@joezava8257 I know YMO, and I know italo, I also know Cluster, etc. I own these records. Riot in Lagos does not sound ANYTHING like Planet Rock. You're funny. Sounds like you been watching too many documentaries.
It's now 2021 I'm 45 And I'm a 80s baby who have vivid memories of the summer of 1983" age 8 at the playground with the older teenager's as soon as somebody come with a boom box and play music like this it was on I remember the older guys playing basket ball would stop playing ball and come and watch us breakdance lol before you know it the playground would be full of people and it would be from songs like this at that time was ahead of its time and then came 1984" And the rest is history🎶🎶🎶😎😎😎
This young generation need's this. Classic Master Piece. Every element of this track was beyond it's time and off the charts. Long live the days' of Hip Hop ! Classic Originality rose from the ghetto's of New York City.
1982!!!! this sweet sweet sound came out! good times and great memories. they don't make music like this today. today's artist can't hold a candle to this.
Im 18 yrs old I love old school rap nd gangsta rap my fav rappers are bone thugs n harmony nd all I gotta say is fuck my generation in rap nun is better come pare to 80s nd 90s rap is the best:)
A little story about this tune.. A friend of mine has one of those mega sound systems in his car and we was at a show this one time, he was playing your typical drum and bass bla bla. Anyways i got hold of the stereo for 5 mins and lets all have a guess what i played.. yeah i don't think i've ever seen so many people gather round one car so quickly all trying to find out the name of this absolute beauty haha! im only 26 but i was one of the lucky ones that got introduced to this music from a young age as my father was a dj at a club on an american air base here in the uk back in the late 80s early 90s :)
Arthur Baker/John Robbie were electro 808 pioneers of the 80s There was also another brother around at the time called Juan Atkins AKA Cybotron,he was just as famous as Baker/Robbie,putting out obscure electro funk from his own record label,Clear/Techno city were 2 of his hits,he did just as much as Baker/Robbie for electro music but probably doesn't get the kudos he deserves
I hear you, bro. If Soul Sonic Force's "Planet Rock" was the Chevy version, then Planet Patrol's "Play At Your Own Risk" was the Caddy version with meaning and emotion for the girl.
Escuto essa música desde Agosto de 1983 e estamos em 2024. É a música de Break Dance mais querida no Estado de Goiás, juntamente com Bambaataa. Planet Patrol arrebenta. Lembrando do compositor Arthur Backer

in the fall of 1982, most of us were 16 years old, i first heard this instrumental version on tape :-) For us over in Holland this was one the Import tracks from the US compiled on a SA90 TDK tape....Some of us were tired of hearing the music the clubs..Arthur Baker amongst others, made the difference :-)He created the backbone for this track and recorded Planet Rock and Play at your own risk in just one single night..

@miller4th502nd Thanks for this! My Pops brought this home befor I was aloud to use his turn tables. This was the first track I put on when I could. I left the original vinyl single at a friends house in 1983 maybe? Never seen or heard it again, not in its entierty, until I found this post. THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!
I have to this day STILL the original cassette copy of the LP a friend of mine has.I knew that I would have only one shot at it,so I recorded it on TDK'S MA-90 and Dolby type C noise reduction. Now,more then 30 years later and thousands of play-backs later,I'm still jamming to this same cassette tape.ANALOG FOREVER!!.
This is DEEPER than the much more popular "Planet Rock" by Afrika Bammbaataa! This is the BEST early Eighties Electro track, in my opinion. Followed by Kid Frost-Terminator (Instrumental).
Can remember buying a copy of this compilation (21 records) back in the day - then gettin home and playin the living **** out of it! - On the record as well as Planet Patrol was Jonzun Crew and Bambaataa & Soul Sonic Force - This track was and still is one of my all time favs - top post!

The little keyboard hook that starts at 1:30 is for me the single element in this song that just makes it one of the best ever.

The pioneers of the Roland TR-808:
'Planet Patrol'.
And 'Afrika Bambaataa and the Soulsonic Force' _...YEAHHH, BOYYYYY!!!!!_
Credit has to go to Arthur Baker and John Robie, they are the true pioneers who produced this along with Planet Rock.
