Thanks for listening to my prayers, Yeedeed 😁 And sorry for spamming and infiltrating your metal reactions 😉 The main reason for suggesting Marillion was the fact that you dig BOTH Metal AND a-ha....and Marillion fits in perfectly in the overlap. At least they do for me. I hope this song inspires you to react to more of their songs...I promise that you are in for quite an amazing journey. Rock on Yeedeed - love your channel and your devotion to listening genuinely to new songs and actually taking your time to pay attention to all the details. It's a treat 😎👍

Hey my man, thank you for the comment and the suggestion, AND thanks for the studio version! Don't get me wrong, you can request anything on any video I post, metal or not, just was a surprise it wasn't metal due to that lol. Yes, I appreciate ALL subgenres of rock music from extreme metal to the softest most indie sounding music, as long as it sounds good. And Marillion sure sounds good.

      Welcome to Marillion...
      My Suggestions:
Neverland, This Strange Engine, Go, The Sky above the Rain, Out of this World, The leavers, Gaza, Estonia, Montreal, King...
They are so good, especially live.
      Give them a try.

They were my first musical love back in my youth, listening to them for over 30 years now.
There is a huuuuge discography to delve into.
Their studio versions are pretty good, but the live shots so much better. Steve Hogarth (or simply "H.") is a true bard and the performances are absolutely amazing.

Great band with one of the most criminally underrated guitarists. Fun fact about Marillion - they pretty much invented crowdfunding all the way back in 1997. They couldn't afford a North American tour so fans raised $60,000 to make it happen. It was such a success that the band decided to fund their next album by having fans buy it before it was made and 12,000 of them did. Each one had their name listed in the liner notes. So loyal are Marillion fans that they've done annual fan conventions for the past 20 years. I've always wanted to go to one. They have one of the best fan bases in music. It has allowed them to be completely independent and still successful enough to sell out Royal Albert Hall.

I was cleaning out some crap from my basement last month and found an old entertainment section from the Chicago Tribune that I had saved. I couldn't figure out the relevance until I looked below the fold and there was the article about the tour fund. I had seen the show in Chicago for that tour and was a part of the freaks list, which is where it all started. Got my MarillionRochester double CD and my name in Anoraknophobia. Living now in Rochester, Montreal is only 5ish hours away. I've been to two conventions so far, I'm hoping we get through this Covid border issue before the next one. It's a great time and a great city. Do all you can to get to one, you won't regret it.

And to think you’re hearing the tuned down version with a very weathered voice in Hogarth. Now imagine hearing this in its proper key when his voice and Range were much stronger and higher. Not to take away from this performance as it was beautiful. But Hogarth in his prime in the early 90s was also something to behold.

Basically, the only music I listen to is Marillion. I'm a huge fan of progressive rock but after awhile, the other bands seem to pale next to this band. You will inevitably find yourself thrown into one of the most virulent "new lead singer" debates that has ever raged on the internet. Given your many comments about this singer, Steve Hogarth, having such a wonderful voice, you may have a hard time understanding (I know I do) the commenters who will eventually arrive here to tell you to go back to the '80's and listen to "the real Marillion" when Fish was the front man. Like with most people, the music of their teenage years and their twenties became the love of their life that they can never forget, and never accept any sort of substitute, or ever concede something better has ever come along. Maybe, just maybe, the music from the Fish ear comes close to being a cross between punk and classic symphonic prog, but for the Hogarth era, I don't think that description is at all accurate. The band itself has for decades tried to resist being cubbyholed into any sub-genre, but are probably best placed within the symphonic prog category.
There are bunches of guys who grew up listening to early Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, Camel and other progenitors of progressive rock, then came of age and formed their own prog bands in the '80's and '90's. Prog was horribly out of fashion in the pop music world by then, and most of these bands labored for years, even decades, in obscurity. Marillion was actually one of the more famous ones, with several hit singles during the Fish era. Other tremendous bands you've probably never heard of are IQ, Jadis, The Flower Kings, and Porcupine Tree. Zero radio play in the USA. In the case of Marillion, a huge swath of fans stopped following the band when Fish quit to go solo. The rest of the world had given Marillion a listen with Fish singing, didn't like it, and could not be dragged back to give the new guy, Hogarth, a chance. Record companies were unhappy with Marillion for not following orders to produce radio singles. The band had more integrity than that, and eventually discarded record labels for crowdfunding as a source of revenue. So, with Fish out on his own, the band trying to make complex and layered music not really suitable for radio play, and no record label money to promote them, Marillion became the best band in the world that hardly anybody has heard of.
Personally, I think Hogarth is the best pop singer in the world, any genre, with the possible exception of that petite lady fronting Nightwish, so make him the best male pop singer. Give Fish a listen if you feel like it, but plan on going to see Marillion in Montreal for the 2022 convention. These guys aren't spring chickens, and missing them live will feel like missing the Beatles if you fail to go.

Respectfully, I have 968 videos uploaded over three years of reacting. I have received in this time maybe three comments out of tens of thousands who have said what you said. So if you feel that way, that's fine, but I stand by what I said to you almost 3 years ago: That the overwhelming majority of people watch reaction videos for the reaction and commentary, NOT to hear songs uninterrupted. If you want to do that, you can listen to the songs themselves, or yes, watch other reactors who react that way. To me, if a reactor is doing reactions like that, it shows me they're not engaged in what they're listening to and to me that is a bit lazy to react that way.
