  • This video gives advice helping to prepare the Dungeons & Dragons T1 Village of Hommlet and the T1-4 Temple of Elemental Evil campaign. Most new DM's find it hard to pull off this module without adequate preparation. Introduction to the DnD D&D Temple of Elemental Evil series before watching Part 1.

    I liked many of your ideas, but I really just enjoyed your "thinking out loud" and hearing about your reasons for why you do the things you do. Thanks for this, I will keep checking in with your videos.

      I understand that when I present my material I try to paraphrase what I have. I try to describe my thinking behind it and how I use that information in the campaign.. I realized it would be boring just to read what I have in my articles to the camera. Thank you for the kind words.

    Yeah I did something similar with my T0 "Journey to Hommlet". There are more bandit groups operating out of various Temple ruins, which gives the PCs an idea that there are different factions within the Temple itself.

      Hey! I really like your version of the T1 module. There is so much more nuggets of info for anyone running the module. Also the art work is awesome! I would have used the art work in my video but I did not have your permission.

      @@3orcs The art all comes from old TSR modules, and is used via the Fan Content Policy. So it's not mine (except for most of the maps). But I'm really glad you liked it! I might have more coming; I've wanted to do an in-depth treatment of Verbobonc along the same lines you outline here; the original module does say there are agents of the Temple in the city. I'd like to take that and run with it. Plus do a full work-up of Sobanwych.

      My next My next 6 video's gonna be that actually. Talk about the players starting in Verbobonc city. Plots and quests how each character got to the city and what brings them together. Then off on their first mission/quest for Lady Asbury to the 1st dungeon. Ancient Suel Temple in the Fens of Torr. Then head to the Moathouse. This way I can introduce the Nobles and politics of Verbobonc. Also foreshadow some of the evil agents in the city.

    I’m curious about how deadly your campaigns are- what fraction of the initial PCs make it all the way through all or most of the campaign?

    • @3orcs
      @3orcs  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a good question. The thing is, when I describe scenes, NPC's, bad guys, monsters, spell effects, and dialog. I make everything seem much more lethal than they are. It scares the players into playing carefully. 75% of the time they run away from an encounter. Some of the players are upset at the others for being scared. This causes the campaign to take longer and get less exp. The current campaign after 24 sessions the players got to level 4. They have too many henchmen/NPC's in the group. Every session I remind them that they would get more EXP (Coin, Monsters defeated, RP exp, Quests and mission/story exp) if they cut their NPC's down to 1. Its been close many times that players would die. But they worked together as a team to save them. But, they have resulted in 3 henchman/npc deaths. Vital story NPC's.

      All the 1500+ articles I created on World Anvil are private. Unfortunately, I can only have 20 members of that campaign world. I add my players to the world and use roles to assign articles to them. As for my maps and some articles, I do make them available for free on my Patreon to download and use in your campaign.

      Wow that would take hours! But I think in all the video's I have created so far do cover many articles. Not word for word but the layout. I do plan to cover more video's on my version of the Temple of Elemental Evil campaign. The next video will probably be about the 1st mission, getting the players together. Then video on 3 or 4 character's backgrounds and how they all meet in the city of Verbobonc. In this way I can try to get these video's down to less than 30 minutes.

    25 sessions at 6 hours to get 3 levels?!?

    • @3orcs
      @3orcs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Traditional D&D we all been playing for 40 years takes about 6 sessions to get to 2nd level. Maybe 4 session to level 3. then 3 to 4 session each level after that. Depending how much RPing they do in town and travel. The higher level they get the more exp the monsters is worth. WOTC 5e isn't D&D but I know there is no effort leveling in that game.

      Love the extensive detail development you made for your campaign. I’ve been working on a similar path, retconning the modules for 2e with Player Options, plus some home brew additions.
      I made Lareth a fallen Paladin from Valune (makes sense given his ability scores), seduced by Lolth to betray the army of good, and charged to act as an inside man for her in the temple to gauge Iuz’s current interest. Lareth earned his way into the temple by betraying the prince and offering him up for sacrifice during the battle years ago. The army of good lost most of their higher commanders during that betrayal, thus they are hesitant to get involved again. It is thus up to the party to take on this new challenge.
