I really don't understand it either. I guess it's just something you have to hear. They generally use polyrhythms excessively and instead of "chugging", they just hit the low string and make that "djent" sound (which I personally don't think sounds very good. Coupled with the fact that they tune to like drop G yet have incredibly trebley tone, it's just a genre that I can't really get into. I like bands that are influenced by it, and have "djenty" riffs, but I can't take straight up djent.

@metalmexicanmosh Alexi is pretty good. but Chris Storey was trained by Rusty Cooley. And it HELLA shows. Anything Rusty (Including Chris) is greater than Alexi
Really? Because it's actually a genre, defined by how they play. Every genre has a specific type of tone that's popular. It doesn't mean the tone is all there is to the genre. Also, like I said, I don't necessarily mind djent, but I'd like to see some technical metal bands stay not djent.
If Chris is happy then let him do what he wants. Asp is fine without him, francesco is a great player. To me Chris is a one trick pony, but he does that trick o so well
I think their vocalist is alright. Not my favorite, but he doesn't detract from the music at all. And I think Periphery is way overrated. I don't want to see every new tech metal band become djent.

@rustysdisciple This is a pointless argument. Those guys may be more skilled- Play cleaner, faster, etc. But after that it all comes down to opinion. In my opinion Vai makes way better music than MAB and same with the Marty/Chris situation. You can't tell someone to "pick better guitarists". Music isn't a skill contest. What sounds good is going sell. Not super fast sweeps and Scales runs, that only show off the technical ability the player has. Awesome riffs stand out more than tech. ability
