ohio )
I am patiently waiting for new late season content and tactics!
bar to bar we've all been there great
Great video guys keep it up. Goodluck to all of us.

Chad: Get yourself a round deer.
I’ve been hunting for years and I’ve never seen a round deer. Lol
Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.
I hunt new York State and there gun season opens on Saturday

I hunt southern Missouri and the hardest part about rut hunting is firearm season starts during the middle of the rut.

I’m scouting Francis Marion area, how bout ya?
Hunting SC as well. Nothing this morning, but a couple small does too far for the bow. Saw quite a few nice bucks about a week ago though.
what if there's a stand you shouldn't hunt during that phase but the wind is right for that stand is right
14:21 doe with FAWNS, not yearlings. This myth needs to die.
agreed... a yearling is a 1 1/2 yr old deer
Get that Buck !!

I’m in western mass. And I’ve seen some new scrapes. No camera on it tho. But seems like rut is slow this year
