That right there is how to do a tutorial. No annoying music or time wasting fluff to start the video, clear annunciation, great content, short but informative... Nice job Michael, thanks!

Just got the 70D crash course DVD video in the mail. I have been shooting for over 8 years and I learned some fast easy ways to get the shots I was looking for from this video. As a new owner of a 70D and new to DSLRs in general I have to say this is the best tutorial regarding auto-focus that I have seen. In 8 minutes I now feel that I understand so much more about these settings.

Thanks Michael, I bought the 70D and I shoot birds with a 100-400 as well as other types of shooting, and other lens. I get beautiful results. my kids also bought me your video for one of the holidays, if anyone needs more basic information that that, they need to go back to a point and shoot in my opinion.

Got this canon dvd with the camera for my girl, ended up watching it 4 times my self, must admit there's so much info it's crazy but anyone who thinks it's a bit pricey for a tutorial you're in for a surprise, it's not just about camera, it's about everything you need to understand what it takes to shoot a great fotos, best DVD I've seen hands down.
Congrats, amazing job and looking forward to purchase more tutorials

I just picked up a 70D kit......my first DSLR! I figured it was going to take me months to wade through the manual and figure out all of these settings and menus. Based on this video, I purchased your "crash course" DVD download. Thank you so much! After just one run through the video, I feel like I know this camera thoroughly now. You have a knack for showing the meat and potatoes in a clear and concise method, while not straying off the point you are making. I recommend your training videos, and will be ordering the one for Canon flash units soon!

Its only day one and we have a long way ahead of us to learn this sophisticated camera. Thanks for sharing your tutorial with us, I know this will help get us started in the right direction. (PS what a eye opener in how far cameras have come since we stopped using our Canon FTB all manual camera) ;-)

I have had some occasional random soft focus issues with the 70D, but I have had my focus mode set at AI Focus most of the time thinking it would give me flexibility. I am going to try One Shot for a bit and see if there is a difference. I rarely use screen view for stills; may try that to after watching one of your other videos. Thanks for the insights - clear, concise, and informative.

at 6:20, how are you moving the focal square around? I turned on the AF point direct-selection, but then what button are you using the move the focal square? The only button that I can get to work is to push the top right button on the back, and move the wheel by the shutter button.

I'm gonna try these things the next time I shoot.
I bought the 70D around 9 months ago but due to the season I haven't been able to test it properly until now and I've felt like screaming and crying each time I had a look at the pictures when editing... It's such a huge differens between the 70D and my old 550D when it comes to focusing and I really hope this will give me a chance to get back on track. Haven't been able to feel proud of any of my sports pictures since the purchase in august.. Keep your fingers crossed :P

Thank you so much for posting this video . I was so frustrated with going from a t5i to a 70d . I was reading my manual so much that all of the instructions were getting jumbled up in my brain . I am more of a monkey see monkey do type of person . I blame it on ADD . I can read something over and over and it doesn't sink in until I see it done first hand . I pretty much ruined my friends wedding photos by using my 70d without understanding how the single point focus worked on it . on my t5i it was much different . I only had 2 days with the camera before her wedding . . that was a huge mistake on my part . I should have just used my t5i and waited until later to try out my 70d . she didn't get the fabulous shots I wanted to get for her but she did get enough to have decent memories for her album . I am now your #1 fan . Thanks again .

    Hi Michael,
Your my hero I bought the 70d and there are just to many things which I didn’t (and don’t) understand. Obviously the AF was one of those things. Also thanks for the tips, great work. One thing I’m still not sure of, is how and when to use the four AF’s (AF live view/ FlexiZone’s/Quick). A tried but it didn’t do much different. I would buy your Crash Course, but I prefer it in Dutch because I am afraid that I will be lost in the technical stuff. Anyway thanks again.

This is a great video. I've had my 70d for a few months and was convinced I had a "lemon" after everything else I was reading about the camera. I had a Rebel DLSR for years (and film version before that), so definitely wasn't my fault, right? Well, after watching this video and practicing, turns out I did have a lemon--behind the camera. Thanks again for all this great information! It's really helping me to take my photography to the next level.

Great stuff Michael, thanks mate - just a quick heads up on Custom Function II when setting up the 'Continuous' option. On my 80D it was not found on Page 10 as shown in this Tutorial, I eventually found my option on page 13 of 16 page options. I noticed on your Camera it was showing only 13 pages. If people watching this are stumped like I was by not finding things as shown on page 10, this would be the reason. I suggest they scroll through their pages to page 13 instead, where I located that same setting. Cheers!
