Honestly there are some days when i think you are one of the only stylists on you tube that knows how to talk about color in a practical way. There are a few others but few and far between. And so many younger women on TH-cam that wear all the wrong colors and/or suggest everyone wear the same palette
This is such a useful video! My hair used to be dark brown and my skin has always been pale but I just can't give up my navy even though I'm now low-contrast with my silver hair! ❤
Interesting information. One of your prior videos (I don’t remember which one) convinced me to give up highlights and just go with my natural dark hair - my skin looks so much brighter with this change
I can’t wait to hear more color tips. Color choices really affect how I appear and feel ❤ I’m in the autumn/spring colors depending on how light or dark my hair is. I learned how hair color is a strong indicator for choosing colors from you ❤
Thank you very much dear Nada! Very interesting topic, I am exited to know more about colors. There is so much talk about colors and -types on YT and I personally never quite get it. So all I manage is navi 🤭 a color which suits everybody.
Loved all of this video, Nada! Thank you! I could never find a camel trench coat that looked good on me. Something was always off with them. I found a navy one and it looked fabulous! Scored a London Fig trench for $10.00 in a thrift shop! Keep on keepin' on!
I would love more information about best makeups for color types please! You are a wealth of practical knowledge, Nada and I appreciate you sharing it with us!
WOW so I recently picked up this vintage Doncaster lightweight wool suit for a song - fits me like a glove and I feel great in it - I notice people actually treat me better when I wear it - smile at me, better customer service, etc.....only thing is, it is not a "pretty" color - it's sort of a strange greenish brown - AND I HAVE HAZEL EYES - this video made it make sense....I love the suit so much I like to "dress it down" with sneakers so I can wear it more....THANK YOU Nada for helping me undertand why my "strange" color suit "suits" me so well!!
Great info! Additional note- some golden , strawberry blondes do not grey but turn ivory white which is very flattering and luminous against their warm skintones and fantastic wearing that haircolor somewhere in every outfit. I especially like to wear shoes with ivory or creme soles.
Excellent guidance on color - this video is a Master class. I think people get too caught up in color seasons, etc when really you just need to follow the guidelines you laid out - thank you for this!😊
yes🎉🎉 As a fair haired blue eyed with spring coloring I wear cobalt and bright blues that don’t have gray or black in them. i really can’t wear dark navy near my face but i’m trying to work in navy pants that i wear with my brighter blue sweaters for a tonal look🎉
Another fantastic, comprehensive and wise video from the best stylist on YT, thank you so much lovely Nada! Best wishes from London to you and all your viewers
I wish I could wear camel, beige, tan, even ivory. Anything with a yellow undertone looks terrible on me. As I’ve started to grey, rich jewel-tones are my friend. Navy, burgundy, dark purple, and the right shade of green paired with white, black and grey pretty much makes up my closet. From your advice, I just bought a lovely handbag in grey that I think I’ll be using for years.
This is a great video! I think color theory is often overlooked when trying to follow trends. I’m high contrast with a warm undertone so the commonly seen neutral such as light beige/tan etc. make me look ill, however when I wear heavily saturated colors, I look my best. Regarding old money aesthetic, I think the old money color suggestions we see trending are based on white Americans only, not world wide old money aesthetic. Eg old money Asians and East Indians do not wear neutrals, they wear their traditional clothing which consists of warm bright red, yellows and gold, Lots of gold! It compliments them well because their skin tone is olive. In the UK, Queen Elizabeth rarely wore typical neutrals, and she’s old money, she had a very colorful wardrobe, but her colors were muted and mostly pastels because muted colors complimented her skin tone. You look absolutely stunning in bright colors!
I'm fair & I used to wear light, soft colors because I thought it made me look less pale. Wrong. It washed me out. Now I wear med-deep shades & it looks better. As long as the colors aren't too muddy or grey, I don't really have to worry too much about that. Chestnut/caramel brown & olive green are my best neutrals since they're so close to my hair & eye color. I color my grey because it doesn't look salt & pepper, it looks like I have white paint in my hair 😢 & really stands out against the natura warm tones. If I ever go fully white, I might try a golden tawny blonde but generally I prefer my hair a little darker for contrast.
I am not sure I agree with your tips. I have brown hair and eyes and I avoid shades of brown as much as possible. It makes me look like mud. My skin looks lifeless and dead in it. Black and gray look fine. I think to stand in the sunlight and put on the clothes in certain colors in front of a mirror. Does your skin look radiant or does it look washed out? Yellow tones make me look ashen. Brown makes me look dull and almost dirty. Royal blue and bright purple erase all those shadows and make me glow. You don’t even have to pay someone to drape you. If you pay attention, you will see it.
