I'm a professional singer and I've worn a historical corset almost every day for the past two years, and it actually helps with the singing! It creates pressure against your diaphragm, which helps to build muscles around the diaphragm, leading to better breath control. Thank you for making this very important video! P.S. Your voice is stunning!
Wow, thank you for doing this! First: because I really miss live music. Second: because you have a gorgeous voice. Third: because certain myths about breathing need to be busted-I was doing my evening stroll a few months ago and heard someone singing an aria - it was a soprano, riding a bicycle, uphill, wearing a MASK- and I could still hear her over the sound of cars at least 100 feet away!
@@PocketFullofPoseys Thank you so much, your beautiful singing today has lifted my mood. It "turned my frown upside down." It also made me remember my old Siamese cat, Miss Pussyfoot, who loved to listen and watch women singing arias on the television show Classic Arts Showcase, and she also loved Annie Lennox videos. She lived to the ripe old age of 20. She would have loved watching this video of yours.
It was so fun to hear someone sing the aria you sang in your Regency stays. About 10 years ago my voice teacher had me sing that song and I have always loved it. I too, can not wait until theater opens back up again. That was what my husband and I used to do on our overnight dates away from the kids. We would attend a broadway show, have a nice dinner, go antiquing, and stay in a B&B. I miss it so much.
So many of us shout this: custom-made corsets are remarkably comfortable! :) This was a delight, from the accompanist to the plan to the execution, plus all the pretty clothes and songs. Thank you for the treat!
i know im randomly asking but does someone know of a method to get back into an instagram account..? I was stupid forgot my login password. I would love any tricks you can give me
@Dominik Shepherd i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process now. Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
My sucky day just massively improved with the small amount of singing I heard from you. You've got a beautiful voice, and today it fed my soul something it was missing ❤️❤️ Great experiment too, thank you!
OMG, girl! That voice!!! It was so lovely to hear you sing. I hope you put up a video of the full songs, I'm sure we would all love to hear them!! And it was incredibly interesting about the corsets being unexpectedly backwards. I would assume also, that the regency would be the most comfortable! Like, a historical sports bra.... lol
Genius idea. Well done. Loved it. Any chance you can be persuaded to do some Purcell? Such as Dido’s lament? Complete with stabbing of course! Loved the green outfit the most. Stunning.
Thank you! 😀 Now I need to research clothing from Purcell's time. I've actually never sung Dido's Lament, but it is a beautiful aria, so I'm not opposed to learning it sometime.
The last outfit you wore was amazing! That style of bodice and skirt really flattered you. You have an amazing voice too. I hope we can hear more, maybe while sewing? Thanks so much for this video. All of the information was valuable.
I personally find it much easier to sing on corsetry. That’s for two reasons- 1, I’m disabled and I need that back support to sit upright (though it is more difficult to sing well while sitting, I don’t have a choice) and 2. I feel it gives me something to press against for better breath support. It makes it easier to remember to engage my core as soon as I’ve pulled on the breath, as it’s a constant reminder against my stomach muscles. And engaging my core is easier because I’m more upright, and because I’ve got something to press against. So even if I just want to have a bit of a budgie in my room, I usually put a corset on first.
Wow! Your voice is amazing. Would love to hear more singing in future videos. I get similiar reactions about making a corset (I work on a respiratory ward at the hospital). Thanks for doing some myth busting.
First: Those earrings you are wearing are so gorgeous! You have a truly wonderful voice! I so would love to hear you sing an aria from start to finish! This was such an amazing video!
👏👏👏👏BRAVO! BRAVO! ENCORE!👏👏👏👏 singing is one of life's greatest joys. My voice is good; not the caliber of yours. I love singing and I love listening to singing. This was a great experiment!
Ahh!!! I've thought of doing this exact video on my own channel for a while now! So glad to see others who have both a love of dress and music history! By the way your singing is lovely!
Absolutely beautiful, I am so envious of your singing voice. I would love to hear you sing more in your videos. Incidentally, I am one of those theatre people who lost their jobs - hopefully temporarily - I work as a dresser and also do laundry on touring shows; plus I ran the costume hire department in our theatre. I'm not sure when that part of the job will start up again, but I am hoping to get back to working on shows from May/June. Fingers crossed.
What a lovely experiment, and WOW what a beautiful singing voice you have! I remember putting some opera singers into stays for Figaro in college. They were all very uncertain until they actually tried them on, and most really loved them!
Have you tried a curved busk in your regency stays? I don't have the flattest stomach and I find it makes my stays fit a lot better and makes them more comfortable and supportive in the bust area.
What is happening to me I am really enjoying the singing and the piano music today when normally I would remove my hearing aids. My taste is expanding horns and percussion instruments are still number one in my heart but I have come to appreciate string instruments played by the Polish MozART group now you are adding piano and opera! What's left 👍👍👍👍👍👍🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖😘💕🤭🤔🤹🙋🏼♀️ oops I like Brendan's Boogie Woogy piano music how does that count in my transformation? I give up on this device I spell a word and it inserts another. Have a great day
This was very interesting, thank you! I sing (not professionally) and have sung with a not-made-for-me fully boned overbust "gothic" corset. That was not fun. I mean I could do it, but I felt super restricted. One day, I will make my own, and feel much better in it!

Excellent! You're welcome!
Will there be a "director's cut" with the full arias? :)
Yes! I plan on releasing it on Monday. 🙂

I love you in that victorian outfit!
Thank you!
You have a lovely voice. It is such a pleasure to hear you sing. And the corsets looked good too.
Thank you!
Queen of the night’s aria from the magic flute in full stays!!!!
😆 I'm not a coloratura, so no Queen of the Night for me!
Thank you for this. Off-topic, the green Victorian bodice is so gorgeous.
Thank you! The color really does look lovely under the lights.
Goodness. What an incredible voice you have. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.

Thank you! I sing sometimes when I'm sewing, but it usually just ends up mumbled singing nonsense if I start concentrating hard on what I'm sewing. 😆

Hello! I find singing in a corset is almost easier because you have something to push against to breathe from the diaphragm.
I find that useful too. 🙂
That was lovely! Thank you for doing this video. I found it searching the corsetryinmotion tag. I miss singing.
Thank you! Welcome!
You have a beautiful voice and obviously you can breath
Thank you! Yes, I can!

I'm loving your earrings in the speaking parts and also your 1860's ensemble. Is this the one you will be starting next week?
Thank you! My earrings are from Dames a la Mode and my green and black costume is actually 1890's because I hadn't made my 1860's costume yet! 😆

Yes, I tried singing in a ready made corset too years ago and it was uncomfortable.
