And yes, the Jacques Loussier track is a phenomenal arrangement very well recorded and mastered (which I first heard from your channel). Should Eva be reading this: your music is simply wonderful and reminds me of the sweet sounds of the San Francisco lounge club scene of late 90's early 2000's (Naked Music, Blue Six, Lisa Shaw, Miguel Migs, etc.) - a very special and luxurious sound never quite found at any other time.

In the d3 Series you had to go 802 or up to have a full range speaker. Is it the same with the d4 series ? I think I can again hear the 804 sounding bright and lacking body and with.

Mooie reverb, maar wel wat veel 😃 En inderdaad, de zangeres zegt het mooi... Ik mis die sparke in de top-end ook een beetje. Zit hem denk ik ook een beetje in de microfoon. Mijn voorkeur gaat absoluut naar de 804's. Die hebben meer veel meer "sound". en zijn minder analytisch.
Bij elektrostaten krijg je altijd last van reflectie. In dit geval werkt het terug op de microfoon, wat erg lastig is zoals je kon zien bij het plaatsen. We hadden meer kunnen absorbt, maar dat heeft weer andere effecten. De zangeres had een DPA d:facto. Waanzinnige zangmic.
It would be very interesting to compare the Van Medevoort electrostatic system along with their own electronics as presented here to the QUAD Artera system with one of their own electrostats. The Van Medevoort electrostats were simply in a class by themselves here. Thank you for the presentation.
Sadly, after a week ours are being returned. Incredible clarity and detail but needs more warmth and depth at low / mid levels. We're a bit gutted. Looking now at ProAC, PMC and Spendor
Do you think that speaker sound test should be done blind ? Harman found that the speaker grill colour changed the perceived sound (green being the most neutral). Nuts but true. Also when you all talk about what you think you hear together in the room surly it has an influence on the other listener ( you don't want to seem a fool or you don't want to make them seem like one). Did enjoy the music !
Blind tests can be useful. But they have disadvantages as well. Like stress because people don't want to fail. That stress can express itself in inacurate results.

Come on Alpha Audio, you picked a pretty mediocre overpriced speaker brand and model to represent the UK (B&W 804 D4). I'm an American, so I don't have a dog in this fight. A better speaker choice to represent the UK would've been ATC SCM 100 passive. Now, a more interesting battle would be with the Danes. Those guys have some big guns. Thanks.
We have already played with ATC in another review. We never had Bowers. So that was also a reason we chose this one. Also... it's a brand new model. That's interesting for everyone, including us.

It's much more civilised than the D3-series. I think the 804 D4 is enough. It will reach 30 Hz with ease in most cases (with enough power).

I can imagine you want more warmth. But know that these speakers need at least 200 hours or burn in. And a VERY powerful amp to get the bass going.

We have already played with ATC in another review. We never had Bowers. So that was also a reason we chose this one. Also... it's a brand new model. That's interesting for everyone, including us.
