- In this art video tutorial, I guide you through the process of creating a spread in my large Art Journal. Working on both watercolor paper and canvas, I demonstrate how to use stencil and spray inks to produce intricate patterns, complemented by ink drawing for added definition. The botanical stencil lends a natural touch, while the abstract canvas piece brings depth and contrast to the spread. Join me as I explore mixed media techniques, offering insights and tips along the way to inspire your own creative journey.

I love how the swirl stamp looks like raindrop ripples in a water, and the pen lines just perfected the leaf stencil page. Gorgeous spread.
So glad you loved it! Thank you! 🥰
“This is gonna be a ‘what if’ kinda day”! I think we should have t shirts made! 😂 It’s my new daily mantra!❤
I totally need that t-shirt too!! Haha! Thank you! 🥰
Denise, I keep wanting to tell you how beautiful I find your complete channel layout, from the close-up looks both at the beginning and the end to the pleasant and emotive music selections you make. Morning tea time with your art is the favorite part of my day. Oh, and I love today's art as well!
You’ve really made my day! You’re the best. Thank you! 🥰🥰🥰
I think the rings are very effective and reminds me of a rain puddle with the ripples reflection of trees and light ,wanna get your boots on and jump in it . 😂
Oooh! It does look like puddles! I love that. Thank you! 🥰
“Fugitive” paint. I like that!😊
😁
Love what you did with the stencil! Simple but beautiful! Your foam stamp was a pleasant surprise on your other page. Very cool!
That was a fun stamp! Thank you! 🥰
The imperfect stamp reminds me of a window that was in my grandma's home. It looked like it was made of the bottoms of amber bottles, all melded into circles. ❤
It does look like that old glass!! Thank you! 🥰
I loved todays double spread. When you began the video showing the finished pages, I thought....there's no way you drew the stem and leaves and so wanted to see you complete that page. OH MY GOODNESS, it totally works together with the other page. Fabulous, once again DL.❤❤❤
It definitely worked out better than I imagined!! So glad you love it too. Thank you! 🥰
@@2lilowlsstudio yes to LOVE!!!
Wow, Denise, I love how both of these two turned out! I love the idea of using stamps to REMOVE paint, too! So many things to try. And I love how that "stencil" is more of a mask, leaving the leaves open, and just painting around. I love what you did with it with the outlines and dots. Beautiful!
So glad you loved this one. It’s one of my favorite! Thank you! 🥰
I love when you do the coordinating pages‼️. This one’s gonna be great cause it’s greeeeeeeeen💚💚💚💚
Thank you! 🥰
Love both pages, especially the one with the water ripples on a sidewalk puddle effect
Thank you! 🥰
Nice!!! I really like the leave stencil and outlining the leaves with dots really made it pop. Love it thanks Denise 😊❤
Thanks so much 😊
🎉Brilliant 👏 the print effect is so Great . Another way to do print. 👍🏼
Thanks so much 😊
Hi Denise. The stamp made me think of tree rings when you cut a branch. We all see different things - 😀
Oooh! Tree rings!! It does. I love that. Thank you! 🥰
Cool paint day Denise, Love them both.
Thank you! 🥰
What a spread! Wish it was in my art journal! 😁 LOVE it. I love the lined frame. GOOD idea! Thanks for the inspiration.:)
So glad you loved it!! Thank you! 🥰
Todays art pages are fantastic. The stenciled page is marvelous. If I were to do this, Denise, I'd see it as a big mess and failure; HOWEVER, when you create these pages, they truly are works of art. TFS ❤
So glad you loved it!! Thank you! 🥰
The circle stamp added so much depth to the canvas piece. The stamp has so many possibilities. The leaves were fun to watch dry. The color started green then looked gold then brownish. It was like autumn in drying paint.
They worked out better than I thought they would! So glad you enjoyed it!! Thank you! 🥰
Love this Denise. ❤ I was so hoping you would flip the wet stencil over ontop of the other one and see what the reverse print would look like with the touches of color added. Lol. Love when you added the ink leaves and dots in. Beautiful!
I really need to work in my own art journal every time I watch you. It is just this kind of thinking that you inspire. Watching what you do and then getting our own sparks of ‘what would I try’. Thank you always! 😊
So glad you get some new inspiration from these!! Thank you! 🥰
Love it thanks Denise! ♥
So glad!l you loved it! Thank you! 🥰
I love the ink on the stencil page! Turned out so cool! So enjoy your work!!😍😍😍😍
That worked out much better than I thought it would! Thank you! 🥰
Love that you use alternative media. I love discovering stuff. Like I accidentally discovered that latex house paint won’t wash out of textiles. Now I use it all the time in place of those tiny bottles of textile paint. Love this page. Not my favorite colors usually, but you’ve won me over.
I ended up liking this page way more than I thought I would. Latex paint is a great choice - I agree… doesn’t come out of fabric… as we learned the hard way! 😂. Thank you! 🥰
Wonderful creativity!
Thank you! 🥰
The stamp is a keeper. It really added interest to the canvass page. Your line work on the other page brought definition . Love how delicate it looks. Another fun video to start my day off. Have a great paint day, Denise! 🤗🤗🤗
That stamp was super fun! I liked it - first time I used it! Thank you! 🥰
Thanks Denise 💕🎨 The black ink around the leaves tied into the other page.
Thank you! 🥰
Great job !
Thank you! 🥰
How cool is that!
Thank you! 🥰
I like how each spread "belongs"
I love that too!! Thank you! 🥰
Oooh great outcome! Love the effect of the foam stamp! I went to order the Froyle script stamp from them the other week and sadly had to put it back out of my basket as they charge a flat rate postage and USD $25 for one foam stamp was too much. I still want it lol but will wait to win lotto when I won’t care about postage costs 😂😂😂
Oh goodness. That is a lot in shipping!! So glad you loved this! Thank you! 🥰
I made an old
hardback into an art book ny removing sections of paper. I had painted the cover several years back, but what my friends & I had thought about didn't happen. I really like the cover & decided I should just jump in doing collage & multimedia. While I think I'm going to be able to get something started after this one basic question (thanks to your bravery with trying new things!). I love doing abstracts with watercolor, but I'm concerned about the paper absorbing too much of the watery paints, or getting to thick & stiff from the protective layers. I plan to use the type almost like asemic writing - it there & it's seen, but there's no special meaning to it. Anyhow, how might you suggest getting started to protect the paper? Matte medium, gesso, or what, as a base coat? Thank you for you help here.☺️
Thank you, Denise, I truly enjoy your positive attitude & willingness to try things. This will be my very first art journal that was born for art & mystery. Lol! I don't know what I might put in there!
I use old books too for journals. I paint the old pages with clear Gesso and let it dry. Then you are good to go to paint and write on! Hope that helps. Thank you! 🥰🥰🥰
19:33 Look about 5cm above where your pen tip is, and you have a super detailed painting of half a man’s face. Then I’d you look in the top right hand side, you can see a detailed part of a woman’s face looking out of the page at you, with her right eye 😱 It amazes how often detailed faces appear in art. Really makes me wonder if art is a window between us & the spirit world?
Fun! I’ll have to go look! 😁
🇨🇦❤️🌸🌞
Thank you! 🥰
