- WE STAYED IN A SCOTTISH FAIRYTALE CASTLE IN THE HIGHLANDS// Happy Friday, Today we're finally sharing the Scottish Castle where Joerg and I stayed at in the Highlands. Barcaldine Castle is 400 years old and is a luxury Bed & Breakfast with only 6 rooms which makes it a wonderful place to stay. We booked the room 'Caithness' for us which is on the top floor with amazing views towards Loch Creran. A wonderful base to explore the Highlands and a very short drive to Oban. We LOVE how many fairytales castles there are in Scotland!
We also visited Inveraray Castle, home to the Duke of Argyll and we loved it so much. Should you be a huge fan of Downton Abbey, you will recognise this castle straight away as it starred as Duneagle Castle in one of the amazing Christmas specials ('A Journey to the Highlands'). We are so happy we went as we weren't sure if it was too busy but it wasn't at all. We can so recommend it. Kirsten & Joerg

Most beautiful video…Inveraray Castle is stunning…loved the William Morris wallpaper,the china display…what a wonderful place to film…turret room in the accommodation castle was charming, drone footage amazing,it is nice to see the food displayed in the dining areas ..all look so yummy & inviting 💗🙂

This has been one of my favorite trips next to Jane Austen and Mapperton...I feel like "we" have been to so many stunningly beautiful places...Thank -You for showing us the lovely, magical castles and lochs...it simply takes my breath away..all I kept saying to myself was WOW, how beautiful!!...once again a wonderful treat..you two are just so kind for sharing your adventures with us!! Hello Kirsten and Joerg well I'm lost for words with this one ! Absolutely stunning scenery and what a beautiful place to stay , I loved it . The drone filming was really amazing Joerg is very good at it . I don't want to go over the top here but your filming is brilliant and your choice of music was so fitting for Scotland ...well done . Joerg makes me laugh so much , he is so funny . He is always ready for a nibble of something to eat and a drop of drink . I love the idea that you do some walking then you can eat cake !! Why did I not think of that ? Perhaps I could just have a walk around the block then eat more cake 😂😂 Enjoy the rest of your stay and love to you both xx ❤️
Awww thanks so much! Hahah yes, we walked so so much in Scotland to do a lot of filming so had a good excuse for cake. We came home last weekend, I wish I could edit videos while travelling but it takes me 2 whole days for one video so I always have to wait until we're home again. Have a nice weekend.

I think you are the perfect hosts for sightseeing and travel programmes...SO clever too, to make such beautiful videos sometimes from the air. I love the journeys with you, textures, sounds, colours, mountains, gushing rivers, castles cottages and sheep. Joerg is gorgeous as are you, watching and sharing feels like sitting in front of the burning wood fire. You're my favourite 'nature programme'. How lovely you are able to travel. My maternal Grandfather John Border Grandison, was born and raised in Glasglow, Scotland in the 1900s. He immigrated to Canada with his siblings one by one in the middle 1920s.
I do so wish I could visit but my age and travel restrictions prevent. So Thank you for sharing a most lovely part of my ancestry homeland.Stay Safe🏰🌷

Lovely to see my home country where I haven't lived for 23 years! Inverary Castle lovely went there over 30 years ago. I loved the china room. You should watch the Outlander series. And yes I will be watching Downton Abbey again. When I was there I met the previous Duke and Duchess on horseback when in the gardens.

Rhododendrons grow wild in the Smoky (Appalachian) Mountains. I have one, which is actually three, at my front door. It grew to 11+ ft tall last year, covering the entryway way from the street, so it got a radical trimming, down to about 1 meter. We did that just after it bloomed last year and it was covered in blooms again this year. It will be 6ft plus by the end of next year. There is one mountain about 35-40 minutes from my home called Roan Mountain and the entire mountain is covered in Rhododendron, They grow wild on the surrounding mountains, as well, but those mountains are a mix of the Rhododendron and hardwood trees.
The castles were all lovely'. Thank you for giving us a glimpse. The China display is arranged in a cabinet very similar to the White House in the states. The walls are covered with those cabinets in the White House, but it goes through quite a bit more changes in the states. They change the pattern every 4-8 years and after 250 years, there is quite a bit of china.
Scotland is one of the last greatest wilderness left in the UK

In the summer of 1988, for our honeymoon, we drove from Germany up through England and Scotland, staying at hotels along the way. We stayed in John O'Groats one night and were amazed at the fact it was still not dark at 11 p.m.! We took lots of photos and has such a wonderful time. Thank you for helping me walk down memory lane today.
Oh yes, the further north you go to the UK, the longer you you will have daylight in summer.

@@scotsquine7870 The first castle was built by Sir Duncan Campbell but the Castle shown in this video is the second castle built. The Third Duke rehoused the locals in a new village as he needed the land to expand and build his new castle the castle we see in this video. So yes the original first castle was built by Sir Duncan but not the actual castle in the video. So yes I suppose you are both right in a way.
Makes me want to rewatch that episode of Downton Abbey. Gorgeous!

@@KirstenJoerg I've been married for twenty...where have the years gone? LOL My ancestors were of Germanic descent, and left for Pennsylvania in 1693 seeking religious freedom. Sadly, none of us speak one word of German. But I was in Frankford, Germany on my way to Athens, Greece and wish that I had a chance to see more during that stay.

Coincidentally, I was in London a couple of weekends ago, and in Tavistock Square Gardens, Bloomsbury, stumbled upon a film set. I could see Claire Foy dressed in 50s clothes, and it turned out to be 'A Very British Scandal' (from the same people who did 'A Very English Scandal'), and is the story of Margaret, Duchess of Argyll, whose husband's ancestral home was Inverary Castle. Won't say too much, as details not suitable for a family audience, but it was a divorce scandal at the time, involving a notorious 'Headless Man' photo. Apparently Paul Bettany will play the Duke.
