Chile - Pinochet resigns as army chief

Chile's former dictator, Augusto Pinochet, resigned as army chief on Tuesday (10/03) after 25 years in the post. Pinochet, 82, handed over the post of army chief to General Ricardo Izurieta in a ceremony presided over by President Eduardo Frei and attended by 5,000 officers and troops. Pinochet, however, will be sworn in as a senator for life on
Wednesday (11/03). His appointment to the senate has angered many because of widespread abuses during his military dictatorship.

I would very much like to see someone like General Augusto Pinochet who will take over power in my country, Poland with the help of the Polish army. I'm sick of my Polish politicians who put my country in debt that we won't pay it back even in 100 years. Even Polish communists in the seventies did not get into debt as much as in the last 30 years for the so-called democracy. And I have experience of political parties that divided my nation into hostile tribes. Democracy is the stupidest system in the world.

@@scarredable Singapore is a good model to follow. The problem is there must be compatibility in the nation. And as I said, political parties divided the nation into hostile tribes. Some people will always vote for this party so that the other won't win. In my personal opinion is that the country should be ruled by a Dictator or a King. Who will, after his death, give power to his descendant / son. Because he will care to leave the country to his descendants in good condition. And under democracy, politicians only think about winning the next elections which boils down to constantly indebtedness of the country in order to give people social benefits so that they can elect them again.

Y los derechosos le siguen prendiendo velitas. Pinochet hizo casi todo mal xd. Lo único que rescato es que nos salvó de una tirania comunista, nos dejó una buena Constitución y supo lidiar con la inminente invasión de los 3 países vecinos. Saludos

@@scarredable Al contrario, hizo casi todo bien. Es fácil criticar décadas después no estando en el momento, porque la mayoría de los "errores" fue por haber actuado en la lógica militar y no en la política, como por ejemplo que se debió entregar los cuerpos de los extremistas muertos en combate y sometidos a proceso por cortes militares, en vez de haberlos hecho desaparecer. Por lo demás, entregó el poder en la forma que la constitución lo establecía, y respetó los resultados. Los herederos de los culpables de la crisis del 73 se demoraron tres décadas en socavar el modelo y corromper a los mandos.
Mea Culpa de los políticos de derecha, que prefirieron mantenerse en el poder corrompiéndose recibiendo sobornos, en vez de trabajar con las bases, dejando la puerta libre a ideologías de izquierda. Saludos.
