I have 7 mini pc,s now i5 to i9 nuc and minsforum ,there really only good for office pc,s ,and they do a great job at that without having a huge tower taking up space. If someone is a game crazy person just build a big full size computer simple as that.
Very true you are better building gaming rig if you game a lot but even now the new Radeon 780M does really well with some games on low settings and low res.
I clicked on the video because of the Amiga shirt. The Mini PC is useless with its Intel chip that's only good for thermal throttling and poor igpu performance .
we just got a SER7, and this thing out of the box is amazing. doesnt blink even on heavy load, games are smooth, no freakin noise. and great price. wtf?
Considerations Before Purchasing This Computer: Firstly, the cooling system is a notable concern, as the fan is not sufficiently effective in dissipating heat. This limitation results in the CPU being thermally throttled to approximately 35 watts, leading to reduced processing speeds. Additionally, despite the CPU's compatibility with DDR5 memory, this computer is equipped with DDR4 RAM. This is a significant factor as DDR4 is 50% slower than DDR5, potentially impacting overall performance.
Hi, This is really really very Good explanation. I have one question: Can I upgrade the RAM, if yes then how I can upgrade AND do the heat sink works properly or I will need a extra heat sink to apply externally. Thanks Kushal
skimping on the cooling like this without the size and weight constraints of a notebook, i just don't get it does geekom hope customers just read "i9" and go and buy it? thanks as always for the review chris 🤙
I knew there is something amiss with an i9 on this size of a unit. Turns out they use exactly the same parts on their i5 CPU variant, changing nothing on the i9 variant. I believe the ASUS ROG ally handheld console can go up to 45 watts, some x86 gaming consoles can go up to 55 watts of TDP. you are right about having undervolting in the bios settings as Intel/AMD use plenty of power where it is possible to use less.
But turned out to be too small. Speaking of gaming consoles I'm waiting for my 7840U version of the GPD Win Max 2. Which be be my mini PC hooked ip to my screen and on the go PC.
I almost purchased this unit, bit very glad i watched your review. I'm debating purchasing thr Asus pn64 with the i7 12700h processor. That one comes with ddr5 ram and should have more bios support.
@@BumpNrun69 I actually scored it big. I found an Amazon open box pn64 for $400. After 64 GB of RAM and and 2 TB hard drive, I have $684 into this beast. Runs amazing.
Hi Chris, did you check the thermal paste of this mini PC ? it seems to be a problem as Smoorez showed. Thermals seem to get much better after applying new paste
2 issues: no DDR5 RAM and no HDMI 2.1 port. Otherwise, great for programmers and finance professionals that want a home setup. Add in an LG 27-inch QHD monitor.
Thanks for the amazing review. Why not choose the Topton version of this? It has DDR5 RAM but I am quite curious if it will have the same thermal throttling issue.
Ordered it again hopefully it ships out! We take about 2-3 weeks then i'll cover it. If you never see it it's because there is still no stock and they will cancel on me.
@@Techtablets That's great Chris!!! Looking forward to an amazing review! I just added to cart something similar from Topton but with a dGPU (RTX 3060 12GB, so I assume this is the desktop GPU version). However, will check your review first.
iI bought one a couple of days ago, and it constanbtlky crashes and tries to repair its self, taking sometimes hours (if your lucky) to do so. Basically all you get is a black screen. . I have lost over £700 on this. Its a disaster. I can't recommend it at all.
I am looking for a mini pc for youtube video editing. Obviously nothing professional grade. The and overall prices are appealing to me. Dedicated fullsize units are way out of touch with my pocket book. How would something like this work for that purpose?
I've been emailing Geekom support for 3 months now for a crapped out fan - I wouldn't recommend anything geekom unless you are ready to put with a fight for replacing crap parts
Dear Sir, Thank you so much for your wonderful video and explanation. I was thinking about buying this mini pc, and I needed a sincere opinion about it. If it is possible please, could you recommend to me a mini pc that I can use for 3D Cad design purposes (Inventor, Solidworks), programming purposes and gaming (probably the maximum I would like is a good emulation of ps3, not something so sophisticated). Thank you so much in advance.
Glad I could help, well for those needs the Iris Xe and more with this limited thermal and power design you will experiance some poor performance with 3D. Your best bet right now is one of the Ryzen 7X40HS units with Radeon 780M graphics if you want a small unit. But ideally a dedicated GPU is the way to go not intergrated.
Hello TechTablets, I need some advice. I am sending back my IT13 i9 because of the outrageously loud fan (Is this normal for this model? And having no access to the UEFI BIOS mode to change it, believe me I've tried to access this but there is no tab where it should be?) For the money what do you suggest in any brand you've tested and have lived with that is a better alternative? Thanks.
Hi did you see my video before you bought it? Well the fan is loud and mentioned along wit ha sample in this review. Better alternative is the UM780 XTX I'm working on now.
No just DDR4 sadly, but I did buy a unit from Aliexpress with the 13900H + DDR5, it's barebones so I will use my own RAM and SSD. If it makes it through customs I will feature it on the channel.
I could via TB3 but it still is quite limiting would be better if it had two PCIe slots so I can connect a m.2 oculink to PCIE GPU. Yes Iris Xe is about half the performance here of the 680M or 780M from AMD.
This looks like a unit that could have been really good if they designed it better in many areas, but instead it is very meh design with a very meh result. Yeah, nah, try again!
Awesome! Thank you for always including a Linux portion in the review!
No worries!

