It should include damages for screwing up your flight ✈️👍

I think that if you miss a connection the airline should refund the first portion of the flight that lead to the missed connection, in addition give guaranteed hotel room stays (set it up in advance when the flight is delayed so the passenger doesn't have to), provide seamless transport from the airport, to hotel, back to airport and from airport to their destination. AT THEIR COST. Otherwise we can start letting airlines go bankrupt and see some laws change that enable foreign carriers to operate between American cities for American citizens. Making prices DIRT CHEAP.

This doesn’t go far enough. Should charge airlines 10x fare for cancelled flights that is not weather related.

Crazy! If this happens, all the airfares will go up like crazy to cover these potential payout.

Relax. Unless you wanna pay double the fare so the airline can cover those loss expenses 😂. Thats how this works

the paradox here is that the airlines monopolize travel routes so they hold all the power. regulation is logical in theory, but in reality it'll just justify the airlines increasing prices further. for ex. - gas prices go up by 50%, they increase rates by 60%. cutting non-profitable routes? no sweat to them, you'll pay extra for a longer flight with a layover now. I don't expect regulation to have a positive impact.

Airlines will just raise fares to make up for losses they have for what many times is beyond their control.

it's nothing, a useless rule, but better than nothing. When a flight is delayed, say you're stuck for over a day, a refund is the least thing you want. Because your trip maybe delayed, your connecting flight maybe considered as abandoned, your hotel booking is lost etc..... to merely refund the ticket is not nearly enough to compensate for time lost.

Nothing free. While it's good for airlines to have accountability, increasing rates for potential refunds. Airlines want profits like everyone else.
I'd assume weather is the exception?

The problem is excessive profits. USA corporations used to make reasonable profits but now make billions every quarter.

This could be another Butt-a-jet's last ditch effort in an election year for all of his other failures. Until I see the actual rules, I think this may create more problems and headaches than answers. If your flight is delayed/cancelled, a simple automatic refund won't solve the problem for MOST people - you still need to get to that destination. I am a frequent traveler, and I think the industry does NOT need an auto refund but a law that allow consumers to request refund if desired. For most consumers that buy tickets months in advance on sale or with discount, a last minute refund of the sale/discounted fare won't get you anywhere when last-minute fares are much much higher. The industry needs to automatically cover lodging cost, local transportation cost and meal costs up and until you are reaccommodated on an alternative flight. These should be offered as a first line solution. If these solutions are not available, then consumer should allow to request refund on the spot.

Not American so I was curious at your comment that PBs a failure??
I don’t recall hearing much of anything from the previous admin on infrastructure other than they promised it “in two weeks”.
Everything was in”two weeks”””!! A healthcare package, new infrastructure., etc.
But as I recall nothing got done. Nothing proposed or passed.
So why is he a failure?

@@imisstoronto3121 That explains why you are not an American. During his administration, there have been more transportation related mishaps than previous admins combined!!! Yet, he goes on vacation and extensive paternity leave. Don't forget the current admin's own official was going around in the country stealing luggage from the airport. It seems you are quite disconnected from a lot of ongoing issues. The current tarmac delay rules were put in by previous admin, not his. This new law sounds good but will only cause harm in the long run in terms of increased airfare.
