    The premise of the question is flawed. Countries in the West are not Christian. The churches themselves aren't really Christian since they modify their supposed core beliefs to appeal to women. The U.S. is a secular empire. The people who immigrate here do so for economic reasons, not because one place is better than the other. The U.S. is the Las Vegas of the world.
    Edit: What Puritans, and other early settlers, believed is as relevant to modern day USA as Zeus & Apollo are to modern day Italy.
    Edit2: Obviously, the U.S. offers economic benefits over many poorer countries. But that has nothing to do with our being a Christian country nor any other inherent virtue we possess. The U.S. became wealthy primarily because we were the one empire to make it through the world wars largely unscathed. Also, our economy is a house of cards. It is only a matter of time before the federal government can no longer afford to pay the interest on its debt, let alone the debt itself.

    An important point Pearl did not consider here is the immigration policies of certain countries. Western countries are generally much more "immigration-friendly" in their policies because the policynakers believe they need immigrants for economical reasons. Comparison to Singapore and Japan is not valid here because their immigration policies are totally different and much more difficult for any outsider, so even if people want to go their, they can't. Moreover, due to globalization, people immigrating to the West find it easier to adjust as the language barrier is low. So if given a choice between English and Japanese, 99 out of 100 immigrants would go for English.

    He mentions Kuwait, Brunei, the UAE and Qatar as high GDP countries where many people go. One of the issues however is that most who go to those countries only do so on a temporary basis. This is due to both the (almost) impossibility of obtaining citizenship, the high cost of living, the legal systems and so on.
    Most immigrants to the west truly make their lives here. Also, the countries that he mentioned owe their wealth to oil. In other words, they simply hit the geographic lottery. Sure, some are now diversifying, but without oil, they would be nothing. And even when oil was discovered, it was primarily western firms-with western capital-that developed these countries.

      Westerners would make their lives in the Gulf if citizenship was offered. They would pay insane amounts of money if it could be purchased. Despite that, many westerners have tried their best to stay indefinitely. Secondly, the Muslims developing these countries through “luck” in the form natural resources is a way better look than stealing someone elses’ half away across the world through force.

    • @Aa-dc2xu
      @Aa-dc2xu หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      This is true. Tho I'd imagine way more Muslims would choose to live in the Gulf countries if they were able to get full citizenship. Otherwise, they end up choosing Western countries that already have big minority communities like England and the USA.
      Also, just my personal experience, but most Muslims that immigrate to the West come here for either economic or safety reasons (fleeing war). You'll rarely ever see a Muslim from a Gulf country or from South-East Asia in the West unless they came to study. And even then, once they finish studying, they go back to their home country. This differs with Muslims from poor or unsafe countries.

    @Pearl The main reason for settlement in the old days were finding a source of water river Lake etc. which usually had Fertile Lands and favourable climate. Enough Sunlight but not hot and dry like desert, rain but not flood, cold but not cold desert.
    Now the norms of inter country immigration are mainly Money making opportunities generally an industrial areas like London or Manchester. Or Service based like banking, finance areas like New York Chicago.
    And a culture that is easily able to integrate like western culture. People from different country understands that they can adapt to the western culture.
    For example most of Japanese citizen live in Tokyo Kyoto and Osaka. They have migrated from villages to the metro cities. Because there is jobs and the culture doesn't change so intra country immigration happens.
    But the same people are less likely to immigrate Dubai New York London or Chicago. The same happens in India where the most population are in the metro cities like Mumbai Delhi Kolkata.
