    *Wow, I'm truly amazed by your dedication and creativity in renovating your garage on a budget! Your resourcefulness and ability to transform the space into something functional and appealing is truly inspiring. It's so refreshing to see someone take on a project with limited resources and turn it into something incredible. Keep up the fantastic work, and I can't wait to see the final result! Your efforts are a reminder that with passion and a little ingenuity, any space can be transformed into a wonderful haven. 👏🛠*

    At 10:59: Those trim pads are the best kept secret in the industry. They are totally awesome. One is crazy to do trim without them period.

    • @ModernRemade
      @ModernRemade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeeees totally agree! They're so inexpensive but I hardly see anyone use them. I used to wonder if they were just a gimmick but I won't paint without them now 😄

    • @CGT80
      @CGT80 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only if you have a very smooth surface, don't need a very clean cut in, and don't have the skill with a brush. A brush will give you more control with how much paint you put on and most people don't use enough. However, I started painting as a pro 25 years ago so it is second nature and I can cut in left or right handed with contrasting colors better than many tape jobs........many corners are not straight and I can compensate with a brush to make a line that appears straight on a textured surface. Use a pole on your roller and keep it wet, it should not have a noisy sound of the dry nap pulling away from the wall. You are right about brushing and rolling giving better coverage than the small airless. Nice job on the light cords. I have the same lights and plan to trim the wires after I finish the major rebuild I'm in the middle of for my garage.

    Painting tip--unless rolling in a very tight space, always extend the handle on the roller. A simple 3’ wood handle will double your speed and give you a smoother finish. Painting a full wall using only the roller is choppy, slow and eventually beats up your hands & wrist. A+ on the remodel. You really invested time in places where it matters.

    Should add some edge banding /trim to the front edge of the work surface. If it's all chewed up, you can cut a clean edge on it with your skill saw and just use a bunch of wood glue or construction adhesive. Would really polish the look.

    Maybe a mini fridge would be a good addition to the empty spot in the middle of the work bench. Also, what soldering iron is that? Looks like it distributed solder out of the end making it very easy to do.

    • @ModernRemade
      @ModernRemade  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good suggestion! I may have to do that. It’s a super cheap standard solder I’ve had for years. I just pre-soldered the cables to make it a little easier on me because I’m terrible 😅

    That's a good garage cleanup - thanks for posting. A couple of corrections and tips to help yourself and others:
    1) That "beam" @12:20 is a post. Posts go vertically, beams go horizontally.
    2) That's not how you roll paint @11:45 lol! Use an extension handle on the roller, do NOT use the roller handle like you did. Your way is way harder on the back and legs squatting like that, puts your face close for paint droplets flicking off the roller, and most importantly, ensures uneven coverage of the paint on the wall. When you use an extension handle (eg 5') you stand back from the wall and use leverage to radically reduce the movement in your arms making for much easier rolling for much longer for much less effort. It also smooths out the paint with much more even pressure on the roller and gets you well away from the roller itself for less paint spatter AND you can gauge coverage more accurately.
    3) When you roll, use a "W" or an "M" technique which also evens coverage and reduces banding.
    4) FWIW, I would go draws under the bench with foam cutouts for tools.
    5) A very cheap way to improve your concrete garage floor would be epoxy paint with flakes in it. Looks great, is very hard-wearing, and relatively easy to DIY.
    6) For the LED lighting, I would make a small ceiling hole above the fitting and feed the joining cable between lights through that. Much neater and no cutting / re-joining with solder.

    • @ModernRemade
      @ModernRemade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1. Good call out thanks for clarifying.
      2/3. Agreed! My intention wasn't to provide a painting "tutorial" so I left out a few details. When I say "long, overlapping lines" - I do not lift the roller, result in long M's and W's. I prefer this to the common 'random' style because, for me at least; it lessens the chance directional variation in the finish. As far as extensions go - I couldn't use one in this particular spot because there is another wall directly behind me. I would have ended up with more holes to patch 😂
      4. I'm diggin' this idea. That may be a winner 🤙
      5. I've considered this a few times! Call me old fashioned but I actually prefer the raw concrete look, cracks and all 😀
      6. That's another good one. I did later clean the cords up with cable clips and it doesn't look half bad!

      I love that thanks for sharing! I can say what I’ve found to helps me personally is the practice of “chunking” where I break a task into smaller parts so it doesn’t feel so overwhelming. So instead of thinking “I have this entire project/video to do this weekend”, instead I will just say “I’ll work on this for 30 minutes whether I want to or not”. Once I’m in it, I tend to get in the flow and work much longer.
      Anyway I hope that helps and thanks for watching!

    Well, the new, more extended lighting fixtures make a huge difference!! Jumps right out, in opening pictures! 1) dust, patch and paint walls, ceiling. Corner protection. 1a) Killz products for primer. 1b) Repair windows, window trim. Door trim. Paint trim. 2) vacuum, sweep, leaf blower. 3) install new lighting. 4) remove item, sort, declutter and keep only what you truly need, use. 5) repair work bench and wood shelves. Set to height for storage bins. Paint. 6) pipe column.... paint it, or wrap for decoration. 7) upgrade door knob, lever style hardware. The end.

    I think some cabinet ambiance light, epoxy floor and wall or hide-o garage utility hoses (air,water,vac,power washer?), Some creative power tool storage and charging station for lights and power ools. Ryobi make a dope garage door opener that's modular taking the power tool battery and having accessories like air, fan, Bluetooth, WiFi, just out of my budget. I need a poor man's version of that. I have a 2 car garage with little to no room to work with and two giant garage queens

    I'm way too damn lazy to manually sand. I just get a shitload of orbital sanding pads and switch them out. I of course attach the output into a Dust Deputy going into my vacuum with a vacuum bag. Works great and the Dust Deputy saves you a fortune on bags and filters.

    I love how you’re funny, too!! There’s a really cool guy (I think his logo was Carma) that turned his garage into “showroom white!” He did the floors AND insulated the garage door and insulated the walls, added drywall and even put up an amazing air conditioning DIY kit. Pretty cool! Love the blue shelving btw!
