    Hey bud, no joke, get the ifootage monopod. You can hook the foot to a strap or even just take Paracord and tie a loop around whatever you have strapped to your body and run the foot through it. I carry mine with a Paracord I wrap around my back and the monopod basically sits like a backpack. Obviously that's not while also carrying a backpack.
    Anyways it beats holding 30 pounds of camera while getting the shot

    • @tankivulture148
      @tankivulture148 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stephenmckay6762 At this point try buying a telescope since it's manual focus, accepts every camera and it's probably sharper: Choose a C14 (much cheaper, 10k) that weights roughly 21Kg (47ish pounds I guess) or get another type of scope like the 406/3200 (7000$/€ but it's 38kg heavy, which is roughly 83 pounds). Another alternative, but here we go to the extreme is a planewave CDK24 (200kg or 440lbs and thousands of dollars). Obviously you want to use a good quality Barlow to match the focal length of the canon you seek

    I have the A7iv and the 200-600mm lens. I also have the R7 and the rf100-400mm. I'm carrying the R7 combo and before it the R6 with that lens everyday and the Sony with the big lens sits at home most days. I guess it's my style of shooting but I prefer the light weight and mobility over the extra millimeters of reach. Actually now I'm getting 640mm on the R7 with that lightweight lens. No problems with image quality at all. As a video hobo you will probably have some different needs tho.

    • @Philtho
      @Philtho ปีที่แล้ว

      The R7+rf100-400 is 1200g. The Sony 200-600 is 2115g alone. Crazy. (Though, to do 6.3 @ 600mm is some thiccc glass)

    I also missed out on a discounted Sony 200-600, sold out right before I got there, after about 40 minutes of testing a Tamron 150-500 in store and on the street, I bought that, happy with the AF tracking and sharpness at the long end. No teleconverter available however.

    • @bleyrad
      @bleyrad 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I went with the 150-500 Tamron too. It is so much cheaper in Canada, especially when on sale. The only real downside is that the stabe isn't great for video compared to the Sony lenses. Good for photos though.

    Again, you're spot on with your assessment. I toyed with jumping to Sony a while back, had the 200-600, really enjoyed it, but stayed with Fuji. Is Fuji "better?" I don't like asking that question anymore. Fuji is "better" for me. There's a lot about Sony that crushes Fuji, but those things aren't what I need as a photographer. And thank you for inspiring me to do some wildlife video. My first attempts really stunk, but I'm sure that through your infallible guidance, I'll be "pro" in no time... wait.... What am I saying!!! ;) Keep up the fun content Kasey. :) Affirm on the female wood duck.

    You should try Davinchi resolve stabilization use Translation and camera lock. Fusion page also has good options also, but it’s a bit more complex. Translation only uses x and y so it shouldn’t be warpy on the edges. You don’t seem to be wobbling around fast, so I don’t think motion blur will effect image quality too much.

    Glad to see you get your Lens. I'd been tempted to reach out to you cause there is a good shop in Japan that always has them for pretty cheap with high quality photo's and a good grading system. Shipping would've been a Biotch though. Also, speaking personally, I watch your channel because like myself you are less focused on technical details, and more on real world results. I have been with a camera in hand or back pack just about constantly for the past 11 years, yet my eyes glass over when hipsters try to sell me products based on the latest greatest specs alone. Until my budget increases or my channel grows to the point of getting gear sent to me regularly, watching you learn by trial, error and general feel is the closest analog to testing the gear myself. I watch Gerald undone when I actually want to know specs.

    I shoot with the 200-600 + 1.4X teleconverter on either the A1 or the A7RIV, mostly hand-held, but about half the time with either a monopod or tripod and gimbal combo. Support works best when shooting video or waiting for perched birds to "do something". Fastest shutter speed the light allows helps with avoiding shaky images. I also keep one of those rubber bulb air blowers in my bag and give the sensor and lens rear element a puff during a lens change. Nothing is as heartbreaking as coming home with every shot ruined by dust or debris on the sensor or lens.

    I just purchased this lens and my second Sony a7siii for live music video. Used it at a two day festival and it was phenomenal. Mine was on a tripod. Image stabilization hand held at 600mm let alone 900+ and having it not move is a stupid thought.
    I am for stills a Nikon dslr shooter . I love the “look” . I also like Fujifilms Xtrans sensors look also . But the Sony a7siii has a beautiful image and the 200-600 did great for me this past weekend of 7/29 & 30th 2022.

    Probably a long shot....
    Do you do mostly manual focus for the wildlife?
    Wuddabout going for an A-mount (and adapter)?
    I would imagine it is probably still decently snappy S-AF, and the optics are still probably topnotch.
    Don't know that much about the Sony system, so couldn't suggest any lens, but I would imagine there are some fantastic lenses for a lot cheaper.
    Good Olympus option like this is the
    50-200 f2.8-3.5 swd($300ish usd, mmf-3 converter($100ish usd), and ec-1.4 teleconverter($100ish usd).
    MF only in video(with all 4/3 dslr lenses), but the 50-200 swd has an actual mechanically linked focus mechanism, so you don't have to deal with the guessing of by-wire.
    Without the teleconverter the lens and adapter aren't that much bigger than the $1000 (usd used) 40-150 f2.8, which has the manual focus clutch for more like mechanical feel, but not the real thing.
    Plus the 50-200 swd is quite a bit more reach.
    Are any of the Sony A-mount lenses mechanically linked?(I really don't know, but something to maybe check out.)

    For the hand shaky footage why don't you buy a basic monopod? It's small and will greatly stabilize the footage if you just connect it to the 200-600's lens stand. Great footage though!

    Maybe some more time on the Monkey Strength program would help with that battleship lens. (Congrats on finally getting it!)

    Maybe switching stabe modes on the lens might yield better results. Also it would be interesting with catalyst browse.

    I don't feel that this lens is as heavy as you make it out to be, you may be swaying people away from it. I've had the Sigma 60-600mm, Sigma 150-600 C, the Tamron G2 and I have the Nikon 200-500. They are all heavier than the Sony except for the Sigma C lens and I have always hand held them all and I'm a small guy at only 165lbs. This lens is easier to handle than all of the others because of it's weight and internal focus, it doesn't get off balance when zooming. Other than that, great video!

    I have tested and owned both the Fuji XT4 and the new XH2s with the 100-400 and the A9ii with 200-600. In the end, I went for Sony, I love Fuji for a lot of things but unfortunately for wildlife and especially BIF and feather details, the Sony system is just better. Plus the major disappointment for me is the 150-600 at f8 I know the Sony 200-600 with 1.4 TC also end up f8 but at least I do not sit fixed at f8. Plus the XH2s is great in many ways but the AF system with the new Subject racking, in the viewfinder it looks great, on the reality it misses a lot of shots even when the playback show that focus was on the subject, it did not lock on and is out of focus. I know the fuji focus system well as I used it on the XH1 and XT4 extensively doing many wildlife trips. But reality is that it is still not were it should be. The A9ii now sell for almost the same price as the XH2s in my country so no contest really.

    Is it so much for us to ask for you to try the GH6? You know you want to Kasey. Follow your heart!!

    Speaking of colors Kasey, according to a new book about the animal sensory world, there are birds whose eyesight extends into the ultraviolet spectrum, and that some of their plumage which we see as uninterestingly bland, is actually strikingly different in that part of the electromagnetic spectrum. Have you considered exploring colors beyond the visible spectrum for us humans?
    Some camera lens coatings may filter this and certain camera sensors maybe spectrum-limited but it may be interesting.
