Hi Nick, Thank you so much for your reviews of Edelkrone's Motion Control Units... I'm just waiting for mine to arrive. I have an unrelated question. What is the iphone teleprompter set up you are using?
Hey Nick, thanks for the review -- one of very few out there. There's three questions I was wondering if you could help me with. 1. What does the target-ground mode do? 2. Is timelapse panning in the autopan mode possible? What's the minimum degrees/second? How slow can you get this thing to go to complete a 360? 3. Can the target module only be aimed straight forward, horizontal? With your tripod set up as you have it, what if you wanted to target something on the ceiling in front of you, or do a close-up on an object on the table a metre in front? Is there any way to have the module tilted downwards or upwards before it starts to pan? Thanks very much for your help!
Great Questions! 1. Ground mode is used when you are NOT using a tripod. For example you place the slider and the Target rig on a table. Keep in mind that the SliderPlus will only get half of the available slide if not used with a tripod. 2. Yes time-lapse panning would be possible. The Target's slowest speed in autopan is .1 degree per second. So if my math is correct, a 360 degree rotation would take one hour. Plus you can set Target to rotate more than 360, for example 720 degrees, or more! 3. First you need to have the L bracket that Edelkrone makes for the Target. I tested your question by targeting a light on my ceiling that was in line and 6 feet in front of the SliderPlus. I had to set the distance to a negative value to make it work, it did work but the subject was hard to keep centered. The issue is that the distance changes allot when you slide towards and away from you subject. To address your last question, Yes you can have the Target's motorized head pointed in any direction you want before you starts. When it asks you to "SET TO 0" use the joystick to direct the head to your starting position. To have it pointed up or down you will need the L bracket.
very cool. have you tried setting up a feature to continuously repeat back and forth like the one man crew slider? Also do you find any noticeable jitter or shake in the camera when shooting on a longer lens like a 50 or 85?
Yeah, I have set it up to continuously go back and forth. Its very easy to set up and repeat. I haven't noticed any jittering or shaking, I did some shots with a 50mm on a Canon 70D and they turned out great.
Great review Nick! Perfect tutorial! I went to the website to purchase that set up, but was a little confused on what all I needed to buy that exact set up. Is it possible to list the items purchased for that exact set up? Thanks in advance for your time!! :)
Hey Rick! To get all the Edelkrone stuff I use in this video, you only need to purchase three items. The Edelkrone items I have in this video are: 1. Edelkrone SliderPlus v2 medium size (any size SliderPlus v2 or SliderPlus Pro will work) 2. Target Module w/ Canon LP-E6 Battery Bracket 3. L Bracket for Target Module Other stuff you need (probably have) Tripod Canon LP-E6 Batteries
thanks a lot Nick, do you know if the slider plus v2 combined with the target module can operate in vertical position or it works only if the slider is in flat position? thanks
In this video I have a shotgun mic straight above me pointing down, so the mic is almost pointing at the slider. This would be a worst case scenario, most of the time the slider would be used further from the subject, and you wouldn't point the mic at it. Now, if you are recording audio using the cameras on board mics, then yes the sound might be picked up by the camera.
I just got my Target module and am seeing the head not move for at least an inch when starting my move down the SliderPlus PRO....are you seeing this with yours?
The Wizard motion control unit does not support time-lapse, but if Edelkrone makes a time-lapse motion control unit it should work in conjunction with the Target module. I for one will be very excited to see a time-lapse unit, but I guess we will have to wait and see.
yea they suck for that. but they did tell me they were coming out with a time lapse unit. guess they figure more money or something. they say most people dont use time lapse is why they didnt add the feature to the target smh bull!
i was planning on getting a slider and the target and they came out with the heavy duty slider pro or whatever... do you think its worth the upgrade if i have a bmpcc with a few accessories? was going to get the biggest slider thanks
The SliderPLUS Pro offers three things that I can see, one is the ability to carry a heavier load up to 22lbs for the large size, second the PRO has more adjustability on the camera carriage for fine tuning the slide action, and third a slightly longer slide 2.6ft vs 2.9ft. My opinion is that if your gear doesn't exceed the 9lbs capacity of the SliderPLUS V2 Large, then save the money. Although buying the PRO would allow you the use of bigger and heavier cameras down the line. Personally I love my sliderPLUS v2.
Bro thank you for this awesome review. I have both the target and action module and I had no idea how to use it. Appreciate your time and patience
And... we can't wait for your video on craft module Nick! :-)
Me too!
I love this unit and the L bracket is a must to purchase with it

great review. what tripod are you using here? This slider with modules gets quite heavy, do you find it handles the weight ok?
Hi Nick. Great review. Quick question: Is the Target Unit controlling the focus on the lens?
Congrats on review! Excellent! Could you talk about Time lapse using Edelkrone gear? All the best, Red

That's great to know, thanks nick i really appreciate you getting back to me on this so quickly. Cheers

Nice video! I wonder how the focus works with the target module, Do you have to use auto focus from the camera?
How loud is the motor when the unit is tracking? Can only just hear it in your video but not sure if that is down to microphone placement. Cheers! :)
With the rubber belt do you still have free motion to do manual slides when you want?

Nick, YOU'RE AWESOME! Thanks for responding! I will let you know how my ventures with this kit come along! :) Thanks again!
thanks a lot Nick,

thanks
Yeah, it totally works in both the horizontal and vertical positions, or on an angle.
nice! was hesitating to get this but my konova wobbles a little so i just might. is the sound of the motor loud if you record audio?
In this video I have a shotgun mic straight above me pointing down, so the mic is almost pointing at the slider. ah cool. now i see the difference between the target and action module :) have you tried them in tandem?
Hi @nick homrick, does the unit goes back and forth on a loop cycle?? without action unit?
I just got my Target module and am seeing the head not move for at least an inch when starting my move down the SliderPlus PRO....are you seeing this with yours?
Great review. Gosh, this thing would be so awesome for time lapses. Pity it doesn't support that. I feel like they missed a great opportunity.

hi, may i ask which tripod you would suggest for a slider that gives a range of 4 ft on a tripod.. and which tripod are you using?
Can you do pan/tilt timelapse with only target module or you need both ?
which tipod do you use? comes nicely low down..
i was planning on getting a slider and the target and they came out with the heavy duty slider pro or whatever... do you think its worth the upgrade if i have a bmpcc with a few accessories? was going to get the biggest slider

is this piece of equipment still available at edelkrone ?

Great product, great demonstration although some Test Footage would've been great. =/ Cheers!
Oh god it is too noisy even in manual mode ! Kessler crane is still the king
it sounds alot :(
