  • This video highlights the main resources I used to get my golden list of residency programs. I will go over using AMA's Freida, AAMC's Residency Explorer, and the IMG Friendly MatchAResident. REMEMBER**** these resources help you get a broad list of programs and in order to refine your list, refer to each of the programs' individual websites and use these sources including your med school's previous match lists to CROSS-CHECK these programs!*** DON'T forget to note down which programs need department chair letters when you are researching!! This process will take a while so START NOW!! GOOD LUCK future resident physicians❗️

      Aw glad you liked it! Yes, my only cut off score was choosing programs that had alteast 10% IMGs, my friends had different scores like 5% or 15% so it really depends on you but I thought 10% was good for me!

    If you still haven't done step 2 ck, would you suggest setting aside some time daily just to work on applications or primalrily focus on getting the ck score in by sep 29 deadline? OR does it not matter as much if your ck score comes in by the time MSPEs are sent out on Oct 21? Or both?

    Is it ok to include volunteer experience we had for improving the ecosystem? Like out door activities to better the environment like planting trees? Or I shouldn't? lol. It's not something made up, they have a website and documentation that I did it as I completed online application for it.

    Very nice video V!! Can you like tell me how to get research opportunities in the US for IMGs? Can you share how did you get 3-4 research opportunities?

    • @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987
      @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! The research opportunities I got while during clinical rotations were by networking with really awesome residents and attendings who had project ideas or were doing projects already. It always helps just reaching out to them and asking if you can get a part of the project. In terms of obtaining research placements in the USA, I think you'll have to just do some internet surfing to find out what's out there. There are programs that take international students for research, I have a fellow colleague who matched into my program who did a research project for 2 years before matching. She found this opportunity by research online and applying. Good luck!

    Could you explain the difference between IM categorical and primary care track? Thanks!

    • @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987
      @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This depends on what the program's distinctions of them are - some programs have overlaps so people in PC program can still apply to fellowships, same as categorical, etc. and other programs have different schedules/structures to the three years. Do your research and read about what each program states for either track and apply to which one you like better. Primary care track obviously builds you for primary care after residency, this is the goal right. Good luck!

    Hello Dr. I know the question may sound not fitting here, but can you plz make it clear to me; the oral presentation in eras publication section, does it count presentation we did in departments or class or internship?? thanks

    • @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987
      @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! In my opinion, I only put oral presentations if they were presented at a conference or if it was a formal presentation for clinicals in front of a large group (i.e. M+M conference, etc.). I personally didn't put presentation that I did in front of a few people or if they were just researching topics for clinical (i.e. if I was researching meds for cardiac failure to present in my rotation I didn't put that but if I had a formal presentation on this topic based on research I did then I would put this) - but this is my opinion.

    How to use Residency explorer and FREIDA simultaneously (in a manner where you use your time efficaciously)

    • @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987
      @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Great question and full disclosure: it takes a long time! I split up this task with a few friends I was on a rotation with during app season and we made an excel sheet where we all added info about programs that were IMG friendly for the specialty with location and other pertinent info like if they need department chair letters or not, etc. Once we finished this list, we individually used it to cross-reference with Residency Explorer to meet which ones we were ranking in that 50% and above catagories. So, yes it takes SO MUCH TIME but if you split it up or just schedule in time weekly to do this task then that would help with the process overall. Hope this helps, good luck!
