The only thing that bothers me just a little is when Carla Gugino is the heart patient, it seems she is imitating Daryl Hannah’s character in “Steel Magnolias” just a little too much. From the hair style, to the southern accent (which she does phenomenally,) to the shyness and insecurities she has. It really doesn’t matter, it’s just an observation. She is knocking the leather off of that ball!

I'm not sure it was on purpose, but when Mark Hamill is investigating the burned bodies, there are a few moments where his silhouette looks like a plague doctor (which was one of the ghosts in Bly Manor). He is wearing the long coat, wide brim hat and glasses, and his mask looks like a short beak.

I love how Mike Flanagan consistently brings back actors he’s worked with on previous shows. I think it really helps because the more they all work together the more cohesive the projects become due to them all having great rapport together.

Not only actors, but also the haunted mirror from Oculus. You can see it in the background when the siblings are sitting at Verna's bar. And that's just Fall of Usher. He places the mirror in basically every single movie and series.

All u have to do is dig deep & find that courage to ask for help. That's literally always the hardest step. Ppl do not comprehend how much strength it takes to just ask for help. Because unless they themselves are suffering they have mo comprehension & everyone always ignores that. Ppl just think it's simple & it's most certainly not. So plz trust me from the bottom of my heart if your suffering just pull that last bit of strength u got & make a call & find someone to talk to. Until that time, I don't know if you believe in prayer, but I will pray for you cause it very much sounds like your comment is a cry for help. And I wish I could help u more , but u will be in my thoughts dear.

one of the craziest facts about this show - to me - is that Bruce Greenwood, who plays Roderick, wasn’t actually the original actor and was recast when the show was almost finished already (due to allegations with the original actor that was immediately addressed by production, thank god).. meaning pretty much EVERY scene with Roderick (like 50% of the show) was reshot to perfection at last minute, which i think goes to show even more how incredible both the actors and behind-the-scenes staff are.

I love how Verna gives them each an out. But it's not ANY out as you'll see as you proceed. It's not just "stop and leave" it's kind of appealing to their decency, to their better, human side. But they just........... can't help themselves.
Also, yes, Carla went from "that girl in Bon Jovi's 'Always' video" to one hell of an amazing, versatile actress. This is her show.

But to put credit to your point, the youngest were also the most recent to join the family and therefore are the ones most “desperate” to prove themselves, leading to all the agression at the older siblings.

Inspiration: The Murders in the Rue Morgue, considered to be the first modern detective story.
Detective Auguste Dupin attempts to solve a double murder at a home on the Rue Morgue in Paris: Madam L'Espanaye has been mangled and her throat severely slashed, and her daughter Camille strangled and stuffed up a chimney. The room was locked from the inside, with the only clues being a bloody straight razor, tufts of orange hair, and two bags of gold coins. Witnesses claimed to have heard two voices arguing: one Frenchman, and one voice in a language they didn't know.
Dupin deduces it was not a robbery gone wrong, as the gold was not taken, and since no one can agree on what language the second voice was maybe it wasn't a human voice at all. Whoever murdered the women needed to have insane strength and agility to have killed the women and then escaped out the window, and based on the orange hair Dupin realises it was an orangutan. He puts an ad in the paper asking for info, and a sailor comes forward to admit that he brought an orangutan back from Borneo, but it stole his razor and escaped. He chased it up Rue Morgue but not in time to stop it climbing into the house and killing the women. The voices the neighbours heard were the sailor and the orangutan.

They might as well go ahead and put Carla Gugino’s name on the Emmy now!
And I’m waiting for the SAG (if the strike is over by then,) Awards to see if they get nominated for Best Ensemble Cast. Honestly, all of the Awards it could be nominated for is really up to the PR group. “Penny Dreadful” was just as tight as this and it only got one nomination (Best Actress in a Limited Series - Eva Green,) because of lack of PR. We need to see more commercials, more advertisements in the trade papers, etc. With this cast, Flanagan has put together a dream team. I mean for him, the moon is in the 7th house, and Jupiter’s aligned with Mars.
Can’t wait for the next one, guys!!! 🍋🍋🍋🍋

If the stupid awards ppl would ever get over their ludicrous obsession of completely ignoring the horror genre. I honestly don't think it will ever happen in our lifetime. The only ones that ever get nominated are ppl like Anthony Hopkins cause he's on the actual list of actors that put all that crap together. And don't get me wrong, of course his turn in silence of the lambs was amazing, but no one ever wondered why that movie. Yeah horror will never be acknowledged & it's a true crime to our future gen cause let's be real, horror is so much more. It's drama, it's story telling & writing, it's bad a.. acting. Horror has everything. Drama is just blah drama. Comedy makes u laugh, but why no category for best horror/sci-fi when they acknowledge 2 of the other genres & completely ignore probably the biggest grossing genre in the world imo. Awards are jokes.