At least my shirt was good for something! Big Amiga 500 fan I am, as for the mini PC yes, not so great.
we just got a SER7, and this thing out of the box is amazing. doesnt blink even on heavy load, games are smooth, no freakin noise. and great price. wtf?
Yes mini PCs are getting a lot better thanks to AMD's Zen4 and the new RNDA 2 graphics.

Yes and yes using the Core i9 as the selling point. But then it's throttled to 35W TDP only.
Great review! so many details. love it

Yes just a simple chipset swap and they knew the cooling wasn't going to be able to handle it so capped it at 35W instead of the standard 45W.
@@Techtablets sad. the size is amazing for an i9

Yes!!! Same here. I google and search aliexpress daily for that one. That chipset plus an oculink eGPU will be so good.

Powerful than my PC lol.
Oh :D
Locked down bios is a dealbreaker.

Yes 4k120hz would have been good and DDR5 ram boost the performance.
TechTablets ! , Thanks Much !.......
You're welcome!
I would love to buy the faster AMD w/graphics but I NEED the SDL slot so this may be the one for me.
How is this different from the System76 Meerkat mini PC 13th Gen Intel CPU 2023 ?!
Wouldn't say have not tested that, but this has more cores. 1360p max with that and then this is the 13900H.
I see@@Techtablets
the mac mini cant even handle cooling efficiently what made you think this thing could?
Please can you do an unboxing & review of the TENWAYS AGO T. It's a new City eBike that looks incredible for the price.
I hope you're keeping well. 🙏
Okay I will try! If they send me one i'll certainly cover it. Thanks for your support!

Hi all, what is the best mini PC for video encoding 8k
One of the 780M Mini PCs with the 7840HS or 7940HS. OR one with a dedicated GPU like the Minis Forum HX77G
Would it be good for CAT / architecture workflow?
I just wanna know if these things can adequately edit 4k video in premiere pro lol.
The newer Core Ultra 5 125H and 7 155H and 9 185H chips can! And so can Lunar Lake.
What about if you got this and then a good egpu to plug in for gaming? Would like this for work
Its size is really dragging its performance for all its raw processing potential.
Sure is really needs a larger cooler and then run 45W at least with DDR5 RAM not DDR4.

Intel chip has become non compatible with AMD on gaming, but still okay for normal task. The thermo throttling are a very big issue.
Yes for normal work loads it's great just not 3d work or gaming.
I am looking for a mini pc for youtube video editing. Obviously nothing professional grade. The and overall prices are appealing to me. Dedicated fullsize units are way out of touch with my pocket book. How would something like this work for that purpose?
Yes if basic light video editing, anything that's 4k and quite long clips you'll still need something with a dedicated GPU.
Chris, are you planning to review the Pixel 8 Pro?
Yes I bought one to make a camera comparison & maybe a review if it's not a throttling mess like my 7 Pro was.
I've been emailing Geekom support for 3 months now for a crapped out fan - I wouldn't recommend anything geekom unless you are ready to put with a fight for replacing crap parts

Could I plug in a LEPAI amp (+speakers) into the headphones jack?

It should be yes.

I'm guessing the issue is the graphics card prices...for 12gb $1000😅
Yikes you cannot even turn on the virtualization technologies by the looks of it. That's a pretty big con.
Yeah not available.
i9 being so capped that scores on cinebench are lower than an i5
Yes with that 35W TDP and throttling...
price of mini pc is more than a laptop with th same power.
Similar yes.

The design is fine and great it has room for a 2.5" drive but then the cooling design is meh yes, but able to handle only 35W not 45W.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

all minis are way overpriced!
holy this is impressive
Yeah but....
after watching the entire video not so impressive.
Yes sadly thermal throttles, DDR4 and lower TDP set. It could have been so much better.
