Thank you for showing all the different options and how the surfaces work with the inks.

Again, I appricate the tip on the Kirkland Photo Paper. You also saved me a lot of time trying out different papers. I mainly use tiles and ceramic products for my alcohol ink projects. Looking forward to doing more on paper. Your talent as an artist is very apparent! Thanks for sharing!

I heard photo paper worked with inks but none of the brands I had at home seemed to ever work for me so I never looked into buying other brands but now I have the Kirklands brand on my shopping list. Thanks for sharing your trial and errors!

Thank you for sharing this with us. It is nice that we don't have to buy all of these to try them. Thank you again.

Thank you for taking the time to show the effects on different paper! I was trying to figure out a 'less expensive' way to experiment and not make all my learning 'mistakes' on such expensive paper....really appreciate your work!

This is a great video, I've been contemplating on whether or not to buy the Dura-Lar paper so this helps me out a lot. Thanks for sharing.

Wow that was a lot of different substrates for sure! It was so interesting to see some of them and how they reacted with them. I've only ever done Yupo, photo paper, ceramic and canvas. Thanks again for taking all the guess work out of the rest of the papers you used. Looking forward to your next video as always Janelle :)

Hi Janelle...thanks for your videos ....am finding them most helpful !One more paper source I found works well for alcohol markers is poster board sheets (found at Dollar Tree) that are glossy on both sides(and are not as heavy weight-wise, as the poster board sheets which are matte on the "wrong side" I guess it is, and glossy/smooth on the other)...they both work with the markers, but the ink acts differently with each...the one with glossy or smooth on both sides-you can drop alcohol on the marker-inked parts and blow it out really well, and also can use the markers to draw-paint and go over it with a bit of alcohol on a brush(I have not tried blending solution with either yet)....the poster board sheets that are glossy/smooth on one side, and matte/flat on the other side, ...when you use the markers on the smooth side it works similar to the other poster board sheet(works similar to the glossy/glossy) but the ink on it(it meaning-the sheet with the two different sides) will not flow as well/blow out as well...and the completed results won't be quite as vibrant(seems to soak into the paper more, versus stick on top etc...)...for fun I tested the matte side, and you can get some neat results...it kinda(when you use the alcohol/brush over where you applied the marker ink) blooms a tiny bit but does not run bloom like blowing it out works to make the ink flow across the paper....I like being able to cut down the poster board to whatever size I need etc...and the glossy/glossy was 65 cents a sheet at dollar tree in Saskatchewan Canada (I'm in Manitoba by the provincial border so go over the border to do shopping pretty often, being my area lacks in choices-which is an understatement ) for art supplies...oh yeah almost forgot...I also tested parchment paper, and it was alright...did not wow me...ended up with a very muted watercolour type result to do a small scene/landscape...and found too that there was a tiny bit of shedding as I went on using it, towards the point I was completing my scene...not of the paper itself the shedding, but the waxy finish....it was small enough to gently rub it off with a q tip and did not mar the paper itself it seemed(I did not really push it by trying to go back over where it was shedding much though so ...it is ok for fun or for getting the hang of using the markers that way etc...but afterwards you do have to put a white piece of paper underneath to get the image to stand out.

Hey Janelle, do you have a list of the papers used in this video handy? Would love to reference them. It would be interesting to do a collage of different papers highlighting the different effects.

I've used gloss medium for a challenge project before. It worked pretty okay for me. I had no idea about gesso! Kirkland photo paper is on my to buy list. Amazon has several types, though. Could you put a link to the type you use? This was very informative, thanks :) btw, I loved the sketch with the sunset!!!

This was so helpful Janelle, thank you! Here's a silly question...what is the purpose of glycerine when you add it to the alcohol in the blending brush? I'm a newbie to this whole alcohol marker/ink thing lol.

Hello again Janelle, I obviously hadn't watched this video yet, when I'd asked you if you'd ever used alcohol inks on acetate. Sorry, I just didn't get there yet. I really do enjoy your personality. As far as some people doing the bad comments, apparently they do it to everyone, just ask the frugal crafter - she gets thumbs down even before her live stream starts, how can someone dislike something they haven't even seen yet. Take care. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