Just something interesting I saw somewhere about this show, Verna is an anagram for Raven... Edgar Allen Poe had written a poem called The Raven. I think she's just a super natural entity that deals with fate, destiny, and even death.... They are given a chance for a different path, but they certainly don't have any other destination. Sadly most of their fates were sealed before they were even born by dear old dad and auntie.

I think it was Hitchcock who said it.

Now don't take this as a swipe at Ryan; I still love my AHS. HOWEVER, I do think that Mike tends to write for and utilize his actors better than Ryan does. I can only think of a couple of seasons of AHS that I'd stack up to USHER, and I'm still hesitant to do so.

In my opinion, this particular episode is *far* better than the original story. The original story was just dumb to me from the first time I read it as a kid. Why would a orangutan (a very calm animal) use a razor to murder a lady, and how would they know how to slit a throat? Not to mentionthe eyewitnesses reported hearing two people talking but the 2nd voice turned out to be the orangutan--how could someone mistake a monkey screeching as talking.
The whole story was just utterly ridiculous, and I feel this was a far better adaptation. It changes it to a chimpanzee which is far more aggressive and dangerous, and makes sense why an angry chimp would even be there in the first place.

Pym has pretty much the same appeal as Shades from Luke Cage. In a realistic crime story, he'd be this super unstoppable badass, but he has the bad luck to be in a supernatural horror story instead.

I know it's been a minute since you've seen a monsterverse film but have you considered reviewing Shin Godzilla? It's a 2016 film with a reimagined godzilla that's a little bit more sad then normal and it's more realistic/real world based in terms of how the humans deal with him.

Kate Siegel should be a HUGE star!! Not only is she stunningly gorgeous, she has such a huge range!! She is a completely different person in every role she's in. Theo from Hill House was cold because her tactile psychic abilities made her shut herself off from the world. Camille, however, is just a savage of the business world. Her disconnection from the world is due to her selfishness and ruthlessness, a true narcissist.

I've seen Hill House, Midnight Mass and Usher and all are well acted, written and directed. For me Midnight Mass is the best, then Hill House and last Usher. Usher comes in last because out of the main characters there is only one or two even remotely likable ones. In Midnight Mass, there was only one true villain and that was Bev! Everyone else on the island you loved or like or at least felt sorry for. Usher has pretty much none! I only wish that Bev could have suffered each one of the Ushers deaths. She got off too easy in Mass!

This is just something fun I never picked up: Verna is an anagram for Raven. As in Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven." Not a spoiler, it's never brought up in the show. Also, something else to note, I don't recall if you guys brought it up in your other reactions, but the Ushers are like the Sackler family. Last random fun fact that's not a spoiler, but fun to notice, is that Roderick's boss's name is Rufus Griswold. That's the same name of the guy who tried to destroy Edgar Allan Poe's reputation. This show is FULL of non-spoiler easter eggs. I love how each episode is like a different Poe story and some have poem pieces!

Did you know that Carla Gugino's villain Verna is a anagram for Raven. She is actually a demon who used to be the Angel of Karma so it explains why she could shape-shift to the raven to a beautiful woman and come out of nowhere and change her looks, clothing and style and accent.

To the second guy from left who said that he doesn't like "chimps and monkeys". First of all, chimps are apes just like humans (we share almost 99% DNA) and all the torture that humans put those innocent apes through are unspeakable. They get poached in the wild, the babies are brutally taken from their mothers (who get killed in the most horrific ways trying to save the babies) and get sold to the black market as pets. The few that survive will have a terrible life full of trauma and depression. They will be kept in small cages until their death or until they get killed. We destroy their habitat, they starve to death, we experiment of them. These extremely intelligent and gentle creatures get subjected to the worst and then, there are people with the IQ of an apple that sum it all up with a "I don't like chimps and monkeys". Education is key, animal cruelty is an illness.

      @thisisnotausernameXD ปีที่แล้ว

Chimps are not gentle creatures. Bonobos are what you are thinking of, as are other great apes in general but chimpanzees are actually pretty violent in the wild. Chimp on chimp violence happens, there is documented evidence of it. Chimps are definitely affected by habitat loss, poaching and captivity, so protection, conservation and education about the situation is necessary. But chimps being violent, stronger than humans and so human-like does make them terrifying to a lot of people. It's a legitimate fear or at least dislike.

Stopped watching after the first episode.. Sadly it didnt grab my interest and i was getting very boring Bly Manor vibes from it. Hill House was amazing, Bly Manor was a good love story but a horrible horror show. I get the feeling House of Usher is another let down.
