Das älteste bekannte Rezept dieses Kuchens stammt aus der Spätantike und wird von dem aus Ägypten stammenden und in Rom lebenden griechischen Poikilograph Athenaios in seinem Buch Deipnosophistai (griechisch: Δειπνοσοφιστών), oder auch Buch XIV genannt, erwähnt. Er beschreibt das Koptoplakousrezept aus Kreta als einen Kuchen, bestehend aus mehreren Schichten, der mit pontischen Nüssen, Mohn und Mandeln gefüllt wird und anschließend mit Honig übergossen wird.       Meist wird aufgrund des Blätterteigs die Herkunft in Zentralasien vermutet. Charakteristisch für die nomadische Lebensweise der Turkvölker dort ist die Schichtung von in Pfannen gebackenen dünnen Teigfladen, die sogenannten Yufka, welche in dieser gestapelten Form weder in Byzanz noch im Nahen Osten bekannt sind.[2] Die Grundstruktur könnte somit durch jene nach Anatolien und in den Nahen Osten gelangt sein.[3][4][5][6]

    Congrats for your video! I just found you and subscribed to your yummy channel 😋. If you allow me, that's a piece of knowledge: baklava comes from Greek antiquity but was very popular in Asia Minor, the Greek population around Constantinople (today Turkish Istanbul) since Byzantine empire of Greeks [occupied by Othoman empire in 1453], that's why is common in both countries. Difference is that the Turks make it with pistachio, Greeks with walnuts. Both versions are great. The syrup is made with honey, sugar, water, cinnamon and cloves! 😋😋 Also the other pastry's name is galacto- boureko, which means milk (-y cream) in a wrapped fyllo sheet. The syrup again is made from honey. The custard in it is thin semolina flour. Thank you for this tasty video 👍😋 Greetings from USA

    Hi! I’m thinking to head to santorini on the last week of January. May I know what was the weather like when you were there? Was it very cold? Would you still recommend going there in Jan/Feb?

      It was quite gloomy on one of the days and had really good weather on another day. It wasn't that cold tbh probably just needed a t-shirt and puffer during the nighttime.
      It really depends on what you're looking for if you want to visit during Jan/Feb. It's really quiet and alot of the shops close so you definitely lose some convenience and vibrance. On the other hand we really loved it cuz it felt like having the island to yourself. if you're looking for the vibrant vibes that you normally see during the summer peak season then maybe it would be better to visit a few months later. Hope this helps!!

    We are contemplating going to Santorini in the winter time since we will be in Athens. Your videos are so helpful! What would you say is the best way to get to Santorini? A plane from Athens versus the ferry?

      Thanks for watching our videos!! The plane is much quicker (under 1 hr) but more expensive while the ferry I believe takes around 4.5hrs. So, I guess if you want to make the most of your time and have the money for it then the plane is probably the better option 😊

    I’m going to Santorini too during off shoulder season, do you recommend renting a car to go around the island? I heard the bus does not run as often.

      Yeah we rented a car and the freedom to go around was so amazing! Highly recommend doing so

    For your information baklava is not a Turkish invention. Dating back from Greek ancient times, mentioned by Homer...Then adopted by the Byzantine (Greeks) and later taken over by the Ottomans.
    So it is originated in Greece not Turkey.

    Honestly, if you ever go back and want the best gyro’s in Santorini, go to Lucky’s Souvlakis. Soooooo good!!

    True. Many of the dishes eaten in greece are also present in Turkey, Persia, and the Levant.
    They are not solely Greek or Turkish. They belong to those lands. Which have exchanged hands numerous times. Hitites, Assyrians, Persians, Greeks, and lately Turks.
    Greece has had three empires on those lands (athens, macedon, byzantium) and has been conquered a few times themselves as well (persians, ottomans, venetians, tuscans)
    Which has made Greece and Turkey, culinarily blessed.
