@@jeffcrocker1078 When Michael was about to record the Speaking In Melodies album his plan was to have Jeff Porcaro. Unfortunately it was around the time when Jeff passed. With short notice he had Per Lindvall and 2 other Swedish musicians flown in to the sessions. The procucer says in the liner notes that at one time Michael and the Swedish guys began to jam. Everyone who heard it rushed to the studio to see who were playing! They said it was swinging like crazy! From what i've heard Jeff barley did solos and neither does Per so the comparison is quite fair i say.
Jeff porcaro was and is my fav sat behind him in a club many times saw Per with Michael ruff same club he’s the closest to Jeff of anybody relaxed unique feel and especially on record there’s a sound when he hits the drum so relaxed he looks bored and the sticks look like he’s hardly holding them
Michael, I've been a fan since the early 80's. Used to go to My Place to hear you and Snuffy every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and Sunday nights. I'm the one who got you the gig to play in the Olympic Villages in 1984! Still love your music you play at your church in Hawaii, praising God, and thankng Him for His Gift of your talent. I miss you. PS. I'm still friends with Snuffy! Cynthia Emmets
Kul, kommer ihåg när jag såg detta på TV. I programserien "Moment" sändes även en konsert med Hawk on Flight från Liseberg, det är den konserten Michael Ruff syftar på när han säger "Did you see him last night?". Du råkar inte ha den också? Har letat efter den...
Can anyone tell me the correct spelling of the guitar players names? They did an excellent job as did Michael Ruff and the entire band. I’m 61 year old guitar player and back in the 80s I used to play at a club in Santa Monica that Michael Ruff used to play at. I think the band I was playing in opened for him if i remember correctly. It was sometime probably around 1983-1985? But it could have been 86/87. I have the record still of the songs he’s singing in this concert. My memory of the name of the club was either Yankee Doodles but I think they changed the name to At My Place but it’s been too many years. At the time, I think Mike Landau was playing guitar for Michael Ruff and I think a young Sheryl Crowe was singing background vocals. Vonda Shepard from Rickie Lee Jones band used to perform there as well. It was an amazing time and Michael Ruff was just an extremely talented and unique and phenomenal singer songwriter/keyboard player. His harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic sense were simply amazing. I have wondered what became of him and through your video I’m sensing that maybe he moved to Europe and continues to perform there? I moved to Europe from 1989-91 and lost touch with what happened to some of the musical acts I enjoyed since it was pre internet. Anyway, thanks for posting this video. Sorry for my lengthy comment, it just brought many nice musical and other life memories back for me. If you know the names of the guitar players please write back. I heard him say something like Pat Holven Scholl 6 minute 30 seconds into the video but I’m not sure if I’m spelling his name correctly, then also on Rolf Fiardmark? Is that correct?
I, too, saw Michael Ruff in Santa Monica at At My Place. Most of the shows I saw had Ralph Humpfrys on drums, Jimmy Johnson on bass and Snuffy Walden on guitar. I lost track of him after moving to the Bay Area, but a friend saw him at the Baked Potato about 20 yrs ago. He became born again and is now living in Hawaii.
Right back to my late teens! Awsome!