I agree with pulling colours from your eye colour, however I have brown hair with natural golden highlights and cannot wear brown as it muddies my skin and makes me look dull. I agree it works for some but it's not a standard rule
I totally agree with your comment. Having had auburn/red now silver grey hair, with blue eyes and fair skin, I avoid, like the plague, low contrast greys and pale camel/peaches/pink etc or colours which mirror my colouring. They makes me look utterly washed out. Instead I wear mostly fairly strong colours and blues of all shades against a base of navy and sometimes black and feel confident and vibrant in those. To me, it’s about how we feel and therefore what gives us confidence and happiness in our own skin. As you say…. look in a mirror and be objective! Enjoy your own style😊
@@Caprichic1 exactly! If you go by the classic color typing (which I know is controversial) people with dark hair and eyes are more likely to be cool toned.
I have brown eyes and hair and having worked in the fashion business my whole life most of my clothes were black. Then one day I bought a gorgeous brown outfit and was surprised it looked better on me. It has to be a warm, chocolate brown, not ashy colder hue. Now I wear a lot of brown and especially love silk and charmeuse.
As a natural blond my whole life with fair skin, I can assure you the LAST THING we do is add more drab light neutrals such as beige, white or even light grays. We 100% need strong color around us.
I agree. I have a camel-colored cardigan, and I do not feel lit up in it. I do not like gray at all! If I need white, I'm transitioning to more of a cream instead. Color brightens me up and I feel better in color.
I agree. With my white hair and cool undertones I need the contrast of mid blue, teal green and cherry red. I look drab in light grey and washed out in beige or pastels.
brilliant! love how you used the high contrast black and white sweater on Jennifer Aniston as an example of what does not work. I am a spring with low contrast and high contrast stripes look terrible on me 😂
Another informative video! I'm a former strawberry blonde with warm ivory skin but at 55 I'm going gray and my skin is now neutral. I think Im soft contrast bec my gray is mostly mixed with dark auburn.
In my experience red spots in the face look even more terrible if I wear something in green. Because if the complementary colors seeing a green shirt the eye is searching for the complementary color, red, thus the red areas or spots are emphasized. For the other tips in the video I agree.
I have had my colors done professionally twice and I have vivid blue-green eyes. My coloring however is very warm. Pastels and almost all blues are terrible with my warmth. Blue comes off so cool in tone and detracts. I look so much better in a warm orange, terracotta, many greens… but blues… no way.
Your tips metallic shoes are helpful. Question : does the tone of the shoes matter much? For example, being blonde, should I go with gold-tone shoes or can silver work just as well ?
It's really important to view in-between colours in natural light, for example I bought a velvet Khaki blazer that looked more brown online and in artificial light, but was actually very green. I pay a lot of attention to whether a colour (e.g. grey) is warm or cool. When considering a pattern I scrunch up my eyes to get a better idea of the predominant colour. Metallic gold can look like camel from a distance and metallic silver like a pale grey, which may not be the best colours for you. I always stick to the 2 or 3-colour "rule", which I learnt from childhood, I don't wear the rainbow, it would look too busy and messy, I follow this "rule" in the garden and in interior design too, less is more imo. Red/dark lipsticks - be careful if you don't have nice teeth, I stick to nudes, sometimes with a bit of sheen, and they don't have to cost a lot, I bought mine from Primark in the UK and they feel and look great, only £3!
This went so fast for me that I’m going to have to listen a few more times. So much information that my head is swirling. What if you really don’t like the colors that are best for you? I just can’t wear orange, brown, the fall colors. I don’t have them in my home. I find them depressing and not happy. I will wear brown on the bottom. I find the colors I’m wearing really affect my mood.
personally, if I put a color on that makes me feel depressed, I usually will never go for it again. I have blonde hair; light warm skin coloring and I have discovered surprisingly I feel lit up in some gold colors.
A highly intelligent analysis of all things colour related. Such a pity that it was delivered at such lightning speed that it became a headache to follow , let alone take notes. Sorry, mebbe just my problem.
@@pmw3839 black skinned women usually into either the deep or clear categories. Many of them have high contrast because of the color of the whites of their eyes compared to the dark of their eyes, and the saturation of their coloring means they can wear dark as well as bright colors and white beautifully.
Now I know why I’m dissatisfied with my hair color after last salon visit. It’s the contrast! It’s muted instead of bright blonde highlights and dark red lowlights and light brown roots. My bright jewel tone winter colors won’t work 😢
I know. I have used this stylist for years, and she seems to forget what shade of red and blonde I like. She has offered to add some lighter blonde highlights at no charge to me. But I’m rethinking and maybe keep this color. I did get compliments. One friend said that I looked adorable. When you’re 81, you take all of the “adorables” you can get 😂 Thanks for sharing
@@susanhoward2305 I had the same issue with my hairdresser this time. Blond highlights and I came home with a drab soft beige color. I thought I had died. She aged me twenty years. I’ve given her about six chances to get it right. I even gave her the formula my hairdresser in Los Angeles used for years. I’ve had it with her. I’ve been looking for another stylist good with short curly hair and coloring. I think I found one. I have nothing to lose now. Wouldn’t you think that knowing what colors look best on her client would be part of the training?

I am trying to decide whether to lean heavily into chocolate brown and wine because I can find them this year or stick to Black as my main nuetral.
