Nice review. I ended up here from QMD's site as they linked this video. I appreciate your objectivity in evaluating their product. Looks like they're on QMD4 now, and they took some of your suggestions: i.e. logo on the top of the unit, a more polished finish, and a more production-looking butt cap adapter. However the device still sticks out of the bottom. Thanks for your reviews. New subscriber!
I'm an APA 5/6 (no Fargo but would be equivalent to 450-550 according to Dr Dave). I literally just received a DigiCue trainer in the mail last week. Very happy with that purchase and a comparable product to this QMD3. My decision to purchase the trainer was simply out of awe that the inverter is so talented and has been working on a cue-ball with sensors inside that looked absolutely incredible. Instead of an audible fault indication the Digicue vibrates like a cellphone but not as intense. You can change the settings to turn the vibration on for success, failure, or disable the vibration all together. After a few hours of initial play I decided to turn off the vibration and just have it log my shots. A Full week of multiple hours of play daily what it's shown me is I have a decently straight stroke with good fundamentals, however fallow through and finish are consistently faulting so something for me to work on!!! The DigiCue weight is something I can feel but I'm not bothered by it as I switched cues recently and can deal with change. Thank you for this review and the great content, always enjoy your stuff, god bless.
As of today (November 15) the QMD3 is not available from the manufacturer. However, it looks like that's due to working on the version 4. It seems that the vendor has rapid development and enhancement first and foremost. It would be good to know if the old one can be upgraded?
Couple of questions, and I may have missed the answers in the video:- - Does the unit have to sit on top of your cue? i.e. It can't be positioned to the side? - Does it measure cue rotation? i.e. Firming up your grip as you stroke through? Even if those features exist in the product I think £180 is steep. I appreciate there is R&D, app build costs, and device costs, but I suspect the device is pretty much an accelerometer, a Bluetooth chip, some basic EPROM, and a battery so likely no more than £10 in components.
The QMD3 does NOT need to be positioned on the top of your cue and it DOES measure cue rotation. The software is free it you'd like to install and see what it offers. Also, it would be unwise to buy things you can't afford.
Hey there! Yes, it is covered in the video actually, but the answers are: no, it does not have to sit on the top of your cue. This is the recommended location simply for ease, but in theory it can be placed anywhere. And yes it does measure the cur rotation too (this is shown in the video on the rear view in the app). With regards to pricing, it's $180 rather than £180 (but with the exchange rates being as they are that makes very little difference at the moment!!) Sorry, but I have no idea on component costs, but I would imagine that simply buying £10 of components would not replicate the QMD3. Without the app, which likely took a lot of development time, the components are essentially useless. Like you mentioned, there would no doubt have been a lot of R&D time put into this product. Hope that helps 👍
Great video. Now that said, I hate to say it but I am not sure how many pool players will buy it. I suspect a fair amount with a Fargo over 500 might, but not the other 95%. Your typical bar and league player are recreational players. That said, I might buy one. Looks very interesting.
The beeping just too distracting, especially the beep when you actually hit the ball. It would make me freeze up immediately. Also, there's no way I would use that in the club, unless I want the other members to hate me. But if the sound feedback could be turned of, then yeah, I would certainly give it a try.
Also, you could use headphones/earbuds with a bluetooth connection to your phone when using the app so you hear everything, without affecting anyone esle 👍
Thanks for sharing, guys! Yes, the classic empty bottle is a VERY helpful and cheap testing method, but yes the QMD3 does far beyond the scope of that basic test. It's a great place to start though (and basically free!) 👍

Thank you for sharing, and glad you liked the review! Also great to hear you're loving your new Digicue too 👍
Seyberts has a qmd 4.
Yes, the QMD 3 has now been officially replaced with the newer QMD4. We'll be sure to update the link! 👍

Bad timing for the video. Everywhere is showing out of stock....
Good review though!
Glad you liked the video, and hopefully they'll have more stocks available soon!! 👍

Yes, the sound could easily be turned off 👍

An empty pop bottle laying on the table. Practice running your cue tip in and out consistently will do the same thing for 5 cents.
Did you watch the whole video? Because it goes over more than just basic cue stroke straightness that only a bottle can measure
