      Tbf the dialogue is vague enough that it could very well mean what you originally thought, that Ezio was surprised Leonardo doesn't sleep around as much as he does.
      If you didn't know he was publicly accused of sodomy or that he was very close with his apprentice Salai, you probably wouldn't have even known that he was gay. Leonardo kept the details of his love life really lowkey, to the point where the most that historians can really do even now is simply speculate based on circumstantial evidence.

    *Random history notes for yall: It was a big thing at the time especially in Florence. People would do it but never in public, hanging would be a consequence only rarely. Florence has lost battles and has blamed their soldiers for being to flamboyant and homosexual. It was a wealthy city at the time considering the Medici Banks grew from there. Its funny history repeats itself Rome had a similar situation. As for Leonardo, being extremely intelligent he would experiment a lot especially with oil paintings causing him to flop many projects, not manage to finish commissions he was hired for but out painted (as some historians say) guys like Boticelli who he hired Leonardo to finish a few paintings. Leonardo used to dress flamboyant as was the time of the wealthy class to do so. Historians say there is a high chance of him being gay but there wasn't a lot of open witnesses to confirm. Playing these games with historical figures can really be something special as they begin to come to life being gone for long. There are also rumours that he helped finish The duomo in Florence when Bruneschelli passed away. An example of his experiment gone wrong: Donatello, another famous artist at the time found out how to build a bronze statue which was a lost art since the Roman days, this a big event when he was able to do this. So, Leonardo was asked to make one by the duke of Milan, son of Francesco Sforza i believe of his late father. Leonardo said to him in an over exaggerated way that he will build a spectacular statue out of Bronze. His design for though was very questionable since he wanted the horse to be on its back legs which would cause to much weight and the statue wouldnt stand. His inspiration from donatellos bronze sculpture where he made a man on a horse on 3 legs 1 leg being on a sphere. Leonardo only manage to make his sculpture out of clay at least part of it when the city he was in was attacked and used as target practice for the opposing archers destroying. If I remember Caterina Sforza was in Assassins Creed and her real life story is really inspirational and bold the history here is very grand I would suggest looking into it all. thanks

    This is my favorite portrayal of a homosexuality (in games at least) it's subtle but not to the point you'd have to look really hard to notice, it's treated as simply one of Leonardo's characteristics not his whole personality, no one makes a big deal about it, it all just feels natural and realistic.

    • @fluidthought42
      @fluidthought42 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well that's the traditional historical interpretation of him, but it doesn't align completely with contemporary accounts. For one thing, Leonardo loved floating from project to project at a very disorganized pace and approach. For another Leonardo was known for being very social and affable to the point of being very popular among his peers and for being a frequent party thrower and party guest. In fact part of the disconnect observed between Leonardo and Michelangelo is that the latter wad very solitary and lowkey, perhaps even a bit asocial and introverted. They did not seem to get along very well in any way, perhaps their personalities just didn't quite vibe together all that well.
      In short, Leonardo was a very sociable man with lots of friends and with a relatively decent amount of free time on his hands at any given time, so his notable lack of marriage and children is... interesting, especially when one analyzes which of his apprentices he seems to favor keeping around and the lack of reasoning for that preference outside of, perhaps, a personal preference of beautiful men.

      @@dookiedoggy I kind of feel like I'm the only one with these particular grievances to Brotherhood and Revelations, but here goes. I feel it's the game where interesting historical settings became second to turning Assassin's Creed into a cash cow franchise, more focused with churning out a game every year than making a good game that meaningfully developed the series.
      Also, this is the game where Ezio's character decay began. In AC2, he was likable and charming, but also very flawed and sometimes made mistakes, plus he had a great supporting cast to interact with, which ranged from admirers to people who weren't always his biggest fan. Even his some of his allies didn't always personally like him or were critical of him (and weren't depicted as "wrong" for that) and it made for interesting relationships across the board.
      The other two games go out of their way to make Ezio the sexiest, bestest and most special boy ever, with now every single person with XX chromosomes wanting him and anyone pointing out his mistakes being depicted as someone we're supposed to hate. Heck, in Revelations, he causes the death of a whole underground city and gets the leader of a local Assassin Bureau killed in the search for a cure to his mid-life crisis and still at no point does the game want us to think ill of him (and portrays anyone trying to give him a bollocking for it as unsympathetic). In Brotherhood and Revelations, Ezio became the creator's pet and cash cow and it became evident just how limited his charm as a character was. Plus, to make more games with him, Desmond's story got butchered, because they needed an excuse to somehow keep Ezio still relevant to the overall story.
