  • Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2 is streaming now on Disney+.
With the clock ticking and less than a year until the world premiere of Frozen 2, the filmmakers, artists, songwriters and cast open their doors to cameras for a six-part documentary series to reveal the hard work, heart, and collaboration it takes to create one of the most highly-anticipated films in Walt Disney Animation Studios’ near-century of moviemaking. For the first time, cameras were there to capture an eye-opening - and at times jaw-dropping - view of the challenges and the breakthroughs, the artistry, creativity and the complexity of creating the #1 animated feature of all time.
The series follows director/writer/chief creative officer Jennifer Lee, director Chris Buck, producer Peter Del Vecho, songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, actors Kristen Bell (“Anna”), Idina Menzel (“Elsa”), Josh Gad (“Olaf”), Jonathan Groff (“Kristoff”), Sterling K. Brown (“Lieutenant Mattias”), Evan Rachel Wood (“Iduna”) and the talented artists and technicians of Disney Animation as they race against time to finish the film, with both creative breakthroughs and frustrations along the way. Produced by Lincoln Square Productions and Walt Disney Animation Studios.

This docuseries really showed me how similar the process is to making theatre. All these people are working together, combining their talents towards a common goal, and making magic. Jennifer and the others' faces and emotions are exactly what it looks and feels like when people making theatre realize things are finally coming together. Jennifer saw the beauty and magic she, the actors, and the crew had been striving for up to this point. This moment gave me chills, and nearly brought me to tears because that feeling is one of the best feelings in the entire world.

This is what music does, this is the power of music. Jennifer’s reactions to when the lower string instruments hit those bass notes and when Elsa belts out the chorus are absolutely priceless! This is what music can do, it creates this feeling and emotion that will literally give you chills because it’s just so beautiful and breathtaking when it all comes together. As someone that was in band for 6 years (I played oboe!) THIS is what I wanted to do when I was younger. I wanted to be a part of the Disney orchestras that create magic for the movies, bc that’s what the music does: it creates the magic for the movie and when it’s just right, it gives you chills. I wanted to do this, and although I chose a different path I still admire these people bc these are the best of the best and look what they were able to accomplish! Idk if any of y’all have watched the series yet (y’all should it’s really good!) but at this point when they recorded this song, the production crew was having a hard time with making the movie. Production was becoming difficult bc some of the songs weren’t working and parts of the story was either not strong enough or too complex, so there was a lot of anxiety and stress over whether this movie would be a success and would do Frozen 1 justice. But when they did this recording you could tell it completely changed the entire vibe of the production. You could tell that they could tell that in that moment they knew their hard work was starting to pay off. This is the power of music and I absolutely LOVE this scene bc this shows exactly what music can make you feel❤️

So much work, thought, skills, talebt and effort are put into animated films, this is another, huge proof. People still criticize young artists for their choices. I believe in you, do what you love and try rich the top sticking to it and doing your best

Imagine being Jennifer Lee, being responsible for all those things and being the organizing brain on top of all this and now earning the reward as you finally see your product for the first time in real life. And knowing that the people you work with are doing their absolute best to make the film and realize your imagination as good as possible.... These feelings must be insane... Understandable that she had to cry!

These kinds of moments, when you hear the beautiful sounds of an orchestra live like this playing a song you love, create emotions that are so indescribable and so intense that it brings you to tears. In this case, it did bring Idina to tears, bc from her perspective, to hear her song being played by an orchestra is one of those rare and incredible feelings that you can't help but cry when you feel it. It's one of those moments that takes your breath away, like it did with Jennifer when the real bass kicked in, or make you smile like with the Lopez's when it was all finished and they knew that was the take. We could very well be watching the clip of them recording the very take that was used for the actual song, and knowing that just makes this scene all the more magical!
