I know found family can't always be as easily found in rl as in fiction, but this is one of many reasons why I think platonic relationships need to be treated more as seriously as one is often expected to prioritize their long-term romantic partner and/or blood-related family-members who shouldn't have to be our only sole happiness especially to avoid or get away from toxic relationships when we cling onto people not worthy of our love.
Phoebe was the whole reason I even considered to watch the show in the first place. Also, Living Single was the prototype for Friends and it was a hell of a lot funnier too!
Our Flag Means Death is such a great show to use for a video on this subject. Found Family is such a major theme in it, now the OFMD fandom is FULL of found families!!!
i am phoebe. my friends are my family. and one of my friend's family has basically unofficially adopted me into their fold. they love & accept me more than my biological mom. it's unfortunate but ive found peace and happiness over the years because of my chosen family.
Your found family members might not be friends among themselves and might only have you in common, so don't aspire to have a gang like it so easily happens on the screen. Your chosen family is probably just as scattered as any other family and that is ok. You'll just have to work a bit on carving out time for everyone.
@@maliciousanddelicious I don’t know that it’s a Hollywood experience. Feels like normal life to me. Just because a lot of people don’t have it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
@@signalfire15I think it's just, there are some people who really are alone, and that's (in a bad way) normal for them There's also enough people who have had that experience. It can be hard to build connections even for the normals When someone is missing a friend group, they may not yet know how to make maintain relationships yet If someone is mad they feel alone, that's probably an indication they need help 💁♀️
After spending many years without a friend in the world, I found a vast community and made a number of connections that became found family to me. However, due to a series of unfortunate events, ever growing tensions and split loyalties, I've ended up totally alone again. This has left me feeling far too jaded to want to meet new people and potentially find a new family one day. Obviously, I knew nobody was perfect. But there is a limit to the level of disappointment and betrayal that I can take before I wonder what the point is anymore.
I'm very sorry to hear that 😢 Yeah friends are tricky. Not every animal lives in groups for that exact reason. When we are vulnerable and open up to people we make ourselves quite open to things like betrayal and hurt. It's part of the deal I'm afraid 🤷♀️ One of the hardest things a person can go through is being on the outside. Like, how do you get back in if you don't know what got you exiled in the first place? How do you get a job without work experience? 😕 I dont know you very well, so I can't speak to you about your experiences. But if you ever see me, and you can always find me here ❤, you can say hi 🙂 I'm a big mom at heart ❤, I could never see my big guy get left behind 🫂
As someone who has changed country twice, I understand how difficult, exhausting and challenging can be to put yourself out there but deep down you know it's worth it. Think about what you did wrong in the past, ask for feedback and keep on trying until you find family again. I promise it will happen. Keep on trying, you deserve it and you owe that to yourself
"The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb." Such an accurate quote, and just goes to show that your family doesn't have to be biologically related to you, but the people you choose to have in your life.
I found my sister friend I met her twenty years ago and we lost touch but fifteen years later she moved into my apartment house 🏠 and we are family always 😂
Just wish my Fav Found Family - the Best Friend Squad from ‘She-Ra & the Princesses of Power’ were here too 🥺 (especially once their 4th member is found❣️)
Both family and friends are equally important. One shouldn't have to take precedence over the other. And finding friends takes time. It took me a really long time to find my group of friends, especially since I have Autism. In fact, we're all on the Spectrum, so we can understand each other, and we've known each other a long time. Also, what are some of these clips? I only recognized Friends, How I Met Your Mother, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Your editing is getting sloppy, I'm sorry to say.
I love this chanel but the editing in this video is just so bad!! or maybe the choice of dialogue chosen to be highlighted. The video is great but seems that was done in a lazy way.
The problem with found family is that people are too quick to cut off biological family. Just because families disagree doesn't mean you shouldn't try to stay in their lives. For example, in Friends the group dynamic works primarily because Ross and Monica are siblings. Rachel was their childhood neighbor, Chandler was Ross's college friend, Phoebe was Monica's roommate, and Joey is her current neighbor. What if Monica cut Ross out of her life because she still resented the their parents paid more attention to him? Imagine the show if Monica got closer to Rachel's sisters and it was about Rachel, Monica, Jill, and Amy. Family IS an obligation whether blood or not. You don't get to "choose" who will be impactful to your life. The things that ultimately bind you are going to be proximity over a long period of time and shared experiences.
No. Just no. Shared DNA is just shared DNA. It doesn’t mean that the bond is there. Get a grip. Blood isn’t everything. Even the writer of that infamous quote knew that, because people lop off the last part of it. Here is the full quote: “The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.” This means that the emotional connection is more important than ANY DNA connection. It actually makes the argument for CHOSEN family over that which you are born into.
Even if your blood family are toxic trash who make you wish you were dead and your friends are wonderful souls who make you glad to be alive? Actually, don't answer that. Please.
What about adoption? What if find yourself orphaned as a young adult? What about cases where family isn't safe, as in thise where subsance abuse or physical, emotional, or even sexual abuse? Family is irreplaceable, but friendship can save you from despair.

our flag means death being here is so special to me
I miss when y'all would put the name of the show or movie on screen with the clip. Sometimes i wanna look into the examples y'all are showing
I just loved Phoebe’s arc on the show. She was simply the best ❤
But they never told her she CAN'T. SING. Why? Because it would hurt her feelings? Not just that...they are scared of what she would do.
@@RedDragonM1She can sing. Not conventionally well, unless she's sick, but still.
....better than all the rest

Thank you for featuring Our Flag Means Death in this! Such a great cast that is a found family off-screen too.
Even Rick and Morty pulled off the found family theme with a family that's still technically blood-related
