Rick produces people and those people produce the music.

One time I asked Rick, "How do you get such great sounding vocals?" He said, "I just show up." The simplicity of his answer kinda miffed me; but he was being sincere at the same time. Ugh!

It's cool to hear Rick talking about that creative process, because when I create something for the sake of the creation itself and with no bonds holding me back I can go far and beyond, but when I create for the sake of a masterpiece or to hit a pre determined target I simply get stuck. I have always thought about that, but have never heard anyone talking openly about it.

Rick been around for decades....I remember seeing his name on album covers back in the 80's & 90's wondering who he was.

He doesn't do the slight4st twisting of a knob he has engineers who know their shit. But he's a very Zen-like dude who encourages artists to explore different territories. Like Phil Jackson of music. I guess he charges a ton for his time. Which makes the artist more money cause his name is synonymous with good shit

Can Rick talk about NOT using reverb? Rick doesn't like it; but, so many classic vocals that we know and love use reverb. Does no reverb require a super-good mic with total noise reduction/no noise? Why no reverb?

i was reading his wiki page and it says he just prefer a more "naked" type of production, with no backing vocals, strings session or reverb its just his style of production i guess

He said at one point he like it because it’s the most natural you can get. He compared it to “someone singing straight to your face”.

Is there any Rubin-produced album that doesn't totally abuse limiting/compression? I find it very hard to listen to, say, La Futura, because everything is pushed into the foreground and the music has zero room to breathe like it should.
